Review of Country Wearhouse

Leisure?? 3*

this is a walkers paradise. really lovely shop for boots, wet weather gear, sensible hats - all very tally ho old chap.

They aim for the gentleman type - and to be fair why not , they have the money afterall!.

Not the place to go or a kagool or some flip flops. But in need of a riding crop or a nice pair of wellies, this is the place.

Expensive, but you play for the quality

Review of Pamala Dukes

Porlock NOT Minehead! 4*

this shop has been around for ever and a day. Always greeted with a smiley face from the ladies.

Huge range of flowers for a small shop, lillies, daffs, roses plus some unusual offerings when in season. During winter the selection IS limited because obviously they are very touristy.

Cut Flower, pot plants ( NO not that type of pot), garden shrubs in spring, bulbs and seeds too.

Great for special displays, weddings funerals et al.

Review of Londis

Londis is spreading 3*

this used to be a locally owned shop. Now its a londis. Usual selection of stuff that every londis has. This is the only food shop in the village, so you really are stuck for choice. Its average, its over priced, has some special offers of stuff you wouldnt normally buy.

Staff are local so know everyone. can be a pain if ur in a hurry and someone infront of you is having a chat - recently selling postage stamps too and has a cash point machine.

Review of Gift Shop

29 May 08, 17:12

just average 3*

prodominantly a gift shop, but they also do a lovely range of sweeties - dont go Mars Bar hunting - not that sort of sweets.

You'll find fudges and candies - the fudge packers have even boxed the fudge ready to take home.

Theres a lovely range to give as gifts. with boxes bearing the words " thanks for looking after ..... " cat, dog, kids , gran, house.garden etc)

Review of Porlock Hardware

29 May 08, 17:07

wow 4*

amazing really that these shops exist. Its a bit like the shop in the two ronnies sketch, four candles.

A complete mess, but the old blokey knows where everything is ... and he probably has exactly what you need.

It has that old hardware smell about it, a bit like meths and compost .

Lovely, charming and back to the days when personal service actually meant something.

Review of Royal Oak

Country Pub 4*

A country pub in the heart of the village. Last time I went there there was a big burley man with a beard serving - imagine Brian Blessed pulling real ale pints.

Great place for pub grub too, nothing fancy but great value and plenty of it.

Review of Porlock Pizza & Pasta

does what it says 4*

as it says on the advert - it does what it says on the tin.

With no Pizza Hut in site, this is the next best thing . Actually Id rather go here than Pizza Hut.

At least here the pizzas are fresh, you can choose exactly what you ant on top and you can see them being made.

Great that tey do the pasta now ... and thats better than Pizza Huts too!

Average prices, staff care about customers because they want you back.

Review of Porlock Takeaway

29 May 08, 16:46

its a take away 3*

fast food at its best. does all you'd expect really burgers, chips, fish, sausages.

Has a good selection of extras, gravey, curry sauce , chilli sauce etc etc etc.

Grab a drink too, usual cold drinks, coke, 7 up etc.

they DO cook to order at quite periods so u may have to wait for some things to be cooked ... well at least its fresh

Review of Whortleberry Tea Rooms

29 May 08, 16:44

olde worlde 4*

After taking mu mum here for her birthday treat, I srta feel that this review should have a "e" on the end of every word.

The place is all Olde Worlde and verye verye nicey. Doileys and lace, nice aprons on the Olde Worlde ladiese. Tea ( in a pot) and Fancies ( from a stainless steel tower thing) all add to this long forgotten trip down memory lane.

Review of Piggy In The Middle

29 May 08, 16:40

the PLAICE to be! 4*

You really dont wanna go here if you dont eat fish .... that is what they specialise in and that is what they do best. They rely on the fish of the day, that has been caught locally that day, by the local fishermen. The selection is stunning - if u feel brave, try something off the chalk board, yo're likely never to have had it before

Review of The Camellia Restaurant

29 May 08, 16:37

Very nice indeed 4*

went here , not through choice, but because some friends of the family were having a gathering. There were about 30 of us and I must say the staff coped wreally well with 30 people all ordering different things from the menu. The food was basic, but lovely, not out standing , but very very good. The menu prices were average and the staff were exceptional.
