Review of Starbucks

£ for $ 4*

I first sampled Starbucks in the States and regularly used them for coffee on the go. Now that they are spreading out of London, its a real treat to visit any branch. My only gripe is that the $ in the states is translated into £ in the UK. So a latte at $3.50 ( £1.75) is actually costing £3.50 over here. Its a shame that the Americans love of Cinnammon hasnt come to the UK Starbucks. This branch is great beacuse of the staff ... great Plymuff accents .. asking what Miwk you want in your larrtay.

new look 4*

So much better now that the place has has a face lift - thats probably the reason why so many BIG names come here now. Its sort of become a testing ground for acts to try new material, before taking the show on the road. Saw this with Lee Evans who appeared here, tried the new act, then toured the rest of the country 6 months later.

Ch ch ch changes 4*

I often stopp of here when on my way back home from up country. Just off the M5, jn 27. Great place to pop in to for a bite and a pint. Used to be THE place to go when I was a teenager, as they have a huge function room which used to be the best disco in town.

Great value food and great surroundings too.

Top Banana 4*

M and S has moved from being an old fuddy duddy shop to a shop most people buy from.

The great thing about this outlet in Clarkes Village, is that it is much cheaper than the high street stores. Obviously this stocks mainly end of ranges, but boy is it cheap. A bought a £40 dressing gown for £18 - dad loved it. This branch is huge too.

nostalgia 4*

unfortunately, nostalgia isnt what it used to be .... but this shop comes close. Quite a mish mash of items, mainly presents I guess. Old fasioned sweets in tins, olde worlde looking mirrors and candles. CDs with old 30s music and bands, books about the 60s and those sort of things you saw in grannies house when you were young.

full of bedding 4*

Huge selection, amazing value.

Whatever you are after in bedding you will find it here. Duvets in all sizes, Pillow cases, bed spreads, sheets etc etc etc. Great thing is that they are sold in packs as you would expect 9duvet cover and a couple of cases and a vallance sheet) BUT you can also buy extra in the range as individual items, which is great as you save on buying two "packs"

Aunty Jane 4*

I fell out with my sister in law over a le cruset pot. true - she nicked it from my mother in law and I had my eyes on it!

Thats how much I love cooking with Le Cruset.

A whole shop with the complete range is amazing , traditionally brown, orange and blue in colour, but last visit saw some in PINK!!

Always expensive, no real advantage of buying here as from any other stockist, but at least its all here, not just selected items

How can it be that I live 10 mins drive away from the Factory where they actually make the crystal, yet by driving for 90 mins, I can be in Street at this shop and buy the glass cheaper than I can at home.

Madness. Great for the bargains for some of the worlds best crystal

Review of Whittard

Great brand 4*

I Love Whittard crockery. Only word of warning with this place, buy all you need in one go. I made the mistake of buying 75% of what I needed in October ... went back specifically to get the rest in December and that range had sold out completely.

When there keep an eye open for the tea sampling ... unsual teas , hot and cold!

Good range of coffees and also sweeties too

Great brand 4*

a great brand, but sadly most of the shoes are no longer made in this country.

I love the way this shop is set out in sizes ... you go to the size area you need, and all the shoes are there, so you dont have to ask if a certain style is in ur size. You can look yourself.

Staff tend to be a bit unhelpful

initially thought this was just sports wear .. its not. Loads of fashion clothes from Fila, Dunlop etc etc . I bought Polo shirts there for a fiver - reduced from £19. Jeans from a tenner . Ladies and gents.

My boy also bought a pool cue reduced from £29 down to £8 and also a footy ball for £3.

this is a fabulous shop for designer lable junkies. Prada, CK, Tommy, Miss 60, Roxy Golddigger, Playboy ... all stupidly low prices ... mainly because they are end of ranges or stuff that other shops are left with. Sizes very hit n miss, never medium or large, always XS small and XL .

who owns this? 4*

I suspect that this theatre is privately owned. Primarily because the staff actually care about the punters. Its a lovely intimate theatre - you can almost touch the players! I hope it survives for many years to come, we've seen a few productions here, including a classical group and a play or two. Decor needs updating, but hey, it all adds character

So to get to cloud farm which is at MALSMEAD not Lynton, you need to either drive through the ford, or over the bridge. Once you have, treat your self to a real devon cream tea ( jam or cream on the scone first). They do light snacks but specialise in the cream tea.

excellent 4*

when you live 25 miles away and u go to this place once a week as a treat, its gotta be good. and it is, freshly cooked while you wait and sometimes when they are busy, that wait can be up to 45 mins.

Family run business, they normally have a special of the day Tues - Thurs and always worth giving that a go.

Think they close Mondays , but open up until about 11pm

I cant see from the map if this is the shop i want to rave about or not!

IF it is the one, its bloody brilliant.

Basically they buy the end of ranges from all the major china suppliers.

We had Denby as a wedding gift and this place were actually able to get replacements for broken pieces 8 years later.

Well worth a special trip to stock up on Denby, Doulton and Whittards.

is it still trading? 4*

Im not 100% sure if its still trading or not.

Last time i was there I was chatting to the old guy behind the counter and he said that times were hard.

He'd been there 20 odd years and felt that his style of shop was on its last legs.

This was a traditional old fashioned toy shop. Wooden cars and trucks, toy soldiers for the lads and dollies for the girlies. Games : not ur Mousetrap ot Opperation, but Jacks and skipping ropes and marbles.... fingers crossed, the old guy is still there - well the shop at least.

Depending on the time of year will depend on the goods available.

In season you can get all ur veg - at christmas they do sprouts on a stalk - brilliant. Cauliflowers, carrotts and spuds all locally grown too.

Theres a chill cabinet too, local cheeses and farm cream.

Always a delight.

Go on, let Joe do it, you're paying through the nose for the petrol anyway, you might as well get summat extra for it

Porlock NOT Minehead! 4*

this shop has been around for ever and a day. Always greeted with a smiley face from the ladies.

Huge range of flowers for a small shop, lillies, daffs, roses plus some unusual offerings when in season. During winter the selection IS limited because obviously they are very touristy.

Cut Flower, pot plants ( NO not that type of pot), garden shrubs in spring, bulbs and seeds too.

Great for special displays, weddings funerals et al.

amazing really that these shops exist. Its a bit like the shop in the two ronnies sketch, four candles.

Lovely, charming and back to the days when personal service actually meant something.

This is a really lovely place. Stayed here as a family of 4 over bon fire night. The facilities are amazing - a fab swimming pool , a great area for the adults (sauna hot tub etc), the golf facilities are second to none.

Accommodation wise, the chalets are modern and well equipt. My ONLY criticism is that we were next to a noisy party of guys on a stag weekend and that proved a pain with having a baby ... thin walls are a nightmare.

Its just like standing in ur front room, looking out the window. Moves very slowly so no worries about speed .. it looks like a ferris wheel, but you dont think so when ur inside

Amazingly there are 130 different species set sub-tropical lakeside gardens. From the amazing open rainforest exhibit to the beautiful oriental garden there is something for all ages and abilities. Plenty to keep your children occupied with the tarzan trail, children's play area, animal encounters, face painting and a whole lot more.

Always have what I want in stock and friends have said they can usually get parts within 24 hrs.

I know mechanics that also use them, so that must be a recommendation

from the out side this looks like a Hippy Shop actually its a very nice independant ladies clothes shop. Unique and individual. Not your high street mass produced disposable clothes. Good quality, re assuringly not cheap, but realistically priced. Local shops like this ensure you wont be buying the same clothes that every Kylie and Chanelle have from Chavtastic NewLook.

we had some T shirts done too. it was for a stag doo, we all had the bridegrooms picture put on the front ( amazing u can do that from a photo) and his name in lettering. The T shirt is still going strong, but the prints came off after a few washes, but thats ok - they served a purpose and the price was average t shirt price.

this place is really a restaurant now, not a pub. or is it an art gallery? Its lost its direction and as a result never seems to have much of a trade. the food is very veryy nice, but maybe the wrong location for a really nice food. It is East the Water afterall! As for the Art , thats what gets my 4 stars.

Sunday destination 4*

I only ever go to this place on a Sunday. They have the most amazing carvery - about 20 different veg and 5 or 6 meats. All you can eat and always packed. You really do need to book in advance. Celebration days are impossible _ Easter, Mothers day etc. Run by a couple of gay guys who really know how to lay on a spread. Highly recommended for the Sunday Roast.

Ive used these guys a couple of times when needing some one to spruce up cars I have sold. They do such a great job, inside and out. Probably the best in the area. They tend to always be busy, so make sure you book in advance if u know u deffo wanna job doing. Theres that risk that if they expand to be more efficient, they will end up losing that personal service.

i agree 4*

I agree with the reviews of this place already on here. about it being mainly Natural History.

However, there IS a great section on Branhams Pottery, a complete history of this once thriving business and you can find out all about Sir Rock , a wealthy business man who pumped much needed cash into the town.

You also need to keep an eye on the museums programme of events. Theres a constantly changing programme which adds extra "spice" to this great little museum.

the biggest and best 4*

a huge selection of every day plants. an even bigger selection of unusual and out of the ordinary plantsTheres also shrubs. fruit trees, bushes, a huge rose bush section, seasonal plants (even christmas trees at christmas).

Mainly plants trees and shrubs, but also all the usual stuff gardeners need.

No matter what type of garden you have, rolling lawns, a postage stamp or even troublesome up hill gardening, St Johns will be able to help and advise.

A leasurely stroll around the gardens will take away the stress of todays hectic life style. beautiful rolling lawns, acres of beautifully tended gardens, a myriad of beautiful flowers. really odd place 4*

this tropical extravaganza is housed in an old BBC building in the middle of no where. Head towards minehead and keep going. Its a tropical paradise inside a building. Tropical birds, fish and reptiles are there to be seen and handled. Its (obviously) humid so be prepared to strip down to your vest and probably not a good enviroment if ur slightly claustrophobic. Not really a day out, more a couple of hours well spent, while you stop off on your way to do something else.

Just the once 4*

only ever been to this zoo once. That was 2 years ago. Didnt know what to expect but i had heard good reviews. First thing is that its in the middle of a college campus, which seems odd, second thing is that parking is a nightmare and we had to park in a side street close to the zoo. That aside, this is a really great day out. Without a doubt, every member of the family had a great time. Had been told that there were exotic animals there, but sadly no elephant or giraffes. Not Longleat, but still a great day,
