Review of Butler and Wilson

06 May 07, 18:05

All that glitters... might in fact be cubic zirconia... 4*

Kings of Costume Jewellery, Butler & Wilson is a treasure trove of sparkly gems and trinkets. What I love about this place is the mixture of exquisite pieces and borderline tasteless tat. There is everything from delicate, vintage inspired earrings to over the top printed, embellished handbags. Great for buying gifts for younger sister's birthdays etc. Upstairs there is a vintage clothes section. Very expensive but the pieces are beautiful , I'm particularly impressed with the collection of 20's beaded dresses, to die for. It's all very well kept so it has a boutique feel rather than the usual jumble sale atmosphere of most vintage stores. If you do nothing else, check out their fabulous window displays. They change them every 5 minutes and they are always spectacular and inspiring.

Review of Joy

Quirky Gimmicky Fun 5*

Joy is a weird mix of novelty stuff and nice clothes. The cards are great, retro fabulous and the selection of gifty things are great fun. Sometimes the clothes are a bit random, but it's nice to see something with a bit of personality.

Review of Wilton Arms

Country Pub...in town 4*

Just round the corner from the Berkeley, in a tiny, beautiful mews you would never know was there lies a small pub with a lot of character. Summer evenings out on the cobbled streets are perfect, you could almost be in the provinces it's so quiet and secluded. There are in fact a few odd shops worth having a nose in here, an antiques place and some other niche things worth checking out. This pub feels very very British, good place to bring friends from overseas-.they'll think they've died and gone to heaven. Remember it may be a mews but there is still traffic there occasionally , don't have a few too many and get run over by a passing Bentley. That would be embarrassing.

Review of Kurt Geiger

Great Heels 5*

Kurt Geiger do great "proper" heels. Tall, thin and perfectly formed. The top end of the high street in terms of price, but also in terms of design. Designs are always on season (unlike, say LK Bennett) so the shoes tend to be more directional than their competitors.
