Review of Rios Leeds
05 Nov 07, 15:12
So far below potential
Relocated from Bradford, Rio's has the potential to be the best music venue in Leeds. The 1,600 capacity club, split into three rooms, is essentially a bigger and better version of The Cockpit, but is still somehow strangely flawed. Like the downstairs room with a big beam in the way of the stage, for example. Or the PA rig upstairs in the main room that seems to be brilliant one day and oddly weak the next. Or the fact that, for some reason, it seems to limit itself almost solely to has-been metal acts. It looks great, it feels great, and it will be great - one day. For now, it's got some work to do. I really hope it does it.

Review of Tropical World
05 Nov 07, 15:03
Top tourist attraction
Tropical World is, absolutely, without a shadow of a doubt, Leeds' finest tourest attraction. Incredibly authentic, Tropical World takes the visitor on a journey around the equator, through desert and rainforest and back round to the start, witnessing some of the most amazing wildlife on Earth. Particularly suited to families with young, inquisitive children, but a whole lot of fun for people of any age, Tropical World is a must-visit location in Leeds.

Review of Radish

Charming
Radish is a brilliant family-run business based in Chapel Allerton, just outside Leeds. It specialises in both books, and Fairtrade goods from around the world. Unassuming enough from the outside, the shop actually stretches back across two decent-sized rooms, and has a real, distinct charm to it. If you're in the area, particularly if you're a part of the Chapel A community, you simply must pop in and say hello to the friendly and hard-working staff. Buy something while you're there, too, like.

Review of Crash Records
05 Nov 07, 13:51
Brilliant indie store
Some bright yellow signage signals one of the best independent record stores in the city. Stockists of anything from major label artists to some teenager's CD he made in his bedroom, Crash are always open-minded, welcoming and helpful. Concert tickets can also be purchased here for some of the lowest prices around. Well worth a visit for the music fan.

Review of Little Tokyo
05 Nov 07, 13:46
Eastern Magic
An unassuming little spot near the Corn Exchange, with blacked out windows and a worryingly tacky-looking sign, Little Tokyo is in fact a gem of a restaurant. Serving traditional Japanese food with a slight Western edge, at low wooden tables in beautifully-themed rooms (complete with a bridge over a pond - and for rather reasonable prices - Little Tokyo is perfect for a number of occasions, from romantic dates to business lunches. Meals range from around £15 to £50 per person, depending on your taste and budget.

Review of Faversham
05 Nov 07, 13:41
Haircuts
Hidden away between the university and a large district of student housing is a rather trendy pub/bar/club combo called The Faversham. Serving food in the daytime, drinks on an evening, before closing and reopening later on as a very trendy nightclub, the Fav (as it's known to locals) is populated largely by students and young trendies with Russell Brand hairdos. Still, the image is irrelevant when the venue is host to some of the best nights in the area. Well worth a visit, despite the pricey bar.
