Easy petrol 
This petrol station has just had a big refurb, meaning that it's now got a Somerfield attached. Petrol's not too expensive, it's easy to get into and get out of, and that's pretty much all you need.

Busy
Just before you get into Wokingham as you're coming in from the A329(M) is this fairly big Shell garage, it's well stocked inside the shop and the price is a bit below average for the area.

You know what you're going to get
Pizza Express is a good old standby if you can't think where to go with a friend or with the family. It's great to have one in Wokingham, if you're lucky you can park on the street right outside (if not there's parking behind the Post Office round the other side of the one way system). It gets surprisingly busy in here, and the staff are friendly with the food arriving promptly at a decent price.

One of their biggest
W H Smith in Bath used to be over the road and further down, years ago, but they moved to these premises and they're huge, spread out over two big floors with an excellent range of pretty much everything you'd expect to get in Smiths. They could do with some new carpets, though.

Good fun
I'm not sure exactly who Fat Face are aiming at, I've got a feeling it might be people a lot younger than me, but I still love it in here, and so do my children. Inventive range and although the prices sometimes seem a bit much, it's quality stuff.

They squeeze everything into here
This is just a great, massive hardware shop - it's actually not that big in terms of size, but they manage to cram so much into it. And the staff always know where everything is, which is just as well. Great value too.

Good traditional store
I used these guys to repair my watch a little while ago, they were helpful when I took it in, and they did exactly what they promised. It feels like a store that's been around forever, and it's not on the main streets so easy to miss (it's just around the corner from Boots and the shoe shop).

Huge range
This is the best Argos in the area, it's the one near Staples and Toys R Us, it's got a huge range and quick service. You don't need much from Argos - just let me pay for the stuff and then let me take it from the shop - and these guys do that pretty well.

Sports arena with skiing

Great value
I saw this place reviewed in the Wokingham Times and it got a good write-up, we tried it one Sunday lunchtime and the service was excellent, the food arrived quickly and there was a huge range on the menu. The kids thought there wasn't enough child-friendly stuff on offer, but for adults it's certainly a good bet.

Great value
I needed to get a bunk bed for the children in a hurry after the previous one broke, and the people in this branch of Dreams really bent over backwards to help. They managed to track down the bed I wanted, and although I had to pay extra for immediate delivery, it was worth it. Their prices and range are excellent.

Great fast food
I know Dominos isn't everyone's cup of tea but I think this branch of the pizza place is really good. The service was helpful, we ordered by phone, went round to pick up at the time we were given, and it was all there, ready for us to collect. And the quality of the pizzas was excellent.

Great out-of-town centre
The car park of this John Lewis is a funny shape, but apart from that I can't speak highly enough about it. It's not particularly near anywhere (apart from the M40) but the quality of the goods are excellent and the service is speedy and helpful.

Pretty cool
The children say the range of sweets is the most important, and you certainly won't go wrong here, but the cinema itself is fine. They have a good website if you want to book in advance, although they charge a surcharge for that. Parking is never a problem.

Easy to find the stuff you need from the categorised catalogues. Service is quick, they've got one of those machines which means you can pay by credit card and get the order placed automatically without having to queue for someone at the tills.

Good range
This is a great branch of Tescos, it's not 24 hours but it's open until late in the evening, with a good choice of food and home goods. Parking is easy (although it does get busy at the weekend so you might have a long walk to the car). Doesn't have much in the way of clothes etc - the Camberley branch is bigger and better for that, but its fine as a supermarket.

Good service
I've been in this place, buying phones for me or for my children, more times than I like to admit. They won't rip you off, they've got the latest range and you'll be sorted pretty quickly, so long as the stores not packed out. Probably the best place to come for Orange in Reading.

The thing you notice most about this HMV is that it's absolutely huge - it must be one of the biggest in the country, I'd have thought. It's got everything you need and obviously the prices are sometimes not as cheap as you can get on the internet, but you'll walk out with it there and then.

Easy electrical shopping
Used to be Dixons when the Oracle first opened. If you want to buy electrical goods in a shop rather than on the internet, this is about as good a place as you can find. It's quick and easy, and they've probably got what you want.

Great at what they do best
The thing I like about this Thorntons is that it seems to be imaginatively run - there are often special promotions, displays or new products worth trying. It gets very busy in here at the weekends (it's not a big place) but the staff seem to be well trained and happy enough, and it never seems a chore to queue.

I haven't stayed here but I've eaten in the restaurant, and it's brilliant. A really good choice near the centre of Bristol, the location is an old sugar factory (hence the address) and it's full of character and charm, with a wide menu and great service.

Elegance and class
If you are bored of neon lit super bars with girls aloud on loop then 1812 is the place for you. Cocktails to die for at prices that won't force you to call for an extension to the overdraft every time you fancy more sex on the beach. Classy decor, soft lighting, friendly and talented bar staff, people worth talking to and jazz on tap. Plus if you fancy something to eat before you luxuriate in the plush surroundings, 1812 has its own restaurant that has wonderful food too. You will find this gem across the road from the BIC just metres from Bournemouth's famous sandy beaches.

Snug and full of character
This pub was badly damaged by fire a few years ago and has been completely refurbished but without losing it's historic feel. The bar staff will make you feel welcome and the food is straightforward and prompt. In the summer there's a great view out over the countryside from the tables outside.

There are two Waterstones in Reading, there's one in the Oracle and this on in Broad Street, which is probably bigger and with a more extensive range. It says Great Portland Street in the address but this branch of Carluccio's is actually in Market Place, just tucked away behind Oxford Street on the corner with Portland Place. Service is quick, and it gets really busy so they don't particularly want you to hang around, but if you like busy happening places in London and you don't need to spend all day there, try this cafe/restuarant.

Excellent service
This is the best shop in Berkshire for musical instruments, if you've got a youngster learning to play at school they do a brilliant deal where after you've rented an instrument for a certain period of time, you can put those payments towards the cost of a new one. All the staff really know what they're talking about and go out of their way to help.

This place isn't all that easy to find, make sure you've got a map handy, and definitely book in advance because it gets really busy. It's a really lovely pub/restaurant with great service, and you'll want to just relax and stay there all afternoon soaking up the atmosphere, and probably the alcohol as well.

By the sea
Come here when someone else is paying. It's really nice, right down by the beach with great views out over the sea, spacious and airy with good service and a lot to choose from.

Stylishly upmarket
This place takes its name from the fact that it's in what used to be part of the Bournemouth Echo. The bar's a good place for a drink (standy for the credit card to take a pounding, though) and the food and service in the restaurant is excellent.

For a really upmarket meal
This is a seriously classy place - so don't expect anything cheap or quick. If you fancy going upmarket, for top-class food in a stylish surrounding, this is the place for you.

It's in Eversley not in Hook as the address on the entry says. It's a really good little village shop serving the local area with papers, magazines, food and emergency supplies.

Not cheap, but good
Brace yourself because it's a bit pricey in here, but if you can afford it (or someone else is paying) it's worth it for the views and for the excellent atmosphere and good service.

Don't know how long this one's been open but it seems pretty new, it's a big Waitrose with good service and an excellent range, easy parking and open until fairly late in the evening during the week.

There's more competition on the Holdenhurst Road for cafes than there used to be but the Flying Coffee Bean is still a good bet. Friendly service, good coffee.

Support your local bookshop
This little bookshop in the Maiden Earley shopping centre really deserves a visit, they've worked hard to make it a nice place to go and we need shops like this to survive. They've got a good range of kids books if you're looking for something to keep them amused. Well worth a visit.

Handy for the cinema
The George is just by the multiplex - it's a good pub with a big menu and great service. Gets very busy so if the car park looks full, you'll be lucky to get a seat, but it's worth a try if you've never been there before.

One of Costa's best
This is the favourite Costa I've been in - you can park just behind in the car park near Tesco, the staff are always cheerful, and although it gets very busy mid-morning it's a good place to grab a coffee and a sit-down.

You'll find this Ottakars has become a Waterstone's now - it's full of staff who really seem to care about their jobs, they're really helpful and it's a lovely bookshop in a very nice town.

Good restaurant in a great location
I don't think you can book a table at Browns but turn up early and you'll get a good place. The service is excellent, there's a good menu to choose from, and it's a favourite place to get a good meal in Bath.
