food 3*

This takeaway has a wide range of sushi and a selection of hot meals in large dishes. I don't know my sushi so can't comment on that, but I have enjoyed a sweet & sour chicken from there that was nice.

However sometimes the large dishes of food do look somewhat unappetising, so it's a case of being brave.

There are a few seats inside if you want to eat in.

Review of 101 Bar

stay away 3*

This is a pretty gross bar just underneath Centrepoint that often attracts people just because it's pumping out loud music and it's open late.

Cocktails are nice, but the people in there are what lets it down. Fights and scallies.

Shop 4*

Smaller than the Oxford Circus branch, the range in this UO is obviously not as big but is still great. The main difference is the size of the vintage area.

Clothes are of a really high quality, but the price reflects that. The turnaround of styles and designs is also pretty quick.

Review of CellarDoor

20 Apr 08, 18:44

Neat 4*

A disused public toilet has been gutted and transformed into a glitzy underground basement bar.

We went on a Saturday night and it wasn't too busy so it's a good place to start your night if you're in that area and don't want tourists.

Drinks are very expensive though and the music was a tiny bit ropey. They had a playlist system which got taken over by a DJ at about 9.30 but this seemed quite pointless as the DJ was just playing the same music!

Review of Belgo Restaurant

17 Apr 08, 19:11

Yum 4*

I love Belgo's. If you're not inspired and just want good hearty food then it's the place to go.

It's Belgian themed and the staff are randomly dressed in monks robes. There's a huge range of beers and briliant schnapps sticks where you can get up to 48 shots of schnapps in a big line!

Food is mainly meats, and fish. Probably not great if you're a veggie. I love the mussels and the croquettes. The steak is often overcooked though.

idiots 2*

I am convinced the Subways of the West End are staffed by idiots.

Much like the Leicester Square branch, the staff in here have no interest in what they are doing and put little effort into communicating with the customer.

There is a decent sit down area though and it is kept reasonably clean.

Review of World Food Cafe

16 Apr 08, 02:12

yum 3*

A very, very hippy styley vegan restaurant on the 1st floor of a building in the oft missed Neal's Yard.

Food is gorgeous, but pretty pricey. Water is freely avaliable and you pour it yourself into slightly odd metal cups.

We shared a lunch table here with Heath Ledger and it's often frequented by vegtastic celebs.

worthy 3*

Prepare yourself for queues at this insanely popular place but if you feel like meat, stay away! This is veggie cuisine at it's most worthy.

The menu is different all the time and although I've never eaten in I'm led to believe it's nice. It's great for takeaway lunches though and making your work mates feel unhealthy.

Review of Cafe Pacifico

16 Apr 08, 01:48

Eat 3*

Same chain as La Perla, Cafe Pacifico is a large mexican in Covent Garden.

They do really nice cocktails and the strawberry marghetitas are really good. Food wise I always go for the chicken fajitas which are enough to fill me up but not that cheap at about £14.

Not amazing but it's nice enough.

Review of Wahaca

16 Apr 08, 01:45

Carumba 4*

This is a very popular place at the moment in Covent Garden. We went for dinner at 8.30, however were unable to get a table until 9.30. You can't book ahead so be prepared to wait - the man looking after tables did actually seem to know what he was doing though.

Two of us shared the street food dish. It's basically mexican food served in tapas style. I really enjoyed the steak tacos and chicken roles. The nachos and black beans on the side were also great.

A huge mango sorbet for dessert is enough to share between two. And the margarehitas, although small, were lovely.

Review of Bags Bunny

Woo 5*

Bags Bunny is legendary shop amongst locals. After all, the name itself is enough to encourage random passers by to venture inside to see what amazing things they can find.

If you don't love this shop you have no soul.

Review of Capital Radio

15 Apr 08, 19:02

Ace 5*

I used to listen to Capital back in the summer of Des'ree, Spice Girls and Lighthouse Family.

Now I'm listening again and finding it as fun as I did back in the last century. The music is fun and up to date, and they've always got loads of competitions to win and do fun stuff.

My favourite DJ is Lucio. He sounds like a piece of hot totty.

Review of Bens Cookies

13 Apr 08, 18:07

Amazing 4*

I was excited to find a Ben's Cookies in London because I thought it was a Leamington only thing where I first discovered it.

This is in the heart of Covent Garden and is often busy. They've got loads of flavours. I like the chocolate ones est but you can get nutty and fruity ones too.

If you buy 6 you get them cheaper but one cookie alone is about £1.50. They are crunchy on the outside but gooey on the inside. Perfection!

Review of Gordons Wine Bar

11 Apr 08, 01:33

Drink 4*

Walk down some quite steep creaky stairs and you're suddenly in an otherworldly wartime feeling wine bar just by Embankment.

It does get very busy though so you can often feel overwhelmed upon arrival and in summer it gets very hot. However there are plenty of outdoor tables with parasols which is nice.

There's a huge range of wine and it's the only drink on offer. They also have random bits of food like bread and really good cheese.

I would think it would be great for dates. If I ever have one again in my life I shall try out this theory.

Review of Salvador and Amanda

Quite nice 3*

This is a medium sized venue just by Covent Garden. I've not eaten there but it was good to drink in one night. There are quite nice sized booths which is always good.

I'd recommend their sangria which I seem to remember was well priced and pretty alcoholic!

Review of The Retro Bar

11 Apr 08, 01:27

Drink 3*

This is a medium size gay bar down an alley close to Hungerford Bridge, Heaven & Charing Cross station.

It's frequented by a slightly alternative gay crowd, offers a moderately priced bar and regular theme nights. There are two floors.

One of the most popular nights is the Eurovision night held on the 2nd thursday of each month. But beware it's really busy and you often can't get in or have to go upstairs.

Review of The Chandos

10 Apr 08, 02:06

Drink 3*

Very close to Trafalgar & Leicester Square this is a good meeting spot.

It's a Sam Smith's pub so don't expect regular brands just their odd homemade brews! The pub itself is pretty big and full of odd designs. They also serve food till about 10pm.

Review of Freud

Cocktails 4*

This is a great underground cocktail bar that you'd have to know about to go to really. It's down a small metal staircase under a shop at the top of Shaftesbury Avenue.

There's a huge range of cocktails priced at about £6.

I'd advise going weekdays rather than weekend though as it's uncomfortably rammed on friday and saturdays.

Review of Subway

10 Apr 08, 01:36

YUCK 1*

This is the most disgusting and badly serviced Subway I've ever been to.

You know what the food is like, but imagine a franchise that hardly has any stock. They run out of lettuce, tomatos, cheese, everything; never mind the rare times they have all the breads.

The best time was when they ran out of change and expected me to leave them £10.

Awful. Go up the road to the Charing X Road branch instead.

Review of Scotts Sandwich Bar

10 Apr 08, 01:14

Eat me 4*

I was immediately drawn to this place because it looks quite cool from the outside. Service is quick and pleasant but it's pretty expensive, I regard going here for lunch as a treat!

There's a wide range of sandwich, salad and jacket potato options and usually a few hot options like lasagne also.

One of the best sandwiches shops in Covent Garden.

Review of Eds Easy Diner

09 Apr 08, 18:35

MEAT 4*

If you really want to pig out Ed's is great.

The best thing is their milkshakes, the oreo cookie one is to die for (and pretty similar to the TGI one if you've had that).

Choosing your burger and your type of fries separately can add up but generally quick service and tasty food makes it worth it.

Review of Fire and Stone

09 Apr 08, 17:38

Yummy Pizza 5*

Probably my favourite pizza in London, Fire & Stone takes a different slant on pizza.

All the options are named after cities and the toppings represent that city. The base is pretty thick and the toppings pile on. Small potato pieces on a pizza may sound odd but trust us it works. The Canberra is my favourite.

They often have big offers on so it's worth checking their website or toptable.

Review of Rossopomodoro Covent Garden

09 Apr 08, 17:36

New Pizza in Covent Garden 3*

This is a small chain around London and they recently opened in Covent Garden.

It's a large two floor restaurant and when I went on Friday night at 9.30 pm it was very full.

I wasn't that keen on it though, the menus were full of interesting sounding toppings but upon arrival we were all a bit disappointed. My 4 cheese pizza was like a giant boat of cheese!

Review of Tossed

09 Apr 08, 17:19

Saladtastic 4*

A touch of health in a zone of food disasters. There's not many nice places to eat around leicester square.

Pick your base from cos, brown rice, cous cous and mixed leaves then select either a house salad or design your own.

There's also sandwiches, soups, stews, jacket potatoes avaliable and they do great smoothies. I particularly enjoy the strawberry surprise & chicken caesar salad.

Review of The Garrick Arms

09 Apr 08, 17:14

Not Great 3*

Often smelling of sick, this is located just behind Leicester Square.

There's a wide range of drinks on offer from ale, cider, WKD and really sweet, but nice Rose Wine. They also have Ocean Spray Cranberry in a can which is quite unusual.

Go only through necessity.
