Review of Chocolate Soup

29 Apr 08, 10:45

AMAZING! 5*

I have a very sweet tooth and chocolate soup is a match for even the most hardcore chocoholic. The hot chocolate isn't made from second rate powder, oh no! huge vats of molten chocolate are spooned into generous mugs and mixed with hot milk. It is the best hot chocolate I have ever had. They offer a range of toppings from traditional marshmallows to aero pieces and cookies. I am just disappointed it's not a chain so I can't get them in Birmingham. Although that's probably a good thing, I'd be the size of a house!

Review of Fudge Kitchen

THE BEST FUDGE IN THE WORLD 5*

OMG! I love this fuge, I first tried it at the BCC good food show, fell in love but there isn't a shop in Birmingham (probably for the best) so when I visited edinbugh I made a beeline for this place. There is a great range of flavours and you can watch demonstations of them making it. It is fiendishly expensive but well worth it. If you don't live near one of their shops (they are dotted around the country) you can order it online and it is freezable.

Review of Dragonfly

16 Apr 08, 16:35

Nice Bar 4*

Dragonfly was a good little find, when we were there it was really quiet so no queuing and comfy seating. There is an extensive cocktail menu and it was nicely decorated. Slightly odd quirky was a selection of about 30 different pairs of trainers, unworn and with their boxes displayed above the bar.

Review of The Mussel & Steak Bar

16 Apr 08, 16:33

Good grub 3*

Mussels and Steak does exactly what is says on the tin and it was fabulous. I love mussels and they were delicious. For about £10 you get a huge pan of them. I had the chilli / coriander marinade. The décor was a bit odd, more like a posh gym that a restaurant, lots of beech coloured wood and blue fabric (we sat upstairs) and it’s quite brightly lit. They even had a plasma screen showing films about fishing and glassmaking! The food was good though!

Review of Point Hotel

16 Apr 08, 16:32

Fab! 5*

The point is a really fabulous hotel! Akin to malmaison in style, space and quality but much better value. We stayed there between Christmas and New Year and got a great deal. Our room was huge, the bed was huge the TV was huge and the huge window looked out over the castle. We ate in the restaurant and drank in the hotel bar, both of which were of a high standard. The bar was quite expensive but the cocktails were very good. Only tiny criticism is that it was very dark, even with the lights on it’s very dim, romantic but hard to apply makeup!
