Review of Donatello

17 Apr 08, 13:56

The best value for money Brighton has to offer! 4*

This old-established Italian favourite in Brighton just rolls on and on, as successful as when it started. Situated in the heart of Brighton's famous Lanes, Donatello is an Italian restaurant frequented by me, locals, visitors and celebrities alike!

Not 4 star food, but for the price you cannot go wrong... It probably costs more to park in Brighton than to dine here!

Review of Browns

17 Apr 08, 13:52

Eveything you'd expect from Browns, plus more! 3*

Apparently This was the first Browns and opened in 1973 with one simple guiding belief, that classic food, well delivered in a stylish environment would be a recipe for success! (I got that from the menu!) The only thing that has changed since then is the number of Browns, now running at fourteen, of which six are in London, all prospering with the same theme... However, being the original, this one is definately the best, and well worh a visit.

Good points: Can't go wrong!

Bad points: May be let down by the other restaurants parading with the same name!

Review of Fox Inn

17 Apr 08, 13:48

A lovely taste of Sussex! 4*

"Sussex, good old Sussex by the Sea" says the song, and at this enterprising gastropub only thirty miles from the sea, they have one of the most interesting seafood cuisines to be found in the Southern Counties of England, The Fox Inn is open for food seven days a week, serving until 10 pm, or later if you ask niceley!!

Good Points: Take the parents, nice chilled out atmosphere!

Bad Points: Slightly tucked out of the way, but worth the drive!

Review of Al Duomo

17 Apr 08, 13:44

Brilliantly Italian! 3*

A cool contemporary Italian restaurant and venue with brown, red, and cream colour scheme, lots of exposed brickwork and sleek leather sofas in the bar area for drinks, lounging or coffee. Al Duomo is next door to the Royal Pavilion and centrally located to the main shops, hotels, theatre and Dome complex.

Great for lunch!

Review of Gingerman At Drakes Restaurant

17 Apr 08, 13:36

Surprisingly Affordable! 4*

I love it here, having been to The Gingerman at Drakes, Brighton many times it is refreshing to have a new vibe for the renowned food that the Gingerman offers. I had the a la carte lunch menu which was very nicely presented, well cooked and boasted the trademark great sauces that the Gingerman restaurants do so well. Superb value for money with 2 courses and wine costing me only £20!! I will definitely be back!

Good Points: Staff, Wine List, Service, Presentation, Sauces

Bad Points: None

Review of Trenchers Restaurant

17 Apr 08, 13:16

Upmarket, a great place for Worthing! 3*

An exciting and upmarket restaurant in the heart of Worthing.

One venue - two restaurants. Fine dining in the main Restaurant, great value in the Brasserie. The emphasis is on the freshest of ingredients, prepared with skill and served with care

Good points: Food, yum!

Bad points: maybe not as upmarket as they'd like you to believe (They let me in!), but lovely all the same.

Review of Woodies Longboard Diner

15 Apr 08, 23:08

Everything an American Diner should be, and more! 4*

Within a stone's throw of the homes and private beaches of the rich and famous in Hove is a very authentic-looking American Diner and surf shop. It sells boards, beach sandals, you name it. The waves in Hove are not exactly Waikiki standard but this place seems to do a good trade. Next door is Woodies Diner, a self consciously Americanoid establishment with waitresses dressed in american 50's outfits, and a checkerboard floor and squeaky glittery plastic seats... fantastic!

Good Points: Best American diner locally.

Bad Points: Can be on the pricey side, VERY busy at busy periods, and no table booking is possible.

Review of The Ram Inn

15 Apr 08, 23:01

A lovely pub, tucked away with great classic sussex pub atmosphere. 4*

Three friends and I visited The Ram at Firle on Saturday for lunch.

The "new management" are delightful people and the food was truly excellent - beautifully cooked and presented and lots of it. We started with grilled sardines in lemon oil, three large ones per portion, served with chiabatta and dipping oils and the grilled halumi and asparagus was a success too. We all had the home cooked ham hock with new potatoes, which was stunning. The meal came to £55 for 4, excluding drinks - good wine list. No plastic menus, helpful and pleasant staff. We sat in the shady garden to eat and had our coffee inside sitting in comfy wing chairs

A true, friendly, Sussex Pub.

Good Points: Amazing place to relax, and enjoy great food.

Bad Points: none.

Review of Lewes Leisure Centre

15 Apr 08, 22:46

The best pool from Wave Leisure, with a great gym too! 4*

A bright, clean, leisure centre with great pool and brand new gym.

Today I joined the Wave Leisure group on a monthly membership scheme, mainly to use the Downs Leisure centre, but this is the nicest pool locally, included in that membership.

Staff are friendly and facillities spot on.

Lots of extras are available, gym classes, swimming lessons / pool aerobics and loads for the kids too

Good Points: One of the best leisure centres from Wave Leisure.

Bad Points: Busy periods.

Review of Seahaven Pool & Gym

15 Apr 08, 22:39

Not the best of the centres available from the Wave Lesiure group. 3*

Seahaven pool and fitness centre (as it's now called) certainly plays its part well for the community, offering a good size pool, and small gym.

I have to say however, that whenever I have been to this pool, although clean, with friendly staff, I just find it a bit "dingy".

It is definately worth the drive to use the much nicer, more modern Lewes Leisure Centre for the pool, or the Downs Leisure Centre for their new gym. (Both part of the same group)

Good Points: Local, cheap, does it's job.

Bad Points: Not the best pool or gym within 10 minutes driving distance.
