Review of Fox and Duck

bring your own food 4*

Broomhill is not short on places to grab a bite at lunchtime, but the Fox and Duck allows you to bring your own food, so if you're just looking for somewher to eat your lunch away from the desk or somewhere to avoid the local school kids at lunchtimes. This is perfect they even provide plates and with several sandwich shops and a boots across the road your not hard pushed to find food to take with you (plus you get the added bonus of having apint with your lunch. Plenty of old locals to make it feel like a propre pub as well. In the evenings there's plenty of atmosphere and they often have gigs on by local bands- not dominated by students either!!

Review of Weston Park Museum

Child friendly but still fun for adults 4*

Weston Park Museum used to be dark, dusty and boring, the ducks in the pond were always more intersting than a visit to the museum, but this old school trip nightmare has been totally renivated and revived, with interesting areas dedicated to the history of the city as well as british history in general and natural history. I'm amazed how much they have manged to fit into the building as is the way with all museums now it's very interactive and hands on with costumes to try on and an art cart, but it's laid out beautifully and has plenty to keep adults informed and entertained. It still in corporates the MAppin Art Gallery and has the weather station and wasps nest. definately worth a visit for locals and visitors.

Review of Bessemer Gallery

contemporary craft at affordable prices 4*

Don't let the name scare you, it's not a gallery it's a shop, but the items they sell are beautiful, not just scarves and bags but interesting artwork, ceramics, glassware and jewellry that's gorgeous and wearable, perfect for interesting one of a kind presents and all tucked away in a corner of the winter gardens.

Review of S W Williamson & Son

From Cake tin to washing lines 4*

Williamsons Hardware Broomhill is an instituiton and rightly so, they balance the demands of the local residents well providing the necessities for the students who flock there every september and the local "normal" residents, who need somewhere to pick up a cake tin, a washing line pole or just a novelty mug. Prices are on the cheaper side, the staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and on the off chance that they don't have what you want (chances are slim) they'll point you in the right direction. Sheffield is not short of department stores or DIY stores, so there is a very good reason that this indepent is still open all these years after opening.

Review of John Lewis

Old Fashioned Customer Service 4*

John Lewis is well known for it's customer service and often comes top of polls for this my experience has been varied, the Lingerie department at the Sheffield store, is notorious for the one place you'll be guaranteed to be ignored (and the cold hands of the bra fitters!) the Fashion Fabrics department on the other hand is BRILLIANT - excellent friendly staff, who offer old fashioned customer service backed by knowledge and expertise.
