Review of The Skydome Arena

28 May 08, 19:19

Dome 2*

The Sky Dome is a hulk of a building in Coventry. It's nothing special just one of those outskirt of town places that includes things like an Old Orleans, clubs, burgers and an odeon.

Parking is free if you are using the cinema, otherwise it can be expensive.

Review of Tesco Express

30 Apr 08, 01:45

Potato Famine 2*

This is a pretty useless Tesco Express. It's really small and is constantly sold out of basic food like chicken, bread and any vegetables. Honestly it's ridiculous - go first thing in the morning or not at all - and don't expect to find any potatoes.

The staff are also rude and weird.

Review of Internacionale

30 Apr 08, 01:36

Shop 2*

This is a mixture of homewear and ladies clothing. Kind of like a low rent Urban Outfitters.

It's at the back of the Hounds Hill centre but I think may be shutting soon due to the redevelopment.

Clothes are ok but nothing special & the changing rooms are often quite messy.

Review of Bay Trading Co

30 Apr 08, 01:35

Shop 2*

In the former location of Dolcis, Bay Trading seems like quite a tacky shop or at least one that is frequented by mid teens.

Dolcis still has a small section of the store occupying the left hand wall. However everything is quite jumbled and they seem to take ages getting shoes for you to try on.

Review of Foxhall

30 Apr 08, 01:23

Rough 2*

Traditionally known as one of the roughest pubs in Blackpool I wouldn't go here unless you really had to.

It was pretty grotty and run down but a refurb spruced it up a little. However unless you like fights, I'd avoid.

Review of Yates's Wine Lodge

30 Apr 08, 01:18

Booze 2*

Ring and check ahead if you're planning to go to this Yates as it's only open half the year when it's in season.

This is larger than the other Yates but also frequented by more holiday makers as it's down the more skanky south shore end of the promenade.

Lots of tables outside which is good for smokers and sun fans.

Review of Ask

Rubbish 2*

A pretty soulless restaurant on Marlborough's gorgeous main street. It's really big so unless busy it feels really empty and quite cold. Our food was ok, but the staff were a bit dismissive. There were only about 8 customers so this was disappointing.

Pop fact: Will Young worked here, before he was famous.

Review of Subway

idiots 2*

I am convinced the Subways of the West End are staffed by idiots.

Much like the Leicester Square branch, the staff in here have no interest in what they are doing and put little effort into communicating with the customer.

There is a decent sit down area though and it is kept reasonably clean.

Review of Odeon Cinema

16 Apr 08, 01:52

Films 2*

This Odeon is in a gorgeous old building on Holloway Road. It's a cinema so you know what to expect - however I've found that the staff are a bit funny here. Maybe a bit too defensive trying to protect themselves from scallies. For instance they wouldn't let me wait inside the building for my friend (who had our tickets) because I didn't have a tickets. Never mind the screen - it was the building!!

Review of Shish Restaurant

16 Apr 08, 01:20

Rank 2*

One of a small chain of restaurants. Located just off Hoxton Square the food is pretty cheap for the area, but I've never really enjoyed it.

I've had a chicken wrap kebah thing both times and the chicken has always been very fatty and not very tasty. On the other hand the cocktails are nice.

Wouldn't go again.

Review of Tower Lounge

16 Apr 08, 00:58

Dance 2*

If you're a tourist you will probably visit the tower lounge, but don't expect any locals to be in there.

It's a massive venue underneath Blackpool tower and has two huge bars running down each side of the room. There's a large dancefloor and a stage to dance on. The DJs play cheesy / dance chart music and it's all very Blackpool Kiss Me Quick.

Avoid!

Review of Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen

15 Apr 08, 18:01

Stay away 2*

I think this is London's worst gig venue. The place itself is fine but it's the terrible people that frequent it that's the problem. No matter who plays, it is always full of idiots.

The gig space is in a large square room with a big bar. Outside that there is a room with a very long bar and a food section but I've not eaten there.

Review of The Fitzroy Patisserie

13 Apr 08, 18:18

Not nice 2*

There's plenty of options around here that there's no real need to go to the Fitzroy Patisserie.

It's pretty big but quite old fashioned looking. You can get takeaway or you can eat in. There are hot dishes or you can get sandwiches made in front of you, and there's cakes, but they're not even good!

Booo!

Review of G-A-Y Bar

13 Apr 08, 17:56

Boozey 2*

A really big bar on Old Compton Street. It's run by a big company and so can get you good drink offers but the music is pretty hit and miss and it doesn't really have much soul.

As I say drink prices are very good but if you want a gay bar with nice people inside it I'd head to Trash Palace.

Review of Oasis

12 Apr 08, 04:50

Spend 2*

Oasis is a great high street store when you're looking for something a bit special as it's pretty expensive.

However this Oasis is a bit annoying as because it's in a very office-y area, the clothes it stocks are very office based and they don't have a lot of evening wear which Oasis do really well.

Review of The Litten Tree

11 Apr 08, 02:18

drink 2*

One of the most terrifying pubs I've been in in London. It's got a really rough crowd and this is particularly so at weekends when they have a DJ

A redeeming factor is its 2 for 1 meals at lunchtimes when it becomes full of people who work in the area.

Review of Upper Glas

11 Apr 08, 02:05

It's not gravy 2*

I love Swedish music so I thought I might also like Swedish food.

Now while I love the meatballs, gravy and cranberry Ikea fill me up with, the same at Upper Glas wasn't very good.

Service was quite slow and despite being busy, there wasn't much atmosphere in there.

Stick to Ikea canteens!

Review of Schofields

09 Apr 08, 18:00

Used to be popular 2*

Used to be a really popular bar in the centre of Blackpool but now it's a deadzone. There are two floors and upstairs can be booked out for prviate parties.

The bar is very long and the music is chart based. Drinks are mainly stuff like WKD, VK & bottled beers.

Wouldn't go here unless necessary.

Review of All Bar One

09 Apr 08, 17:44

Drinking in the Square 2*

Not a great all bar one. The location is cool, as you're right on Leicester Square and it's probably the best place on the square to drink but it's not particularly well staffed or filled with the best people.

There's a nice large outdoor area to sit in which is good in the summertime.

Review of Travelodge Bath

09 Apr 08, 17:08

Moderately shonky 2*

A travelodge is a travelodge but the Bath central one was particularly shonky.

It's a great location in the middle of a beautiful town but particularly old fashion. Reception was manned by a scary eastern european lady with blue eyebrows drawn on.

For £69 I expected more, the room was very basic but it also had a big brown hole in the wall.

I wouldn't stay here again.
