Review of Little Italy

Over priced 2*

Some people might see this run down restaurant as charming, I see it as over priced and shabby. The service is very attentive but they need to compensate for the poor quality food and surroundings. Located right next to the traffic lights in Moseley it’s hardly picaresque and the pizzas are £12 + which is outrageous when you could get something of much better quality from pizza express. I’m all for independent places but this is just low rent.

Good selection, good location. 4*

This is a good little shop offering a good selection of beers, wines and spirits. They also sell chocolate. The location is handy due to it's proximity to La Fibule which is bring your own booze.

Bacon Butties! 4*

A little local bakers they offer a variety of freshly baked bread, including soda bread and they also do breakfast baps on the weekend which is great if you're feeling too hungover to cook something up yourself! The cake selection is a little uninspiring though.

A great village resource! 4*

What a fantastic arey of ingredients! It's a lovely little shop which is nice to browse around or handy if you are looking for something specific. it's not that easy to find things though so I recommend you ask behind the counter.

Review of Evergreen

Greasy 2*

This is the only takeaway on the main Moseley High Street so it's convenient but it's a bit greasy. I think you will be disappointed.

Review of China Garden Buffet Restaurant

Now Rejoice of Spice 2*

This is now an indian restaurant and I must admit I've not been, however I felt the need to review as it has changed it's name about four times in the short time I have lived in the area (about 2 yrs) the chins garden was good but they have stedily declined in quality since then so I won't be risking this!

Proper Chips! 3*

As the evil french fry becomes ever present in our chip shops it is reasuring to have a local chippy that provides me with a proper greasy chip. Good value at 60p for a cone of chips, just enough after a night on the town.

Review of La Plancha

23 Apr 08, 17:00

Nice place! 4*

This is a really nice restaurant, I would agree that it's a little expensive, you won't feel stuffed unless you really splash out but it's got a lot of character and charm. If you are booking in advance I recommed you try to get the table in the window upstairs, the central location of the restaurant means that you can people watch the whole of Moseley!

Review of Village Inn

23 Apr 08, 16:55

lacking in atmosphere 2*

The Village is only really good if you want to watch the sport. Otherwise it's lacking in atmosphere. It's part of a chain to expect drinks selection / decor akin to wetherspoons, it's not as dirty as that but still not luxury!

Review of Covered Wagon

Worth a trip! 3*

This pub is a bit off the beaten track but it's a nice place. There's plenty of parking and it's big inside. If you are tired of having to queue at the busy bars in Moseley this is a welcome alternative.

Review of Prince Of Wales

23 Apr 08, 16:52

Old man pub 3*

The Prince of Wales is the most traditional pub in Moseley Village, where as the others are modernised or chain bars this has an old school charm about it. Prices are old school too. Front bar, back lounge and a large beer garden at the back with lots of picnic tables.

Review of Wetherspoon

23 Apr 08, 16:06

Budget 1*

Weatherspoons is the lowest of the low. They are all the same and they are all gross, they are the MacDonald’s of the pub world. It’s cheap and you get what you pay for. The coffee is horrible, the food is horrible and the drinks selection is poor. They are smelly and badly decorated, the atmosphere is dirty and threatening. Stay away.

Review of The Jade Chinese Restaurant

22 Apr 08, 12:59

Cheap but not cheerful 2*

I think their main trade is from takeaway, I've certainly never seen many people in here and you can understand why, the feel is more like grimey canteen than luxurious restaurant. I think there is an all you can eat deal on in the week (made to order not buffet) but the food isn't great so I don't think you'd manage much!

Review of The Junction

21 Apr 08, 16:14

Lacking in atmosphere 2*

The junction has been recently refurbished (previously drift) and despite a lot of work being done it's not changed that much. Neutral uninspiring decor, bland and dated 'ibiza chillout' muzak it really lacks in atmosphere. It advertises 'real music, real ale, real people, real late' but I think it's missed the mark.

Review of Cross Cafe Bar

16 Apr 08, 11:45

Posers welcome 3*

The Cross is a step up from other local boozers the junction, weatherspoons and o'neils. There is lots of seating and a good menu but it's quite expensive and it's a bit posey. They've not given much thought to the music. Late Licence.

Review of Lafibule Moroccan Restaurant

15 Apr 08, 15:01

Something a bit different 4*

If you're fed up of the usual indian, italian or chinese try this Moroccan restaurant out. It's got an authentic theme to the decor and it's just the right size, not to big not too small. There is a good choice of mains and starters the food isn't as spicy as indian or chinese but it's still very tasty. It's bring your own booze which is always a bonus. The dessert menu is a little lacking, the 'morrocan pastries' used to be genuine baklava but they are now a bit rubbish. Service is ok. I was given a finger bowl as I had ordered prawns and the water was straight out the kettle and I burned my fingers so watch out! Apart from that, a good choice.

Review of Goose At The Fighting Cocks

15 Apr 08, 14:53

Popular place 4*

The Fighting Cocks is probably the nicest pub in Moseley, but as a result it's the busiest so be prepared for long waits at the bar and limited seating or even standing room. However it is worth it, the decor is lovely, the selection of drinks is excellent, both soft and alcholic with everything from smoothies to strawberry beer. The beer garden is a triumph, quite big with just as much attention paid to the outside furnature and decor as to the inside. There is a covered shed that is heated so it's possible to sit outside in even the chilliest conditions. They do offer food but this can be a bit more hit and miss, I've had a bad roast / risotto but their ploughmans was the best I've ever had. So approach the menu with caution. Overall a good night out.

Review of Patrick Cavanagh

15 Apr 08, 14:42

Lovely Local 4*

A really good pub, with something for everyone, a good beer garden, good selection of drinks, good menu, jukebox, open fire, live sport, quiz nights, live music. The front bar is usually busiest and the back bar is a coffee shop by day with a lovely old fashioned cake counter. There is a function room upstairs that is a good party venue.

Review of Sabai - Sabai

15 Apr 08, 14:34

The Best Restaurant in Birmingham! 5*

This is my favourite restaurant in the city. I love thai food so have sampled lots of it in various restaurants and this is the best I've tasted. It's teeny tiny so I would recommend that you book in advance. The decor is a little odd with a large graffiti style mural on the wall but the atmosphere is great as it's intimate and candle lit. My recommendation is garlic and pepper mussels followed by king prawn red curry (the king prawns are HUGE) service is friendly.
