Review of Jones Bootmakers

Great service
Just on the way out of (or into) the Oracle near to John Lewis and the Pier, this is a really good shoe shop with great service, better than you'd expect. Can't recommend highly enough.

Review of iBike

Great service
First of all, this bike shop isn't cheap.
It's for people that want to spend proper money (£400+) on a really decent bike.
They do racing bikes for on-road, and mountain bikes for off-road, and you can get one as good as you like, including spending many thousands if you want it built from scratch from individual top-quality components.
They'll measure you on the latest hi-tech equipment and set the bike up just for your size, and they'll give you great advice. Can't recommend this place highly enough.

Review of Harts Boatyard

Great spot
This is one of the nicest gastro-pubs around, great food and service, good range of drinks and it's in one of the nicest spots you can imagine, right on the River Thames. Highly recommended.

Review of London Aquarium

Great day out
OK, it's expensive, but everything's expensive if you're taking the children out or doing something touristy in London. I went here with four boys under the age of 12, and they all had a brilliant time and were talking about it for days and weeks afterwards.

Review of Blockbuster Video
19 Apr 08, 19:26
All you need
I've been using these guys for a long time and Blockbusters is a simple enough idea. The people who run this store do it brilliantly. Sometimes you can be queuing for a while, but it's worth it because they've probably got the film or game you want. Reasonable prices to hire.

Review of Lush
19 Apr 08, 09:56
Great, even for blokes
This was the first Lush I ever went in, so I was a bit surprised by the slightly hippy style of layout, labelling and products, but it's all good stuff and if you're looking for a present to buy girlfriend/wife/mother, it's a great easy stopping-off place.

Review of Beaverbrooks The Jewellers
19 Apr 08, 09:40
Best jewellers in town
This place looks too expensive from the outside, but don't be scared off, it's good value for most things, and the staff inside are always really helpful. They'll do repairs (watches etc) as well. Gets busy at peak times but there are normally enough staff around.

Review of John Lewis
19 Apr 08, 09:39
As good as can be
John Lewis is just the best all-round store in Reading for just about everything. I remember when it was still called Heelas - I did my Christmas shopping there in 1989! - but it's got better and better, has excellent staff, and the prices are normally fairly reasonable for the high street.

Review of Coffee Republic

Good addition to Holdenhurst Road
It's smart in here, they're keen to help and there's good coffee. This place hasn't been around for long - it's up next to Subway - so if you haven't tried it, it's worth popping in. Friendly people and good surroundings.

Review of Windcraft

Also known as Dawkes
This is a really excellent music shop, staffed fully by experts who know what they're talking about but who are also really approachable. They also do a very good deal if your child is learning to play an instrument at school, where your rental payments on the instrument can eventually count towards the purchase price of a new one.

Review of The Oracle Shopping Centre
14 Apr 08, 11:04
Best shopping centre for a long way
The Oracle is the best place to come for shopping and food - Reading was waiting a long time for a centre like this, and it's great. The bars and restaurants down by waterside also have a great range.

Review of Apple Store
12 Apr 08, 10:59
Great
The reviews for the Apple Store look a bit mixed but I just love it, it's well-laid-out with room to move around, the staff really know what they're talking about and are sure to help you out, and the products are clearly just the smartest things around.

Review of Eyesite
12 Apr 08, 10:54
Completely reliable
What you need from an opticians is complete piece of mind that they really know what they're doing, good service and proper attention to detail. Eyesite has been in Reading for years and years, and they're excellent for eye tests, contact lenses and glasses.

Review of At-Bristol
12 Apr 08, 10:43
An excellent new-style exhibition venue
@Bristol has had great reviews and it deserves them, if you're planning a day out with children or grandchildren then it's an excellent venue, with plenty of experimentation for the children - think of it as a science museum, in a new style. The food in the cafe is great too.

Review of Milestone Hampshires Living History Museum
12 Apr 08, 10:24
A great day out with the children
This is an excellent museum, with streets rebuilt in the style you'd have seen them in, centuries ago. It looks like a huge aircraft hanger from the outside, but inside it's amazing. If your children are at all interested in history, studying at school or just curious, take them here and you'll have a great time.

The best butchers around
If you want somewhere with proper service where they really know what they're serving you, this butchers is the best for a long way around. Top quality meat. We got our turkey from here a couple of years ago and it was the best we'd had.

One of the best restaurants in Bath
Can't recommend this one highly enough if you've got the money to spend on a posh meal out in Bath. Great food and service.

Review of Mr Q Chinese To Take Away

Perfect Chinese takeaway
It's a really good takeaway, good value (and yes they throw the prawn crackers in for free if you're spending enough), really quick service and they're friendly too.

Review of Blubeckers Eating House
10 Apr 08, 14:40
Perfect place to go - the old Tally Ho
This is the pub that used to be the Tally Ho, just on the bend in the road before you head from Berkshire into Hampshire and up towards Eversley. It's really good - excellent food and service, and if you've got children to feed, they'll make them really welcome. Book in advance because it gets very busy.

Review of Prezzo Restaurant
10 Apr 08, 14:13
Great Italian food
I've never been disappointed in this Prezzo, it's got a great atmosphere - gets really busy even mid-week - and the food and service are excellent. Best place to eat out in Wokingham, I think.
