Pleasant and pleasing
This cute little tapas bar seems rather cast adrift in the residential jungle of its location, but is well worth a visit.
It's an extremely informal place, ideal for a post-work glass of red or frosty beer. The staff are all wonderfully amiable and down-to-earth, reflecting the relaxed attitude of the tapas eating and drinking environment.
The tapas itself is good; not the best I've tasted but also nowhere near the worst. The menu is extensive enough without the scatter-gun approach of some. The tortilla needs a bit more onion and less potato, but the anchovies were lovely. Try it. You might like it.

Sexy.
The main thing that attracts me here week after week is the unique and pungent odour of urine that permeates every inch of the building (except, bizarrely, the actual toilets).
It really burns the nostrils, and provides a perfect backdrop to a boozer heaving with rough and ready pub cliches: dodgy blokes selling knocked-off items? Check. Beer stained pool table? Check. An incredible array of nuts, crisps and scratchings? Oh yes.
The beer is cheap, and tastes it. They used to have Sky Sports, until it was taken away to save money. Then they lost their two massive TVs to debt collecters. I can honestly say this is the best pub in London to watch the BBC's football coverage on a portable television chained to a shelf.
Quiz machines, wizened locals and a jukebox add to the ambience. There's a pub up the road called The Pineapple which has great food, lovely beer, is often busy and doesn't smell of wee. Ponces. Go here instead.

A belly filler.
Most reviews thus far have dwelt on the delights of the Thai food in this place. I can wholly recommend the remainder of the menu, however - having tried most of it I can happily report it rarely disappoints.
Beer is served too, which is nice. Stars lost for lacking a bit on atmosphere, being full of people from Clapham and occasionally being a bit "meh".
Solid.

Sublime
Quality pizza places are ten-a-penny on most High Streets, but if you dwell often on the means streets of C-Common, then be sure to check out this place.
Inexpensive, adventurous, tasty. All three apply. This really is a place where I've never been disappointed.
The mushroom and cheese calzone is particularly good, and this is from a man who likes as much meat as possible piled onto his plate. Go. Go soon.

A hidden pearl.
Delectable and delightful. Not two words that trip from my pencil-drawn lips often, but both adequate desciptions of the small and perfectly formed tapas restaurant.
Now let's get one thing straight; Meson Don Felipe is the better known, better located tapas restaurant of the area. Don't be tempted to stray - a short walk here will never be a regret.
As it's a tapas restaurant, a protracted explanation of all the dishes is probably a little long-winded. Go for the pimento and anchovies would be two mere pieces of advice.

Review of The Garrick Arms

Perfection. In a pub. And pint. And other words beginning P.
'The Garrick' pub reminds me somewhat of a lazy sexual encounter with a loved one on a sunny Sunday morning: laid-back, familiar, musty.
I have frequented this dear boozer only two or three hundred times over the last four years, and each time I have left feeling pleasingly soiled.
Amidst a soundtrack of banging Euro-techcore on a Friday night, some of the brightest media minds converge to create an ambience that is unrivalled in the area. There's nothing like a pub that generates great discourse and banter from within its very core. And 'The Garrick' is nothing like said pub.
I ruddy love it. So will you.
