Review of Loftus Road Stadium
25 May 08, 14:51
Could be great again
I have some bad memories of this place - probably as we always used to get a hard game here! Really compact stadium that produces a great atmosphere when it gets going. Easy walk from the nearby Central Line station and also good if you want to see some international football that doesn't involve England!

Review of West Ham United Football Club
25 May 08, 14:46
Much improved
Upton Park's a million miles from what it was like 10 years ago and the muchis (rightly) made of the three local players who helped England to triump in the 1966 World Cup. Generally the home crowd create a good atmosphere so expect to sing your guts out to compete but they have their fickle moments here so go 2 up early on and you'll often see them turn on their own team or manager.

Review of Picknics Take Away Food Shops

The original Subway
Good sandwich shop with plenty on offer to go between a bread roll. Reasonably priced and very popular with people working in Weymouth town centre. Only down side is you can't get anywhere near it by car.

Review of River Island Clothing Co
21 May 08, 10:47
Nothing special
Too many tshirts and tops ruined by having stupid graffiti style writing on them. Don't know who buys them as I never see anyone wearing them! This River Island doesn't have a bad selection but there are similar stores within easy walking distance which are probably a better bet.

Review of TK Maxx
21 May 08, 10:38
Maxx attack
Pretty much the only thing that's keeping the Quadrant going at the moment. Like all TK Maxxs it's fine as long as you're prepared to put in some time rifling through the racks of stuff! If you don't find what you're looking for on the cheap here there are at least plenty of other clothes stores nearby where you can find it full price!

Review of Arsenal Station
21 May 08, 10:31
Iconic
Only tube station to be named after a football club and still holding up under the extra pressure of the increased capacity of the new stadium. Wish they'd kept that mural on the wall that went up to mark the last season at Highbury. Obviously avoid it on matchdays if you're going to the game!

Variable
Had a good time here on Tuesday but then with £1.50 drinks I'm sure you'd have a good time anywhere! Felt like a place that's full of wannabe gangsters but at least there are plenty of alternatives closeby if you decide it's not for you.

Review of Coriander Mexican Restaurant
21 May 08, 09:58
Crayola Mexico
Really enjoyed this place. Really good fajitas, staff who could talk knowledgably about the menu and offered good banter. Love the idea of putting a blank bit of A4 paper instead of a place mat and leaving a pot of crayons for you to draw with while your food's being cooked. Nice touch.

Review of Office Shoes
18 May 08, 14:57
A shoe in
Smaller than a lot of other Office stores but a good selection nonetheless and within easy walking didtance of other shoe shops if you're weighing up alternatives. All the big brands but they don't do half sizes here so your feet will need to conform to a size!

Review of HMV
18 May 08, 14:54
slicker than your average
Better than most hmvs on the basis it's not staffed exclusively by emos who won't help you unless they approve of your musical taste and who will offer to order stuff if you can't find what you're looking for. Not as cheap as websites like cdwow but the best place for cds and dvds in Bournemouth.

Review of Vue
16 May 08, 17:11
Not bad but NOT cheap
Good cinema, great location close to Angel tube and the shops in the N1 centre but how on earth can they justify the prices? Even the student rate is extortionate! They do at least make buying the tickets easy with self service machines.

Review of The White Swan
15 May 08, 12:01
100% surprise free
It's a Wetherspoons. You know how it goes - cheap beer close to its sell by date, good value food that appears within 20 minutes of paying for it and generally pretty souless in the middle of the day. I'm giving this one 3 stars though because it's so much better than the Angel and Glassworks which are both down the road and are both pretty rubbish. Also close to Hi&I station.

Review of Cafe Azan
15 May 08, 11:57
Pre match bite
You can only imagine the effect having 60,000 extra people walking up and down this road has had on local businesses. This is one of the best cafes in the local area - good selection of Sandwiches, coffees etc and within a stones throw of both the Arsenal stadium and Holloway road tube.

Review of The Victoria
12 May 08, 17:01
This is a local pub for local people!
Nothing wrong with the Vic but I've always got the feeling that if you don't play for one of their sports teams you aren't seen as being worthy by some of the people that drink in there - might just be me though! Otherwise a good pub - beer garden, poole table, good telly for sports.

Review of Taste
12 May 08, 16:57
Always busy
Formerly Paninis, Taste is a good bet for some lunch if you're out shopping. Does a good range of baguettes and salads as well as a good coffee that won't burn a hole in your pocket. Not much parking nearby but you might grab a spot for an hour on High West Street if you're lucky.

Review of M W Adams
11 May 08, 19:51
School days
Good selection of pick n mix, all your papers etc but crucially has a little parking section out the front so you can quickly stop off. Has withstood the challenge of Spar/Nisa down the years so they're clearly doing something right.

Review of Marks & Spencer
08 May 08, 21:00
Can I get through here?
One of the smaller branches of Marks and Sparks but you'll find everything you'd expect, if on a slightly reduced scale. As always there's a good selection of high quality food if you don't fancy the drive out to Tesco to do your shopping. The store also acts as an easy way to get from South Street to Trinity Street.

Review of Goulds
08 May 08, 20:57
Dying breed
There's something nostalgic about Goulds. One of what feels like the last of the independent town department stores. The two shops stock everything from clothes to home furnishings and you'll generally get good customer service. Plenty of parking in Charles Street so you won't have too far to carry any purchases.

Review of JJB Sports

up up and away
Well located up an escalator to give it maximum floor space this is the biggest sports store in Cardiff. You'll find all the usual football, rugby shirts and trainers here, as well as kit for cricket, tennis and hockey. For the patriotic customer there's plenty of official Welsh gear as well.

Review of City University

Variable
Has a great reputation as 'The University for the Professions' and the journalism department is excellent. In terms of informing its students about things like exam/lecture times though City is not great.

Review of The Steam Passage

Does a job
Big pub, plenty of seating, drinks not too expensive and the last time I was there they were doing two for one on food. Not one of the chic-est places around by any stretch but does a job.

Review of The Agricultural

Winter warmth
I really like this place when the weather's cold - warm, cosy and servs real ale, but I don't think I've ever set foot in it during the summer. Not too expensive but again there are better places very close by.

Review of Flares

Night fever night fever...
All your seventies classics but one of the stickiest dancefloors in Cardiff! If you have some John Travolta type fantasy to live out and are refusing to consider psychiatric help then this is the place to come!

Review of The Gatekeeper

Pre Game
Only ever went here before games at the Millenium Stadium but a great atmoshpere on those days and everything you'd normally expect from a Wetherspoons. Cheap, cheerful and drunken!

Review of Varsity

Standard!
Got chucked out of this place for falling asleep on one of the tables but won't hold that against them. Lots of good drinks deals, decent food and as student friendly as they come.

Review of Yatess Public House
28 Apr 08, 08:43
No surprises
Like Wetherspoons you know where you stand with Yates. Well located near to other bars if you're planning to make a real night of it but they are frequently guilty of having the music on so loud you can't talk to anyone. Otherwise a staple part of the Saturday night pub crawl.

Review of Swan Inn

Always busy
You know where you stand with Wetherspoons. This one is really well located if you're planning a crawl through Weymouth and comes with everything you'd expect from this chain. Good beer garden which comes in handy in the summer.

Review of Poet Laureate
28 Apr 08, 08:29
A royal appointment
'Prince Charles' Pub' is exactly what you'd expect. You won't find a pool table and certainly not a fruit machine but you will find good food and drinks that aren't cheap. The Poet does a really good quiz though which isn't ridiculously difficult and doesn't drag on too long like a lot of pub quizzes do. Worth a look.

Review of Forecast Fashion Shops
25 Apr 08, 21:57
Sunshine and Showers
Really variable. You'll either walk out with half the shop or wonder why you bothered in the first place. Takes full advantage of being the only shop of its kind in Dorchester by adding another £5-10 on top of what you'll pay for the same items elsewhere but does have some nice stuff.

Where to matey?
Good taxi firm this - get you there with the minimum of fuss and without burning a hole in your wallet. Normally have drivers with good banter as well.

Review of Royal Oak
17 Apr 08, 14:10
Can't go wrong
Revitalised since it was taken over by JD Wetherspoon The Royal Oak is one of the most popular venues in Dorchester. Incorporating a good beer garden it has all the usual attributes of a Wetherspoon pub and is conveniently located close to a bus stop.
