Good country pub
Good pub food here and the staff are always very friendly and welcoming. There's a good choice of old school ales and it's well located if walking in the countryside is your thing. Only thing that lets this place down is how LONG their pub quiz goes on for!

Review of The Gunners

Who's that team we call the Arsenal...
Prefer the 12 Pins in Finsbury Park myself but if you want a pre-match pint and to surround yourself with Arsenal stash on the walls then this is the place for you. You can also hire out the elevated level which I think is a good bit of business on the pub's part. Many a happy afternoons/evenings drinking done in here.

Review of The Woodbine
16 May 08, 17:14
Changing times
This was one of my favourite pre-match pubs when the Arsenal were still playing at the old stadium. Since the move around the corner the Woodbine's clearly decided to try and broaden its market a bit and has done a good job, although it is very dark in here now. Still pop in here just not before games so much anymore.

Review of The White Swan

100% surprise free
It's a Wetherspoons. You know how it goes - cheap beer close to its sell by date, good value food that appears within 20 minutes of paying for it and generally pretty souless in the middle of the day. I'm giving this one 3 stars though because it's so much better than the Angel and Glassworks which are both down the road and are both pretty rubbish. Also close to Hi&I station.

Review of The Angel

No silver spoon(s)
You'd think the Wetherspoons in Angel would try to up their game a bit given the standard of competition they face but it appears that's not the case. Only good thing to be said for this one is it's pretty much right opposite the tube station so you don't have far to go if you've got to get away.

Review of Walkabout Inn

Walkonout
No sooner set foot in here on an away day up north and there are two rugby league meat heads going for each other and glasses flying everywhere. Walkabouts are rarely cultural meccas but this is the worst one I've been to. Surely better places to go... like away from Wigan.

Review of George It's A Scream

Not so mellow yellow
Another pub that's great if you're a student (with a yellow card) and probably not so great if you're not. All the usual things that you love about scream pubs (ie the burgers and some good drinks deals!) and great if you're looking to go drinking withyour football/rugby team and be tolerated!

Review of The Victoria

This is a local pub for local people!
Nothing wrong with the Vic but I've always got the feeling that if you don't play for one of their sports teams you aren't seen as being worthy by some of the people that drink in there - might just be me though! Otherwise a good pub - beer garden, poole table, good telly for sports.

Review of The Steam Passage

Does a job
Big pub, plenty of seating, drinks not too expensive and the last time I was there they were doing two for one on food. Not one of the chic-est places around by any stretch but does a job.

Winter warmth
I really like this place when the weather's cold - warm, cosy and servs real ale, but I don't think I've ever set foot in it during the summer. Not too expensive but again there are better places very close by.

Review of The Glass Works

Not great
It's a Wetherspoons, upstairs in a shopping centre. Not great but at least you know what you'll find on the menu. It's not so bad you'd never go there but with so many better places so close by you'd need a pretty good reason. One for when money's tight towards the end of the month.

Wednesday at Gassys yeh?
Great for students on a Wednesday night. If you've just started at Cardiff or UWIC and aren't quite sure what's what yet then join a sports team , make sure you can see off a pint to a stopwatch and get yourself here on a Wednesday night. Also does good food and has a big screen for sport.

Pre Game
Only ever went here before games at the Millenium Stadium but a great atmoshpere on those days and everything you'd normally expect from a Wetherspoons. Cheap, cheerful and drunken!

Standard!
Got chucked out of this place for falling asleep on one of the tables but won't hold that against them. Lots of good drinks deals, decent food and as student friendly as they come.

Review of Henry's Bar

Top notch
A great place to start a night out with a few cocktails and also does good food. Not cheap but if you're a student you can cash in on some good offers midweek and even if you're not still a great place to go on a night out.

Review of Dorothy Inn

An institution
Ah, Dorothys! Sadly recently shorn of its 24 licence but an institution in West Dorset and has an unfair reputation of being a bit rough. Friendly staff and a general all round good watering hole.

Tickled pink
Really like the Tickled Hippy. Good selection of drinks, friendly staff, often have good live music and a venue that will please all tastes. Right on the beach, it is definitely worth a visit.

Review of Baracuda Bar

A good bet
Formerly the Rectory, Baracuda is definitely worth a visit. Good selection of drinks and food and plenty of tv screens to watch live sport. A 'snout' loyalty card also lets you cash in on some special offers and will only cost you £1.

Review of Yatess Public House
28 Apr 08, 08:43
No surprises
Like Wetherspoons you know where you stand with Yates. Well located near to other bars if you're planning to make a real night of it but they are frequently guilty of having the music on so loud you can't talk to anyone. Otherwise a staple part of the Saturday night pub crawl.

Review of Bar Twenty Twelve
28 Apr 08, 08:42
Worth a visit
Never been sure about the significance of its name but it is particularly apt given the area will be hosting the Olympic sailing events. One of the best venues in Weymouth. Good music and a wide variety of spirits. Recommended.

Always busy
You know where you stand with Wetherspoons. This one is really well located if you're planning a crawl through Weymouth and comes with everything you'd expect from this chain. Good beer garden which comes in handy in the summer.

Review of Smugglers Inn
28 Apr 08, 08:38
Out on a limb
I like the Smugglers but the fact it's in the middle of nowhere means someone will always have to be the designated driver. the food is very good and it's a great location for a scenic walk. Gets very busy in the summer which reflects well upon the pub and its staff.

Review of Poet Laureate
28 Apr 08, 08:29
A royal appointment
'Prince Charles' Pub' is exactly what you'd expect. You won't find a pool table and certainly not a fruit machine but you will find good food and drinks that aren't cheap. The Poet does a really good quiz though which isn't ridiculously difficult and doesn't drag on too long like a lot of pub quizzes do. Worth a look.

Review of Tom Brown's
28 Apr 08, 08:26
Much improved
Recently refurbished, Tom Brown's has really made best use of the smoking ban to bring in a fresh new feel to the pub. Fans of traditional ales can still find the famous Tom Brown's brew but those who avoided the place in the past can now benefit from good food, a great beer garden and the new light and airy decor.

Review of Brewers Arms Martinstown

Arms wide open
A warm, welcoming, traditional English country pub with an excellent variety of ales and a bar and restaurant menu to match. A garden with ample seating a good family friendly atmosphere makes for an enjoyable afternoon or evening in the countryside.

Review of Station Master's House
17 Apr 08, 14:25
All's rosy in the garden
Boasting the best beer garden in Dorchester The Station is the ideal venue for a few warm up pints before jumping on the train to Bournemouth. There's no shortage of big screens or tv channels either, making it a great place to watch live sport.

Review of Royal Oak
17 Apr 08, 14:10
Can't go wrong
Revitalised since it was taken over by JD Wetherspoon The Royal Oak is one of the most popular venues in Dorchester. Incorporating a good beer garden it has all the usual attributes of a Wetherspoon pub and is conveniently located close to a bus stop.
