Booze 4*

This is a pretty swanky looking venue about 10 minutes walk from Old Street. It's got gorgeous lighting and a great layout with two floors and lots of bars.

Cocktails were lovely although expensive but the bars were stocked with all the upmarket spirits and enough staff to not leave you waiting for ages.

Dance 3*

This is a pretty small club in the basement of a building on Curtain Road in the heart of Shoreditch.

It's quite hot down there as it is a basement. It has some really good club nights but drinks aren't cheap and there are lots of people completely off their faces.

Nights differ wildly so make sure you've checked the listings before going down.

Review of Shish Restaurant

Rank 2*

One of a small chain of restaurants. Located just off Hoxton Square the food is pretty cheap for the area, but I've never really enjoyed it.

I've had a chicken wrap kebah thing both times and the chicken has always been very fatty and not very tasty. On the other hand the cocktails are nice.

Wouldn't go again.

Review of Hoxton Furnace

Great 4*

The pizzas here are really great. Probably the best in the area.

They're cooked in a stone fire, so you get that great crispy base that lots of other people can't do that well. The toppings are always piled on and taste fresh.

A more exciting option than Pizza Express for another night.

Review of Hoxton Square Bar and Kitchen

Stay away 2*

I think this is London's worst gig venue. The place itself is fine but it's the terrible people that frequent it that's the problem. No matter who plays, it is always full of idiots.

The gig space is in a large square room with a big bar. Outside that there is a room with a very long bar and a food section but I've not eaten there.

Review of The Diner

Yum 4*

This is a great American diner in Shoreditch which stays open quite late.

Breakfast is very good, you can get pancake based things or normal sausage and egg stuff. The burgers are also very yummy. They're massive and filled to the brink with stuff.

Seats are in the booth style which always adds to the fun.

Review of Argos

Catalogues 3*

This is a moderately large argos but it's in a bit of an annoying location.

If you're on the bus, it's fine - there is a bus stop right outside. However if you have something heavy and need a car, then be warned, it's just inside the congestion zone and there isn't even anywhere nearby to go and park.

If you're in need to drive & park I'd suggest using Argos Holloway Road instead.

Review of Charlie Wrights

Dance dance 4*

It claims to be an international jazz bar but I know it more as a late night drinking den.

It's quite edgy, you don't know what to expect. The crowd are a mixture of old east end and normals who wander in. They're open till about 4am Thursday - Sat and have a very random DJ who just plays whatever random R&B he fancies from the 90s. They do also have jazz bands on during the week which are fun. It's normally £4 late in.

Review of The Eagle

Yum 4*

This is a great pub about 5 minutes walk from Old Street station and on the edge of Hoxton. Tends to be a bit of a media crowd, but more normal than idiot people

Wide range of ciders and beers as well as normal drinks. Large outdoor space out back with heaters, people often also drink outside the front.

Food is nice. I like the big pie and the burger with maris piper chips.

Review of Benugo

10 Apr 08, 01:15

PIE 4*

Not a cheap option for lunch but a reliable one. This is quite a large benugo cafe with seating inside and out.

Select a sandwich which is premade or the servers can make it in front of you. I particularly recommend the pies - there's normally a veggie and meat option. Get it with lashings of gravy, mash and ketchup and be the envy of your workmates!
