Review of Chi Chi Ra Ra

Hoorah for ChiChiRaRa! 5*

This place is a real find - one of a kind, just like the pieces you'll find there. The lady who runs it, Heather, is effortlessly helpful (and chic), and you are guaranteed to spot something you like. The stock changes regularly, and your best bet if you see something suitable is to snap it up, as it won't be there next time.

I've found a few great dresses in there, from a vintage MaxMara sundress for £15 to a French Connection sample dress for £20, which I saw in stores for £60 two months later!

Next time you're in the area, pop in. This place offers a great way to spend a Saturday afternoon trawling for original, funky clothes that won't break the bank.

Review of Le Chardon

Comme ci, comme ca 2*

Do you know what? I had been wanting to try this place for aaaaaages. I had heard it was expensive, but worth it. It's a little piece of history on Lordship Lane, and sits on the site of a former grocers which must have been there since the 1930s or before. The restaurant retains many intersting original features, and physically stands out amongst some of the newer establishments on the same street.

However, the staff are less than friendly, there are far too many tables crammed into a small space, and the food, although genuinely lovely, does not account for the other shortcomings. I had a tasty lunch there but the experience as a whole left a lot to be desired.

Review of Sema Thai

You can find better Thai food in East Dulwich 3*

We went here for the second time last night, and I have to say I was not overwhelmed by anything about the food or the service. There is one really smiley, sweet waiter who is very efficient, but otherwise there is nothing remarkable about this restaurant other than their impressive fishtank.

It's passable, sure, and the food is good... just not great. After a sizeable wait, of about 25 minutes, you expect excellence. Our Tom Yum soup was acidic and not fiery enough, the Pad Thai somewhat anaemic, and Pad See Eaw distinctly lacking in variety of ingredients. However, starters tend to be very good, even if a bit deep-fried, and my pork and prawn dumplings were very tasty.

Thai Corner Cafe, around the corner on North Cross Road, defintiely has the edge over Sema Thai. It's still a good option, though, and if you're on Lordship Lane and feeling peckish, you could do much worse.

Review of East Dulwich Dental Care

Smile! 4*

I just moved to the area recently and was dreading finding a dentist, but when my gums became sore I knew I had to bite the bullet, so to speak, and was extremely surprised to find this dentist (listed on the NHS website as accepting NHS patients) was so nearby, was actually accepting new NHS patients, and wasn't charging an arm and a leg for their private care. Regular NHS checkups there will cost you less than £16. My dentist was really friendly, very efficient, and told me that all of the damage I'd inflicted on my gums over the last 6 years (that's how long it had been since my last visit) was completely reversible. I can't promise the same fate for your teeth, but I left the place smiling.

Best thing about where I live The shops and cafes on North Cross Road. The fact that East Dulwich does not tolerate large shop chains. The cheap-as-chips Mondays at the Peckham Multiplex. Oh, and Dulwich Park.
Worst thing about where I live The state of the floors at Peckham Rye station. Really guys, sort it out. Um, and welovelocal people? I don't live in Nunhead!
