Review of Salcombe Delicatessen

Deli-cious...
This is a good Deli and offers a wide range of yummy food. There are cheeses, olives, meats, pasties and lots more. There also lots of naughty treats such as biscuits and chocolates. As well as this they make sandwiches and baguettes with various different fillings. This makes it a good place to stop off to get a picnic before going to the beach. And in fact my family always gets plain baguettes for lunch from here rather than any of the other places in Salcombe (the upper crust) as their bread is much tastier. There is also a range of ready meals which are made by a Deli in Kingsbridge especially for the Salcombe deli. So if you dont feel like cooking this is a good place to look, because as you may know there are very few grocery stores in Salcombe. The deli offers and quick and friendly service.

Review of Dusters Bistro
28 Oct 07, 22:08
The best food in salcombe...
Dusters is a great bistro situated at the top end of town opposite the ferry steps. It offers freshly cooked food, where everything is made to order. I know for a fact that nothing here is brought in and all the food is made by the chef and his team, right down to the wafer baskets the ice cream comes in. The food is of a high standard and tastes amazing. I can reccommend the salmon, oh and the creme brulee. Due to the service provided at Dusters the food is quite expensive compared to other places in Salcombe but it is definetly money worth spending and you get what you pay for here. Despite all dishes being made to order the service is good and the wait for food is minimal. Plus you get a free appetizer!! During high season Dusers puts on a Jazz night on a sundays every fortnight. There are also the occasional Jazz nights on a Thursday. These are really good evening and the bistro takes on a great atmosphere. Both these nights are always popular and it is worth booking in adavance. Actually in high season it is worth booking a table on any night as Dusters quickly becomes fully booked. The staff are very friendly and attentive. Dusters I reckon serves the best food in Salcombe. So make sure you check it out and dont forget to book your table....

Review of The Ferry Inn Salcombe
28 Oct 07, 21:52
Beautiful view...
All those who have been to Salcombe before will know just how pretty it is, and one of the best places to enjoy the view is in the Ferry Inn garden enjoying a drink. Situated overlooking the estuary you can watch the coming and goings of the ferry taking visitors to the beach on the other side. There is lots of seating and some of it is covered which is good in the summer if you want to escape the sun. The Ferry is a very friendly pub and has a nice mix of locals and tourists. The Ferry is also a good place to get lunch, they do a nice range of "light bites" or more substantial meals. It can get quite busy during high seasonal but the service is still of a good standard. The Ferry does have an indoors eatting area for the evening and a downstairs bar. All in all this is one of the best places to hang out in Salcombe and it is always a nice buzzing place and in a great location.

Review of La Fourchette Brasserie

strange system, bad service...
This place looks nice on the outside and looks all cute and french but all is not what it seems when you walk in. A friend and I went and were confused by the way in which this cafe operated. As soon as we walked in (and I mean as soon as we walked in) we were asked what we wanted to drink and eat. We hadn't even had time to look at what they served, so taken aback we made a quick decision and sat down. Usually you get to take a seat and peruse the menu before making your order but not here, maybe I could understand this if they were busy but they were not. They were so quiet that in fact they forgot to even make our drinks and instead chatted amongst themselves. On finishing the pastries that we were so quickly made to order, we decided that we no longer wanted our drinks so asked for a refund and left. I do have to say that they did not kick up a fuss about giving us our money back and apologised about forgetting our order. The decor of the place is nice and has a sweet parisian feel. It just a shame that the service was poor, im hoping that this was just a one off....

Review of Gazebo

lovelyness in shop form
This is maybe the most beautiful shop I have ever been in, its just so pretty and perfect. If you love shabby chic this is the shop for you. It sells a wide range of Cath Kidston goods, including kitchenware. Perhaps more importantly, is that it is one of the few stockists of Greengate in the U.K. They carry a good selection from crockery to bedspreads. As well as this they sell beautiful cards, wrapping papers. mugs and childrens wear. The staff are really friendly and helpful. I always end up spending too much money here as its just so lovely. It is one of the few shops in the area that sell such good things. I often come to Totnes just to go here and it is a excellent place to look for presents for people. A real must if you re in the area, i always leave feeling inspired...

Review of Kingsbury Lettings
26 Oct 07, 21:52
Good service...
Looking for a place to live in Croydon was not easy, not easy at all in fact. Places were going within hours of being posted. So when finally finding somewhere that was suitable we were glad that we had Kingsbury Letting Agency to help us finalise the contract. We needed to move in ASAP and Kingsbury did all that they could to make sure that we got the flat in time. They sent out contracts, speeded up the reference process and came into the office at the weekend so that they could hand over the keys. We didnt have any problems with them and they were always happy to answer our questions and return our calls. Charges for their service wasnt too bad and in line with most other letting agencies. I would definetly recommend their service.

Review of Miso Noodle Bar
26 Oct 07, 21:44
Good prices...huge portions
Miso noodle bar is a great place to go if you re looking for good food at a great price. You can get a starter, main meal and drink for about a tenner. With these prices you may think that the quality of the food may not be up to standard, but it is. It is all authentically made and there is a good choice on the menu. The staff are friendly and very attentive. Miso also offers a takeaway and home delivery service.

Review of Shakeaway
26 Oct 07, 21:37
Milkshake Madness
Shakeaway is amazing. Here you can have milkshakes made from all sorts of flavours. The menu is extensive, shelves of sweets and cakes line the walls. You can have a Jamaican ginger cake milkshake, or a jelly tots milkshake or if you wanted you can have the two combined. If you re not sure what to have there are helpful suggestions and others that sound less desirable. As well as this they do toppings - maple syrup, cream, malt etc. Prices are quite good, plus they do a loyalty card like most coffee houses do. They also offer a student discount. It can get quite busy and hectic with so many shakes being made at once, so expect to queue. However, if you choose a good combination of flavours, i can assure you it ll be worth the wait.

Review of Old Fire House
23 Oct 07, 22:46
The Firehouse
This is a lovely place to spend an evening. It has quite a rustic feel to it, maybe because theres a lot of candle light and the building is quite old. Theres a nice outside area which is great in the Summer. Inside, theres a bar on the groundfloor with friendly staff. Drinks are reasonablly priced. Upstairs there are different areas, there are plenty of tables and chairs as well as big comfy sofas. It has a nice relaxed atmosphere even though it can get quite busy. An enjoyable place to drink a bottle of wine...or two...

Review of Timepiece
23 Oct 07, 22:38
Good but not great...
Timepiece is a good place to go out, it has a quite a lot to offer. There is an outside area with tables, which is now especially useful for smokers. On the ground-floor there is a large amount of seating as well as a dance area. It can get busy but the bar is usually well staffed. Drinks are reasonably priced. Downstairs has quite a "pubby" feel to it. Upstairs on the other hand is a proper dance floor. You have to pay extra to get up there, i think its £5. They do various different themed nights during the week. Fridays are indie night and are pretty good. Timepiece is popular with quite alot of people but for me I think the Cavern is better
