Review of Rodizio Rico

22 May 07, 11:37

New World Brazilian Cusine 3*

Having decided on a having a meal on Upper Street, we thought we'd vary from the usual choices of Italian, Burgers, Pub food, etc and decided upon Rodizio Rico, a Brazilian restaurant serving an all you can eat buffet. With only just three dishes, the vegetarian buffet, meat buffet and seafood buffet, if you are not in a hungry mood Rodizio Rico may not be the place for you however, if you are then perfect. There is a large salad buffet, serving a range of salads, rice, chips, pastas and more but where the real novelty comes in, is when waiters come to your table periodically bringing you various different barbequed meats, cutting slices for you off at your table. With cuts of garlic beef to chicken to pork ribs to sausage, there should be something for everyone. At £19 for a meat buffet the price is reasonable simply for the sheer amount of food on offer. Though a great meal and night out Rodizio Rico is not without it's negatives. The seafood variation only provides you with a prawn and couple of pieces of squid, which althouh only £5 more, was slightly underwhelming. In addition, it can take a while sometimes, especially as the restaurant got busier, in order for the waiters with meat to come over and with little discipline it's easy to get full on carbs and salad during the periods of waiting. All in all though, an enjoyable night was had by all.

Review of Tinseltown

19 May 07, 11:20

Poor Food, Poor Service 1*

Having visited this 24 hour diner for lunch, I must say I was very disappointed with both the level of service and the standard of the food. When we arrived at the establishment we had to wait for 10 minutes for anyone to acknowledge us and even then we were simply told we couldn't sit where we were sitting! We then had to wait a further 15 minutes to be served and the waitress struggled to understand our orderhad to go to the counter to pay as a waitress couldn't be contacted to give us the bill. The food came fairly quickly but was very bland. All in all, Tinseltown may be good for late night food when you've had a few drinks but don't go sober!!

Review of Sakib Indian Cuisine

18 May 07, 22:20

Curry With a Smile 4*

Sakib is a small Indian Restaurant located in Burnt Ash Hill, Lee, London. The currys they serve are great tasting and reasonably priced but best of all is the great service they offer. The waiters are very polite and make you feel welcome. At Sakib, they are very keen to reward regular customers and often offer me free starters or side dishes when I eat in. They also offer a take-away and delivery service, though people can also collect their takeaway and benefit from money off their order.

Review of The Elbow Room

A Pool Excuse for a Bar 2*

The Elbow Rooms has many locations across London and is a bar/pool room. The difficulty the chain has with attempting to be both a pool hall and bar is the fact it acheives mediocrity in both areas. As such the Elbow Rooms falls short in trying the create the desired atmosphere of either a bar or place to play pool. In addition to this, the Elbow Rooms is fairly expensive and overall, is not really to my liking.

Review of Vinopolis

Wine Tasting Fun 4*

Having recently visited Vinopolis for a wine tasting "social event" with work, I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by how much fun I had. Being not much of a wine fan I hadn't expected to have enjoyed the day but the staff there were very friendly and informative and they have a variety of other tasting experiences such as whisky, absinthe and beer. For those not interested in wine tastings, Vinopolis has a very amiable bar and restaurant, though having not tried the food I am not in a position to review it.

Review of Masala Zone

13 May 07, 23:36

Fast Food Curry 2*

With many restaurants around London I had expected Masala Zone to have been a pleasant meal, if not spectacular... It definitely wasn't spectacular!! While the service was OK, the atmosphere in the restaurant felt like that of a fast food chain. The menu was very limited for a curry house and the dishes they did serve were very bland in taste and small in portion. On top of the sub standard we appeared to be rushed in and out as fast as possible.

Review of Chandler Wright

Premium Haircut, Premium Price 4*

Chandler Wright have an array of very polite and amiable hairdressers who know what they are doing (unlike some other hairdressers i've been to!). They offer a very personal service and as such are always keen for people to have their hair cut by the same person. They are always happy to try and arrange an appointment to suit you and offer a variety of drinks and sandwiches for customers while they wait to have their haircut. Though haircuts are not generally cheap I feel that you are getting a good service and more importantly a good haircut from a skilled hairdresser.

Review of Cafe Gallipoli Bazaar

10 May 07, 22:24

Nice Food, Poor Service 3*

Having recently been to Gallipoli Bazaar for our office Christmas dinner, I was impressed with the food but the service and atmosphere was far from impressive. We appeared to be very squashed in, almost to the point where I felt quite claustrophobic. Worse still was the fact that they seemed to rush us in and out despite us being a large party who had spent a considerable amount of money. This could have been due to the fact we were there during a busy Christmas period but I feel it is quite inexcusable as I believe good service to be a key component of a good meal.

Review of Zero Degrees

10 May 07, 19:31

Beer and Pizza! 4*

Zero Degrees is a small chain of restaurants and microbreweries. They offer their own beer, which is brewed on site and a range of pastas and pizzas. The atmosphere is generally very pleasant and the staff are very polite. While I feel the bar is let down by only stocking their own beer (which as it is unfiltered is not really to my taste), the food in the restaurant is very tasty and they offer a range of more unusual pizzas such as the Caramelised Pear & Gorgonzola and Peking Duck pizzas, which are reasonably priced.

Review of The Mitre

10 May 07, 18:04

Cheap but Rough 2*

The Mitre is part of the chain of Scream bars located around the UK and as such it does not vary from the other Scream Bars. With a "Yellow Card" (which are available for just £1) customers can benefit from cheap drinks. Unfortunately with cheap drinks can often come an undesirable clientele and the Mitre does not differ and fights have been known to break out in this particular bar. In summary, you know what you are getting with a Scream bar... Cheap drinks but poor atmosphere!
