Review of Eight Over Eight

12 Dec 07, 10:10

Lovely atmosphere, great cocktails 4*

Had a pre yuletide supper with some of my favourite people at Eight over Eight last night. I've previously only frequented the bar which can be overcrowded and a bit stressful. The restaurant experience is quite the opposite, great relaxed service, lovely bustling atmosphere and the menu was ecclectic and delicious. Great cocktails, lovely ambient lighting. Small but perfectly formed.

Great Lunch Venue 4*

This is a great venue for a business weekday lunch. I recently had lunch here with a bunch of lovely people and the food was de-licious! Super attentive service. Beautiful Ramsey food. Lovely wine. Can have quite a stuffy atmosphere, so make sure you take the right crowd.

Review of Haunch Of Venison

02 Nov 07, 16:47

Good pub food 3*

The Haunch of Venison is a good pub in Salisbury (which is overpopulated on the pub front). It has a nice restaurant section upstairs where the food is a bit more sophisticated than your average "pub grub". It's got a nice atmosphere and if you sit on the right side, a really pretty view over the church yard. It's right in the centre of town (opposite the landmark Poultry Cross) so good for tourists as it's nice and easy to find. Prices reasonable and they do cocktails also!

Review of The Admiral Codrington

Great Public House 4*

I always forget how much I love this pub. The food in the back dining room is excellent and the atmosphere throughout is warm and friendly. There's a great mix of young n' old people. The front pub area feels like a real London Pub while the dining room has a more contemporary feel. The glass roof pulls back in the summer so it's like eating inside and outside all at the same time. Tucked away in the back streets of South Ken, it's a gem.

Review of The Alma

Nice Gastro Pub 4*

Beautiful little pub. Lovely private dining room upstairs. Corner position means it's light and sunny throughout the pub. Feels very London. Perfect for those sundays when you want a nice lunch followed by a stroll and a look in some random boutiquey shops - the street the Alma's on feels quite villagey and it's very pretty.

Review of Bluebird Restaurant and Bar

10 Oct 07, 15:31

MICE 1*

Bluebird has recently been refurbished. My friends and I were keen to revist and check it out. The refit is lovely, very stylish and the atmosphere feels a lot buzzier than before. The space is less cavernous. We had a lovely evening, several cocktails, several bottles of champagne and lovely food. Until... we saw a mouse run across the dining room floor. And then another! Resisting the temptation to scream and stand on our chairs, we complained politely to our waiter who said "Oh yeah, other people have seen them too". When we spoke to the manager he apologised and offered us a measly 20% off our bill. The next day it occured to me quite how pathetic that response was and I wrote an email complaining. I have had no response to that written complaint. I assume they still have mice. Not the ideal dining companions if you ask me.

Review of Browns Bride

10 Oct 07, 15:25

Good selection, patchy service 2*

Buying a wedding dress is stressful and I found the Browns experience particularly stress inducing. I didn't feel listened to, or appreciated as a customer (despite spending several thousand pounds on a dress). If you want to wear certain designers, you don't have much choice but I have to say I wouldn't recommend the store otherwise. Sorry.

Review of Snappy Snaps

Take back everything I said previously 1*

These guys are cowboys. I spent over £80 for prints that were grey and washed out (skin tones were corpse like). When I complained, the man behind the counter was rude, obnoxious and frankly threatening. Avoid.

Review of Urban Retreat

Amie Wilson - great colourist 5*

When I'm feeling rich, or if I have stolen money from my husband recently, I get my colour done by Amie Wilson @ Urban Retreat. She is excellent, extremely talented and great fun. The Urban Retreat is always incredibly busy, but they are a relatively slick operation. When you book they send you txt reminders about your appt. 24 hours before. It's expensive, but you know you are in safe hands.

Review of Hummingbird Bakery

10 Oct 07, 15:06

Heaven is a cupcake. 4*

I love the Hummingbird Bakery. And I'm not even a cupcake fan particularly.

This bakery sell cakes, muffins and other gorgeous tea time treats. The packaging is modern and stylish. The staff are friendly and upbeat.

Individual cupcakes are expensive, but they are the best you'll have tasted since childhood.
