Review of Ilfracombe Launderette

this place is dreadful
Only ever used it the once. Felt immediately intimidated by the crowd of fag smoking kids hanging around outside ( and some inside). The machines are old, the "shop" is dirty and looks like it hasnt had anyone use it for ever. its rubbish. avoid.

Review of Ilfracombe Tandoori Restaurant

atmosphere
From the out side this place looks dark and dingy and unwelcoming. But once you take a deep breath and actually go inside, you will be surprised. The staff are really helpful and a couple of times I have asked them to choose their favourite from the menu. Its always great food, very reasonably priced. As I said dont be put off by the look of the place, its really exceptional.

Review of Ilfracombe Swimming Pool
11 May 08, 19:05
School use mainly
During term time you have to share the pool with all the schools in Ilfracombe, so its pretty much busy during the days all the time ... The facilities are basic, but it serves the community and the staff are always friendly. Evenings are the best time to catch the place at a quiet moment. In the Summer is popular with visitors.

Review of Ilfracombe Town Football Club

fairweather
Im a fairweather fan. Ifracombe seem to be doing pretty well at the moment. The supporter facilities are virtually non existant at the ground . For the players the facilities are basic. Parking is an absolute nightmare as the ground is at the top of a hill, with houses all round it. Takes ages to get outa the car park as its always double and tripple parked. Suggest you park outside the ground and walk in.

sad and flat
this once thriving family business is a shadow of its former self. once renowned for quailty, over theyears its followed the cheap and tacky route and to be honest is just a cheap jack shop. avoid

Review of North Devon Hospice Shop

the best run and local
its so important to support charity shops, but as they say "charity begins at home" and if ur local you will know the vital work the North Devon Hospice does. Im always surprised at the quality of good in these Hospice second hand shops. They obviously have rigid quality control

Review of Venners Bakery

smell that baking
a real baker mixes the flour adds the sugar and yeast , hand shapes the loaves and bakes the bread ... thats what you get from these guys. cakes, pastries, pasties and pies ALL baked on the premesis. none of your semi cooked and bung in the oven baking here! 0500 in the morning, you can smell the baking as you walk past.

Review of The Marlboro Club
22 Apr 08, 13:03
the best venue in town
this place started as a small club and is rapidly becoming a major venue in the uk. OK its a small venue, but when Demon Alban's "the Queen ..." group debut their new album at this place, you know it has something special. Watch out for the posters around town and sign up to their myspace to get the latest info. Big names AND flying the flag for local bands too.

Blocks with nuts, blocks with cherries. blocks with pieces of ginger. blocks with nougat in, marshmallow, fudge yum. chocolate fish n chips. chocolate nipples. chocolate willies. chocolate sheep poo .... yep they sell chocolate. Spend 5 mins in the chocolate museum too and have a bite in the cafe!

Review of Roly's
22 Apr 08, 12:48
the best EVER
Rolys is locally made ... and you can see it being made right there in the shop ( and we're not talking add water to a pre made mix like they do at Watermouth Castle) Real fudge made infront your eyes. Ask for a free sample before you choose your flavor too. If this stuff hasnt won any awards .. its a tragedy. Real fudge and a real treat .... expertly packed in boxes by people who know how to pack fudge.

Review of Fudgies

just another fudge shop
"locally made fudge" is what they boast but you know, this is the same "locally made fudge" that can be bought from any seaside fudge shop in devon. Loads of flavours and the staff are great, but its just not special enough for a nice present for Gran

Review of Spar Stores

stay away and go somewhere else
The staff are soo rude in this place. its a basic Spar so u know what to expect, but you dont expect rude. what else can you say? I guess with a new Tesco and Co-op openning, it might spur the management to pull their sox up.

Worth it for the staff alone
in Ilfracombe? want a cream tea? these guys make their own scones and cook their own cakes. looks a bit rough outside, but inside its a real gem. good for popping in for a natter and a cuppa ... and most ilfracombe people do! You'll love the staff in here.

Review of The Landmark

So Much on offer
this place is the perfect entertainment centre. Since it was built I have seen a huge variety of shows and performers here and it has a cinema too. They regularly have local talent and bands on stage, as well as some of the big names. Ive seen some great west end productions - that'll be the day, buddy, rock n rol legends etc. as well as ballet, commedians, all round entertainers. a great asset to any sea side town ... and the look of the place is ammusing too

Review of Pendle Stairway Cinema
22 Apr 08, 12:24
history
This place was the height of entertainment way back in the 40s and really, until it closed down mid 00s it hadnt changed in the slightest. Sadly it didnt keep up with changing expectations in the world of cinema goers and was run into the ground. but, from the ashes of the mighty Pendle Stairway has risen the might that is the Embassy.

Review of Embassy Cinema

is it the same place
amazing that this is the same cramped flea pit of 10 years ago. after a much needed re-vamp, this cinema is a real gem. Small cimema, big screen. All the current movies and also some specialist screenings too. It also has a great bar facility so make a good intimate venue too!

Review of Ariel Music Centre
22 Apr 08, 12:15
A must for the budding musician
an absolute must if you are involved in live music. bands and solo singers of all genres of music get to rehearse and record at this remote studio and rehearsal rooms. I believe it is a registered chrity, so theres no set fee for studio time or rehearsal time, they just ask for a donation to keep the place going. Virtually all u need is there including digital recording facilities. well worth looking into if your band is putting together a demo.

Review of The Terrace

excellent place
if youve never had spanish food before try here. forget the main menu and just go for all the starters - you get a HUGE tapas selection. 4 of us went for valentines day and it was so good, we've now been several times ... always just the starters! If its a special occasion, have a look at the champagne cocktail range .... hell, i must go again soon.

Review of Chick N Land

not in kentucky
ha , another chicken place that is trying SOOOO hard to be a Kentucky Fried Chicken. Unlike the other places, this one comes very close. Had a really great takeaway from this place, reasonably priced too. I was pleasantly surprised.

Review of Golden Bay Restaurant Holiday Flats

Greasy Spoon!
If you remember the days of greasy spoon cafes of the 70s ... you've gonna love this place. Run by two ladies who enjoy a laugh in that "saucy postcard" way . Great for fry ups during the day !! Doesnt really work as the upper crust restaurant it tries to be in the evening tho. Plastic table cloths, sauce in oversized squeezable tomatoes and ice cream floats .... long live this place.

Review of Pizza House
22 Apr 08, 12:00
fab !!!
yes, a real pizza place! all freshly baked ... you choose the toppings - watch out tho cos every topping is extra. Usually quick. Its a takeaway so no where to eat the good once cooked. Although standard packing, the pizzas dont travel well so eat as soon as you can once youve bought it

NO !!
I used to mitch off school to go to this place way back in the 80s it was FAB. Sadly, it hasnt changed a bit, still dark, still dingey and still in need of a facelift. recently went there with the kids mid week 2pm only to be told " we dont do food after 2" - WAKE UP .. this is 2008 for god sake. I bet they close half days on a wednesday too. AVOID.

great afternoon of fun
lets face it , it always rains in Ilfracombe, but hey it doesnt matter when theres places like this open. Limit yourself to how much youre gonna spend and you'll be fine. Me and the kids limit ourselves to a £1 bag of 2ps each - when its gone its gone. you'll win a few pence along the way, but you'll soon put it all back in again! as my kids say "slots and slots of fun"
