Review of The Abbey Hotel

Not worth a visit...
Character-less public house situated on the busy high street of the historic town of Battle. A constant turnover of young female staff man the bar while slightly older employees work in the kitchens to provide a standard range of pub food. Often over-cooked or simply incorrectly cooked in deep-fat-fryers, this pub provides a place to drink if one is desperate, and a place to eat if there is no other choice. The service is poor. Clientelle range from those just passed the legal limit to buy alcohol to older regulars scattered around the bar.

Review of The Pilgrims

Excellent french cuisine...
A building dating back to just after the Norman Invasion, unsurprisingly situated next door to the grand gatehouse of Battle Abbey. This top class fine french restaurant has very good service from smart, polite staff. The food is delicious and priced accordingly for the quality. An aperitif is offered in the lounge area where an open fire warms the high ceilinged room, before one moves onto the dining room. Sir Paul McCartney often frequents this beautiful old building with good, fresh, local cuisine.

Review of Simply Italian

Average Italian...
One of a chain of restaurants expanding their list of premises in Sussex. Authentic italian staff serve average Italian food. The service is passable, somewhat lacking in the provision of tradition Italian condiments such as parmesan cheese. One can have just a coffee in their drinks area where the service is slightly better. The prices have recently gone up due to an overhaul of the restaurants' interiors however this money could have been better spent on well trained staff. Sometimes very quiet during the day, the evenings and weekends see the most customers visiting.
