Review of Ha Ha Bar And Canteen

12 Nov 07, 21:56

Average... 3*

This place has a good feel to it and is modern and airy. They serve food here during the day. I have had lunch here once and it was all right, nothing special. I had the nachos and they weren't as good as Cafe des Amis. The prices are reasonable. During the night this is a popular place for a drink and a bit of a dance. There are various themed nights with d.js. This place is quite popular with students.

Review of Alberry's Wine Bar

a good night out... 4*

Personally I don't think there are that many good places to go out in Canterbury and this is as probably as good as it gets. Auberry's is a wine bar but it also has an area to dance downstairs in the basement. This place has a nice feel to it and quite a buzzing atmosphere. Drinks are not too expensive. There is seating upstairs and a small area downstairs. There are two bars with one being situated next to the dance area. There are different themed nights with good dj's. This is a good place for a night out on the town!

Review of The Consortium Bar

03 Nov 07, 11:10

Good music... 3*

In recent years, I have found going out for a few drinks in Bournemouth more of a chore than a pleasure. One cannot move for scores of girls out on hen nights, guys out on stag nights, anyone and everyone throwing up in the street, policemen on horseback attempting to look threatening, overpriced drinks, cheesecore music; the sorry list is endless. To me this all equals one thing: a huge headache. However, if I am going out, I most often will turn to the Consortium. The Consortium's roots lie as a skate-wear shop (which still exists further up Richmond Hill, for all you sk8r bois out there), but don't let that put you off (haha). The music is almost always good, playing just the right mix of oldskool, hiphop and funk that everyone is having a great time. For all those that loved Jazz Juice at the Showbar, it seemed a natural transition for that popular club night to move here if anywhere. A must for the diaries every month. The drinks prices here are also reasonable, with offers on most weekends. They also always have a healthy supply of my shot of choice: sambuca, which gives it a huge thumbs up from me.

Review of Timepiece

23 Oct 07, 23:38

Good but not great... 3*

Timepiece is a good place to go out, it has a quite a lot to offer. There is an outside area with tables, which is now especially useful for smokers. On the ground-floor there is a large amount of seating as well as a dance area. It can get busy but the bar is usually well staffed. Drinks are reasonably priced. Downstairs has quite a "pubby" feel to it. Upstairs on the other hand is a proper dance floor. You have to pay extra to get up there, i think its £5. They do various different themed nights during the week. Fridays are indie night and are pretty good. Timepiece is popular with quite alot of people but for me I think the Cavern is better

Review of Amber Rooms

23 Oct 07, 20:55

dissapointing... 2*

When you first walk into the Amber Rooms is looks pretty impressive. The decor is cool and modern, with lots of room. However, the service I experienced was a bit poor. I waited ages for a cocktail as there was only one person on the bar and then when I got it it didnt taste half as good as the many other equivalents I have tried. Not only this but they were much more expensive costing about £7. There is a dance area upstairs but I didnt stick around to see whats its like. If you're looking for a decent cocktail and even nicer surroundings I suggest you make your way to Starz

Review of Zephyr

not a good night out... 2*

I've only been here once and that was enough. There was one person on the bar all night, so the service was really bad. Just generally I didn't like the vibe there and to be honest there were quite a lot of pikeys. I don't know if I just picked a bad night to go, but I'd say its the worst place I've been out in Exeter. I'd be interested to know what other people feel about it....??
