Review of Sports Gear Weymouth

Good customer service
My first ever pair of football boots came from here some 16 years ago. I forget the name of the guy who runs this place but I know he's a nice bloke who looks after his customers which is borne out by the fact this place has withstood challenges from JJB and All Sports down the years.

Review of Best Flowers
12 May 08, 17:04
Closest to hospital
The closest florist in Dorchester to the County Hospital which, on paper, is convenient if they hadn't banned flowers in some of their wards! Good florist with friendly staff who'll talk you through what's what if you're clearly struggling!

Review of The Victoria
12 May 08, 17:01
This is a local pub for local people!
Nothing wrong with the Vic but I've always got the feeling that if you don't play for one of their sports teams you aren't seen as being worthy by some of the people that drink in there - might just be me though! Otherwise a good pub - beer garden, poole table, good telly for sports.

Review of Taste
12 May 08, 16:57
Always busy
Formerly Paninis, Taste is a good bet for some lunch if you're out shopping. Does a good range of baguettes and salads as well as a good coffee that won't burn a hole in your pocket. Not much parking nearby but you might grab a spot for an hour on High West Street if you're lucky.

School days
Good selection of pick n mix, all your papers etc but crucially has a little parking section out the front so you can quickly stop off. Has withstood the challenge of Spar/Nisa down the years so they're clearly doing something right.

Review of Rajpoot Tandoori Restaurant

Tolerant
Can never decide if I prefer this place to The Spice Centre but this place probably edges it because they're more tolerant of big groups who are pissed. Surely the hall mark of a good curry house?!

Review of Stuart Turners

Old school
I love this place. When I was 16 I went through a phase of smoking cigars (misguidedly thinking that looked good). The guy that runs this place would always offer great banter about this whenever I went in. That and a great selection of chocolate etc gets this place a good rating!

Review of Waitrose
11 May 08, 19:41
Location location location
I'm told this branch of Waitrose is the 5th most profitable of all John Lewis' food stores. Whether that's based on the fact its not one of their biggest or the relatively affluent clientele I'm not sure but it's certainly well located in the town centre and an hour and a halfs car parking is free if you buy something here.

Review of Jaeger Man

Touch of class
Dorchester is crying out for more shops like this, and given the increasingly affluent Poundbury population here I'm surprised more haven't materialised. Good choice of good quality shirts, suits and ties both classic and contemporary with excellent customer service.

Review of JJB Sports
11 May 08, 19:35
Could do better
Must be relieved that All Sports (which was just over the road) is no more. Not a lot of choice here and I'm sure they could make better use of the floor space to get more in. I often wonder whether the people at JJB do their research... how many Spain away shirts do they think people require in Dorchester. Also, I don't support Portsmouth, Southampton or AFC Bournemouth but the fact you can't buy their shirts in the biggest sporting chain store within an hour's drive is pretty poor in my book.

Review of Marks & Spencer
08 May 08, 21:00
Can I get through here?
One of the smaller branches of Marks and Sparks but you'll find everything you'd expect, if on a slightly reduced scale. As always there's a good selection of high quality food if you don't fancy the drive out to Tesco to do your shopping. The store also acts as an easy way to get from South Street to Trinity Street.

Review of Goulds
08 May 08, 20:57
Dying breed
There's something nostalgic about Goulds. One of what feels like the last of the independent town department stores. The two shops stock everything from clothes to home furnishings and you'll generally get good customer service. Plenty of parking in Charles Street so you won't have too far to carry any purchases.

Review of Dorchester Health Club

Drop and give me 20!
Gary Easter who runs this place is a top bloke. Friendly, supportive and always ready to offer help and advice but not overbearing in the way some gym people are. Everything you need for a good work out in a nice, tucked away setting and reasonably priced as well.

Review of Forecast Fashion Shops
25 Apr 08, 21:57
Sunshine and Showers
Really variable. You'll either walk out with half the shop or wonder why you bothered in the first place. Takes full advantage of being the only shop of its kind in Dorchester by adding another £5-10 on top of what you'll pay for the same items elsewhere but does have some nice stuff.

Review of A Line Taxis

Where to matey?
Good taxi firm this - get you there with the minimum of fuss and without burning a hole in your wallet. Normally have drivers with good banter as well.

Review of Bob's Cars
25 Apr 08, 21:49
Better look elsewhere
Bob's Cars are the most expensive taxi firm in Dorchester. While I've never met any of their staff who've been anything less than polite the figure on the metre at the end of the journey means I always avoid them. You'll find much better value at the other taxi firms on Trinity Street.

Review of Change Of Seen

Something different every time
A real find. Kathy Kilburn's shop is genuinely intriguing and has something to offer everyone. You'll be hard pressed to find another shop with such a collection of original gifts in Dorset, never mind Dorchester.

Review of Plaza 1 & 2
22 Apr 08, 21:06
Lights, camera...
Despite increased local competition from Weymouth Cineworld The Plaza has continued to remain competitive both in its ticket prices and the selection of films on offer. The fact that local people continue to support the Plaza is great news for Dorchester, and is also testament to the friendly service from its staff.

Review of Gentz Barber Shop
22 Apr 08, 21:01
Something for the weekend?
If you're looking for a shap hair cut that won't scalp your wallet Gentz is the place. Tammi and all the girls are chatty and friendly and are brilliant at remembering who you are and dispensing banter and great hair cuts in equal measure. Highly recommended.

Review of Grassby Funeral Services

Proven quality
A traditional, family run business, Grassby Funeral Services have long been established as the local leader in their field. Customers will find a sensitive staff who are never anything less than polite, professional and completely understanding.

Review of Sienna Restaurant
17 Apr 08, 14:42
Touch of class
Small, intimate and most importantly unmatched for the quality of its food. Sienna is not cheap but the variety of dishes on offer and the friendly, welcoming service on offer from Russell and Eleana makes this a great venue for special nights out.

Review of Potters Cafe Bistro

Hidden Gem
Pound for pound one of the best value places to eat in Dorchester. Great food, always of a high quality and friendly service. Do a cracking hot chocolate and loads of good cakes. Highly recommended.

Review of Station Master's House
17 Apr 08, 14:25
All's rosy in the garden
Boasting the best beer garden in Dorchester The Station is the ideal venue for a few warm up pints before jumping on the train to Bournemouth. There's no shortage of big screens or tv channels either, making it a great place to watch live sport.

Review of Royal Oak
17 Apr 08, 14:10
Can't go wrong
Revitalised since it was taken over by JD Wetherspoon The Royal Oak is one of the most popular venues in Dorchester. Incorporating a good beer garden it has all the usual attributes of a Wetherspoon pub and is conveniently located close to a bus stop.
