Review of Lynton & Barnstaple Railway Co

10 Apr 08, 13:48

History 5*

OK so this isnt British Rail ok. Its a group of local people with a love of railways who want to re-instate the old Lynton to Barnstaple line - frankly it'll never happen, but we can dream. this is a small piece of track that has been restored on the old route. Great as a tourist nostalgia trip, but dont expect to go anywhere except back to where you started from. Its an hour well spent, but not a whole day out.

Review of Youth Hostels Association

YHA ... well you know 3*

all you would expect from a YHA. Pretty basic facilities, but warm and friendly. If all you needs a shower and a bed for the night and you dont mind it being to the bare minimum this is great. If you've ever stayed in a YHA before then you know what to expect. If you're after luxuries in your stay ..... probably best to search again

Review of Sunny Lyn Caravan Park

10 Apr 08, 13:38

Fabuloso 4*

gotta be one of the best camp sites in the area. Camping with tents or mobile homes this place caters for all. acilities are limited, but youre not far from a great pub (Bridge Inn) and only a mile or two from Lynton and Lynmouth. Theres a bar and supplies shop on site, electricity to the camper vans and shower and individual running water facilities

Review of David Mirow

10 Apr 08, 13:34

Hmm? 3*

I dont know what Davids property business is like, but I do know he made a great landlord back when he owned a local pub. if his reputation as a landlord is anything to go by, I'd say you were in safe hands. this business venture has been established for about 5 years now, so one can only assume he knows his stuff

Review of R J Bingham

have a go 5*

weather youre visiting the area or live locally, this is an excellent stables to visit. my girl was just 5 when she first went and has enjoyed riding ever since. shes now 15. Its a stable for riders of all abilities. The horses are well looked after and range from real "plodders" for the novice to "gallopers" for the more experienced rider. probably worth booking ahead rather than just turning up.

Review of The Lynton Cinema

10 Apr 08, 12:55

At Last a cinema 4*

for years Lynton didnt have one .. now it has. OK so not many NOW movies, but here you can get to see some of the movies that hit the big towns a few months earlier. You'll certainly see stuff here b4 it hits DVD

Review of Lynton Pharmacy

10 Apr 08, 12:52

What do you expect? 4*

Its a pharmacy. But a well stocked one at that, you'd be hard pushed to find a town centre chemist thats better stocked. If you need advice then Paul and his team are there to help. For minor ailments its worth popping in to ask them, rather than bothering the overworked doctor.

Review of Granville Garage

10 Apr 08, 12:48

Once Upon A Time ... 3*

This used to be my local garage .. god knows how Neil and his team make any money as they are always doing quick freebies. They are always busy and there can often be a day or two's wait for any major work .. but hey, Lynton's a beautiful place, whats the rush???

Review of Lynton Sheepskin Shop

10 Apr 08, 12:44

There are better 2*

This place is a shaddow of its former self. Once a thriving business making a vast array of Laether and sheepskin goods on the premesis. Sadly, chances are you wont find anything worth while to buy, which is a real shame.

Review of Exmoor Yum Yums Shop

10 Apr 08, 12:40

There are better 3*

This is a bog standard sweet shop. Usual selection of rock and sweets that every other shop in Lynmouth stocks. Nothing really special, just average. There are better sweet shops in Lynmouth street

Review of Farthings Of Exmoor

10 Apr 08, 12:35

Antiques? 4*

Great shop for old stuff, not really antiques tho, but some great collectors pieces. Some really nice old paintings and prints. Old collectable plates and coins, stamps and some really odd pieces too. worth spending an hour or so just poking around.

Aladdins Cave of goodies 5*

just like Aladdins cave, choca block with trinkets and nick nacks. Great for souvenirs, sticks of rock and buckets n spades. Novelty is the word with this emporium of tackyness... i love it.

WOW !! 5*

Unigue gifts for people who dont want to take home a stick of rock or a bag of dodgy fudge. Quality gifts and trinkets for house and home ... and for fun. A real treasure trove I LOVE THIS SHOP!!!!!

Review of Londis

10 Apr 08, 12:08

What You'd Expect 3*

Lets face it, a Londis is Londis. Cram packed with goods, basic provisions and that smell that local food shops have ... what IS that smell? Only bonus is that the staff are friendly.

Review of Bridge Inn

get yer walking shoes on 5*

this pub is at Lynbridge, just outside of Lynton. Well worth donning ur boots to sample the huge variety real ales and pub grub. Probably the best pub in the area, u dont have to walk there as there IS a car park near by.

Review of Tanmoye Restaurant

10 Apr 08, 11:52

Very Hit n Miss 1*

This place has had about 3 name changes in as many years - but the staff stay the same. The place is huge and it takes a lot of bodies to warm the place up. Great that theres an indian in Lynton - but the food is hit and miss. Sometimes great, mainly bland and tasteless. Worth driving 20 miles to Barnstaple or Minehad instead.

Looks Good 2*

Looks like a nice place, but found the menu limited. The staff didnt know what was on or off of the menu. The restaurant was cold and unwelcomimg - sadly the calor gas heater couldnt cope with the vast area of the place.Maybe its change since i last visited which was a couple of years ago
