Review of Hilton

Great hotel 5*

This is a really good hotel and just the place you want to stay before/after going on a trip. The hotel is linked directly into the airport so you can walk from reception straight into South Terminal which is so convenient. Even better if you can check your bags in the night before and have a leisurley breakfast at the hotel before walking through to the airport.

The rooms are large and comfortable with big fluffy dressing gowns, slippers and lots of nice toiletries (including a single Gilette disposable razor and a little rubber duck!). The buffet breakfast is fantastic, as good as any other Hilton buffet breakfast. If you are flying, it is definitely preferable to have breakfast at the hotel rather than on the plane!!

Brilliant customer service, very comfortable rooms, nice toiletries, convenient for flight check-in as you can walk through to the terminal - who could ask for more!

Review of Pinks

Pinks is perfect! 5*

I love this salon - it's pink, fluffy and the best thing is that the staff are all brilliant and the prices are very reasonable. They use Cetuem products which are very high quality, all natural (and generally quite expensive if you were to buy them from a specialist shop).

I've had loads of different treatments here and have felt totally pampered every time, no matter how big or small the treatment. Definitely recommend this salon.

Review of Pizza Express

24 Apr 08, 14:10

One of the best Pizza Express restaurants! 5*

Pizza Express is a brilliant restaurant - I love their menu and the style of the kitchen being on show so you can see them making your food. I also like the fact they refresh their menu quite often so it doesn't get boring and there are new things to choose on the menu.

The starters are lovely, everyone knows their famous dough balls and garlic butter starter! They recently took the "savoury breads" side dish off the menu which was disappointing as it was a brilliant side dish, so tasty and perfect to share. The mains are good too, lovely thin base pizza with tasty topping. Their new "Roman" base pizzas have much bigger, thinner and crispier bases and are great if you are really hungry - you can now "upgrade" any standard pizza to "Roman" for £1 extra which offers more choice. Deserts are fab too now they have added to their menu.

I like this particular branch because the service is brilliant, staff are very friendly and the food seems to be nicer here (more generous portions, hotter, fresher). It is also in a really nice location and if you are really lucky you can nab a seat outside in the summer. It gets very busy on weekends and Friday nights so get there early, try to book a table or expect to wait for a table.

Review of Babinondas Restaurant

22 Apr 08, 13:13

Best sheftalia in London (apart from my gran's)! 4*

Everyone who has eaten here has raved about this place and now I know why. Met some friends there late one night and was feeling bit hungry and their food looked really nice so decided to eat there too. The food was really good and proof as to why people keep saying how brilliant it is. The portions are big and the sheftalia are probably the best I've eaten outside of Cyprus with the exception of the home-made ones my grandmother makes (the best sheftalia in Cyprus are from Vlachos Tavern in Larnaca). Definitely worth a visit, a really nice place to go with friends.

Review of Chiquito

Long wait for average food 2*

Every time I've been here the experience has always been different. The first time I ate there the service was brilliant but every time after it's only been average and sometimes quite poor.

I haven't had to wait for a table but the service to order and time waiting for the food to be brought to the table, cleared away, etc. has always (bar my first visit) been far too long to wait. Even when the restaurant has been quiet mid-week for lunch I've had to wait a really long time for food.

I also find that the food is never consistent - sometimes it is ok and sometimes it is bad. By bad I mean burnt or very cold or oily. Because I never know what kind of meal I will get here I don't go here anymore except when invited by friends and even then I usually try to excuse myself.

Review of Abbey

Fantastic customer service and advice 5*

This branch of Abbey is brilliant - staff are always very polite and helpful and I feel that I've always been given good advice by staff there. I was also very happily surprised that when I enquired about a product the company had been pushing through TV advertising and internet ads the staff told me this was not really suitable for me and pointed me in the direction of other more suitable products but no pressure to sign up for anything. They are also very security / ID cautious here which is brilliant. It's a shame the online banking isn't as reliable as this branch.

Review of Royal Air Force Museum London

20 Apr 08, 19:56

Great for kids and adults alike 5*

This is a brilliant museum and with free entry it makes a non-expensive day out for a family. It isn't just a boys day out, I found all the planes and information about where the planes have fought really interesting. Kids will love it as they have steps up into some of the planes so they can actually get into the planes, sit in them and see the controls. It is also worth checking their events calendar so you can go there and catch an air display and see the planes in action.

Review of The Officers Club

Staff could be more helpful 3*

I find it really difficult to buy gifts for guys but when I do have to, I look in this shop as it will give me some ideas. I've only given it 3 stars as the clothes are sometimes a bit over the top or just not enough "plain" or "safe" clothes to buy someone as a gift. Also only 3 stars as I feel the staff aren't always helpful, a lot of the time they are chatting away and don't seem interested in helping customers. Worth a look as you can sometimes find really nice clothes in there and there are bargains to be had in this shop.

Review of Krispy Kreme

20 Apr 08, 16:57

Drive thru Krispy Kreme.... 3*

This is a Krispy Kreme restaurant and drive thru which is open until about 2am for all your Krispy Kreme needs! If you "sit-in" you can see the huge machinery that makes these indulgent donuts and see quite roughly how they are made.

At night the car park is full of youngsters who get their drive thru donuts and park up with friends to eat them. If you go for "drive-thru" late at night and lose to closing, they may give you some extra complimentary donuts that haven't sold that day as they make and sell them all fresh on this premises daily.

Nice to "drive-thru" if you are in the area, but not worth a special visit now that Tesco stocks these donuts and they are easily available elsewhere.

Review of The London Transport Museum

20 Apr 08, 16:44

Step on the tube of years gone by... 4*

This is a nice little museum and great for kids as they get to see old buses, tube carriages and even "drive" a tube train in a simulator. I must admit I found the old tube carriage really creapy - it is so old, the floors are wooden, there are dummies in period costumes and no windows making it feel so claustrophobic (at the time these trains were built, as the trains were underground and there was nothing to see they didn't build windows but later realised that people needed the windows even if there was nothing to see to make it feel less calustrophobic - see you learn stuff at this museum!).

I loved the old tube poster art, it was so interesting seeing how different interests of the time influenced the posters. It is also interesting to see the old tube maps, how the lines have developed over time and even learn the story behind how we got the tube map in the format we see it in today - I'm not telling, you have to go to the museum to find out!!

It is a small museum and not somewhere you could spend a whole day but it is still worth a visit. The gift shop is nice, lots of London Transport branded products. The more interesting things to buy there, if these are your thing, are the underground poetry books and tube posters. I didn't go to the cafe, but you can get to the cafe from the street and eat there without visiting the museum.
