Review of Piccolo Diavolo

Cute and cosy 4*

A very cute restaurant, which is much bigger than it looks. Bottles hang in baskets from the ceiling, the tables are cosily close, and the Italian staff are always happy to help. The decorations add to the feel of the place, and the wall near the door covered in notes of different currencies is a nice touch.

Good food and good atmosphere, and very well located - a nice place to have a meal.

Review of H and M

Usual H&M quality 3*

Although not the busiest H&M I've visited, this one comes close. Providing you know what you're doing, it's relatively easy to beat the crowds, and in this case the stock is quite well looked after.

There's a good selection of clothes and accessories, all at reasonable prices, just be sure not to go on a saturday afternoon.

Review of All Nite

Not bad at all 3*

Whenever I come to this shop, I always find something new and foreign to tempt me.

It's friendlier than most corner shops I've been to, and with a large selection of every type of food, you can easily find something basic in many different styles.

Although we once had trouble finding orange squash, it's a convenient little place and is good to stop by and pick up some groceries.

Review of The British Museum

23 Jul 07, 14:27

Impressive architecture & displays 4*

I wasn't expecting much from this museum, but I was pleasantly surprised. The sheer range of exhibitions is very impressive, as most museums I've been to usually concentrate on one particular stage in history.

It would be easy to spend a whole day there, as there is so much to see. The main hall itself is amazing and it's easy to navigate as well.

However, expect to run into a few school trips while you're there - most of the cafe seating areas were taken up by schools, and some exhibitions were difficult to get through due to the children getting in the way.

Also the main exhibition which I was interested in seeing was seperate from the rest of the museum - you had to pay to get in, but it was closed anyway.

Even so, it was a nice day out, and I'd like to go back when there are new exhibitions.

PS. I found some mummies in the Egyptian section - cool!

Review of The White Swan

23 Jul 07, 14:14

Generic, but worth it 3*

Exactly as you'd expect for a Wetherspoon place. Crowded but with plenty of room to fit more people in, we found a table in the back corner that was relatively quieter that the center.

The food came promptly, we ate, then we left. Just as every other Wetherspoons, the offers and selection of food and drink were well-rounded and well-priced, but the place itself was generic and boring.

Good for students and anyone looking for a nicely situated pub, but uninteresting.

Review of The American Steak House

23 Jul 07, 14:02

Well situated, but a bit dull 2*

As this is right opposite Victoria Station, it seemed perfect for a meal before catching a train.

We arrived in plenty of time, expecting it to take a bit longer than usual as steaks do take a long time, but we still had to cut the stay short as the service was very slow and we spent much of the evening being ignored.

The food itself was well cooked, but unfortunately we didn't stay for dessert. Next time we'll pick the restaurant next door instead.

Review of Cineworld West India Quay

23 Jul 07, 13:53

Hidden away, but still good 3*

Tucked out of the way and a good half hour journey, this is the closest Cineworld cinema we could find that wasn't included as a West End establishment.

The prices here seem normal, although I own a Cineworld pass so I didn't look too closely. The snacks are as expensive as you'd expect for a cinema in London, but there is a nice little bar located on one of the middle floors where you can relax for a bit before or after seeing a film.

In spite of the remote location, it's a good cinema.

Review of Bierodrome

23 Jul 07, 13:41

Fun and friendly 4*

After returning from Belgium with a taste for flavoured beers, we found this place to satisfy my thirst, as it were.

The bar serves some of the best fruitbeers like cherry, coconut and banana - which was the main reason for my visiting. However, we stayed for a meal too, which turned out to be a good choice - the food was very nice and the service came with a smile.

The only problem was a mix up with the bill, due to the food area having a different tab system to the bar area, but this was dealt with smoothly.

A nice night, with a sufficiently foreign flare.

Review of Vue

Nothing extraordinary 3*

Although the prices seemed quite high for a cinema NOT located in the West End, there is little to complain about in this cinema.

The staff were friendly and there was no litter in sight, which should be the case in all cinemas, but there was nothing that stood out about this one to make me specifically want to return.

It was, however, fairly surprising to find that it consists of 9 screens, seeing as the entire surrounding area is taken up with shops, but this was marred by the fact that when we visited it was extremely crowded and therefore difficult to find a seat.

A decent cinema, nicely located, but nothing special.

Review of Archipelago

Delicious Dishes! 5*

The very first thing that strikes you as you enter the restaurant is the decor - the walls are covered with worldly paraphenalia that extends to the furniture and even the menus. After admiring the atmosphere, you get down to the food. Since our party was quite large, everyone ordered something different and exchanged pieces of food here and there to try a bit of everything - the crocodile wrapped in vine leaves was a favourite among us all, followed closely by kangaroo. Some of the main course dishes were conveniently smaller than others, allowing you to leave room for dessert - something which cannot be passed up when the menu consists of a chocolate covered scorpion! The 'Visit from the Doctor' was a good laugh as this consisted of alcoholic alchemy and even some predictions for the future. Every dish was cooked and presented to perfection. From the chunky wooden serving plates to the chopsticks delicately tied together with lime peel, every aesthetic and practical need was carefully catered for. The experience was enjoyed by the whole party, and I will certainly be returning!
