Cheesy Chips 4*

Found this place out of boredom really. fancied a different venue from the Vine without going too far.

Friendly and relaxed unless they have a party booked as the DJ's tend to bring far too big a sound sytem for the room.

They don't ave a minimum spend on a debit card either which although only a little thing is actualy a great help since the nearest cash machine is over at the Grafton.

Review of Pizza Express

American Hot Please! 4*

Most Pizza Express restaurant's are quiet modern, lots of glass and pine, Cambridge being a class apart does things slightly different. some people say its a Roman styling (not to be confused with the Mcdonalds.) Whatever it is it's very grand with pillars and paintings all giving it a different atmosphere from the usual Pizza Express.

It's a Pizza Express with the ever excellent Dough Balls which are never the same when you buy them from Sainsburys and of course my "usual" of the American Hot

Review of Life

It's now The Place 5*

£500k later and Life/Twenty Two is no more.

The carpet you stuck to like fly paper is gone

The awful lights and tatty seats are gone as well

New Dj's, nights and staff with a fresh outlook add to the new decor, plush booths and new lighting and sound system make The Place now Cambridge's premier nightspot

Seriously!!!!

No more queing up in the smelly alleyway, the entrance is off Sydney St and once inside its all very new and very stylish. You can see where the money has gone!

Weekends are always rammed so get there early

Recommended and I never though I'd say that about Life!

Review of The Penny Ferry

Great summer location 4*

Can't think of a better summer drinking location, right on the Cam with views of green, green and more green. It is almost like being out in the country. Aside from the odd train rumbling past further down the river it's very quiet and as rowing boats dont make much noise very tranquil. This might change on a Saturday as the location is directly across the river from Cambridge Utd. You would be able to hear every cheer from the beer garden, which is a good or bad thing depending on your opinion of the beautiful game!

Loads of tables outside and from what I saw family friendly with space for the kids.

Odd choice of music being piped around the pub though, in an hour I heard Harri Krishner music and the Lighthouse Family mixed in with some Bhangra?

Review of The Boathouse

Nice location, service could be better 2*

Very large riverside pub in Cambridge. Right on the Cam with a huge four level terrace makes this ideal for a drink if the weathers nice.

Word of warning though, for some bizzare reason they dont have table food service if you sit inside. Instead you're given a buzzer that vibrates when your food is ready, which you then have to trudge back in and collect yourself. Hardly classy service and lost a few points there.

Shame as its great in the summer with views over Jesus Green

Proper burger 4*

Gotta love this place. London chain invades Cambridge to put the others in the shade!

Great freshly cooked burgers, from surf and turf to something spicy or traditional. Sizeable slabs of Angus cooked up quickly and very recommended

Review of Starbucks

Wifi access 3*

What can you say about a Starbucks? They're all the same the world over but this one has comfy chairs and internet access for my Iphone. Convinient when shopping and during the summer you can if you're lucky grab a table outside and watch the world go by.

Review of The Vine Bar & Kitchen

Classy 4*

Nice bar, popular "after work" drinking hole. gets very busy on a Friday night so book a table in advance or just bar-hang.

Terrace area is comfortable during the summer and the food is quickly served and of a high standard.

My "not so" Local 3*

Worth making the effort to visit. bit off the city track but the friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere make it worthwhile.

Try Wednesday steak night as well!

OK for sports on TV but only if it's a game not broadcast on Sky as they've only got freeview.
