Review of Lundy Fish

no contest 4*

forget the counter at sainsburys - this is the one of the only places to get real fresh fish. it all arrives fresh from boats in the harbour (well mainly) a tremendous selection and well worth asking the guys what they have thats different that day.

Review of Co Op

Co- Op 3*

What is it about the staff in the smaller supermarkets ... do they really all have to be grumpy? Co Op, Londis, Cost Cutters, they are alway miserable! Having said that, this small village store is very well stocked with all the same bargains of the bigger branches.

Review of Appledore Library

28 Apr 08, 13:17

SAVED 4*

this library was recently ear marked for the chop .. thank goodness local support for the library proved a need for such a servive in theis small village. A radio campaign saw membership rocket at the time of threatened closure. i wonder how many of those new members actually use the library now tho. Its a small library, but well stocked. A valuable asset to a remote town

Review of Skern Lodge

Wold renowned 4*

Although " in the middle of no where " this is what we used to call an "outward bounds" facility. Groups of kids learing to play , work and bond together. Excellent for company team building for adults too. They get pretty busy, so you do need to think in advance if you want to book.

Review of Appledore Football Club

Good venue 3*

Conveniently placed club just on the out skirts of the village. Ideal venue of private functions too. Have spent many a wedding reception and birthday party in the club house. The sporting facilities are basic but absolutely repectable.

Review of Beaver Inn

if you can find it .... 4*

this is one of North Devons hidden treasures. A small olde world pub, great food, great beers and really welcoming. they regularly hold jazz nights so look out for the posters. the only trouble you may have is actually finding the place as its well hidden ... just ask a local ... it'll be well worth it.
