Review of Dalston Lane Cafe

Reliable in quality
This is a really nice cafe, whilst pricier than some this is reflected in the quality. The staff are usually very pleasant and the service good. I would recommend the corn beef hash with egg or an omelette. There is usually a good supply of Sunday papers too. This cafe has been a godsend on many hungover weekends.

Disappointing
The food here is alright, but the staff are really miserable and they serve crap, limp toast. I think it used to be better but has changed management, not sure as the menu has stayed exactly the same. It's alright but there are better cafes in the area. Also I find it a bit overpriced.

BEST PUB EVER!
This pub makes me very sad to not live anywhere near Liverpool. They make all their own ales on site, and very nice they are too. There is also a very wide selection of cheap and nice food, including pies and stews which was very much appreciated on a freezing and wet January night. The building is lovely, with four different rooms, nice bar staff, good clientele. Thoroughly recommended.

Potential
When I was younger this pub looked amazing, it used to be full of punks and biker gangs. However, after a long time empty it has been opened devoid of any soul. The space obviously has a lot of potential but whoever has decorated it has no idea what they're doing and is obsessed with selling quirky ales. Recently they seem to have at least dimmed the lights which has made it bearable for us to go there and reduced the youth club feeling. The beers/ales are really good but as they're always changing it makes going to the bar very confusing and long winded. If they repainted the inside a nicer colour and removed all the wonky clutter on the walls I would probably go here several times a week.

Review of Somine Restaurant

Confusing
The food here is really nice, and cheap, and they give you free olives and bread. You never know what they will have, usually about five random dishes from the menu. However, the staff are really rude and stand offish. The second time we went the waiter pretended he couldn't speak English, even though we recognised him and he did the first time we went... this was very bewildering and made us feel very uncomfortable. As there are many Turkish places nearby where the staff are nice and not mad we won't be going back.

Review of El Panchos Mexican Restaurant

Good and cheap
We went here just before 5 on a Sunday, meaning they let us have the lunch menu which is £6.95 for 3 courses and some of our cocktails were half price. The food was really nice and plentiful and the cocktails brilliant. The staff are really lovely and enthusiastic, although I suspect this may change when they get fed up of pretending to be Mexican all the time. Lovely evening!

Just awful
This place wasn't cheap and the food was awful. Overcooked, bland (not sure how you even manage to make Mexican food bland). Service was bad and they tried to overcharge us. Portions were small even of the cheap things like refried beans and cabbage. Some people near us complained, wish we had as well but just wanted to leave and try to rescue our evening. AVOID!

Lovely pub
This pub has a lovely atmosphere, they have a live band and sometimes people from the audience join in, with surprisingly good results. They have raffles and darts tournaments and for some reason both times I've been they have been giving out food! This is a proper east end pub, we even saw a man come in with a basket of seafood and sell people prawns and cockles in little styrofoam cups.

Amazing
The best west indian food at least in East London! Everything I have tried has been lovely especially the jerk or stew chicken and patties. Only problem can be the queue as it is so popular, but I believe you can phone ahead with your order. Have never been that organised. Note that they have in fact moved to the beginning of Balls Pond Road.

Thumbs up
The food is very good and the staff are lovely. Very quick efficient service and charming decor. I would recommend the mixed meze and moussaka!
