Review of The Big Chill House

29 Apr 08, 09:43

cool bar, slow service 3*

I had high expectations when I first went to the Big Chill House as my friends were shouting about it how cool it was. Have to agree that it is a pretty cool bar with split level, a roof terrace and good music. But be prepared to wait at the bar. It seemed to me that the bar staff didn’t know anything about serving drinks. I got so annoyed by the end of the evening that I stopped buying drinks. I would rate this place higher but the service is a bit of a downer.

Review of The Phoenix

your average everyday pub 3*

I have come here a couple of times and can’t say anything really bad or good about it. It’s got a nice pub area with lots of comfy sofas and arm chairs. You could spend a whole rainy Sunday here, sipping red wine, reading the papers or meeting your friends. They have a nice restaurant area in the back. Not a massive fan of the food though to be honest. I find it a bit overpriced for the quality you get in the end but that’s probably Chelsea for you.

Review of All Bar One

18 Apr 08, 14:30

not all that bad 3*

I know that All Bar One doesn’t have the best reputation ever, especially the one in Leicester Square. But after all: they have an outside space on the Square which makes up for the slow staff (be prepared to wait for at least 20 min until you get served) and changing quality of food. But if you are lucky and get a seat outside you probably don’t mind waiting for your orders for a little while.

Review of Browns

18 Apr 08, 14:22

can’t make anything wrong with this place! 3*

Browns is probably one of the more classier and a bit pricier places around Leicester Square. But the inside decor is great and very tasteful. The place is perfect for work lunches, pre-theatre dinners or cocktails after work. I quite like coming here, it makes a nice change to the usual trip to pub after work.

Review of The Porterhouse

a pub maze 3*

This place is massive. Every time I go there I seem to be finding new floors, bars, tables etc. It’s got a great atmosphere but can get really busy on the weekend so better go there during the week. They have an amazing choice of beer so the perfect place for any beer lovers!

Review of Bavarian Beerhouse

Vodka Ahoi…and other German customs 3*

This place is great for a work do or for just going out with friends. The place has a Bavarian theme to it, you’ll get greeted by girls in dirndls and get to listen to the latest German folk music. This might sound not appealing at all but is actually great fun. The menu offers lots of German specialities, just make sure you finish your meal off with a Vodka Ahoi!

Review of Strada

17 Apr 08, 11:20

pizza and pasta heaven 3*

Though Strada is one of the many pizza chain places around the country it’s still my number one choice when it comes to going somewhere for an Italian meal. I love their pasta dishes, all the ingredients taste fresh and just like in a little restaurant when you are on holiday in Italy. The staff is always really friendly and the price for a meal pretty much average for London.

Review of The Garrick Arms

16 Apr 08, 16:41

my work local…what can I say? 3*

I really don’t know why we spend so much time in this pub. Drinks are expensive, staff is usually slow and grumpy, the food isn’t great either. However, I have to admit that I’ve had some great nights in this pub and will probably keep going there for a bit longer as it’s the only rather decent pub around where I work.

Review of White Horse

16 Apr 08, 16:35

best local around 3*

The White Horse on the High Street is probably the only nice place to go to on the weekend if you don’t want to hit the bigger party scene in Guildford. It’s got great food, definitely worth checking out on Sunday lunchtime. It gets pretty busy on Friday and Saturday night so be there early if you want get one of the big sofas.

Review of The Fence

16 Apr 08, 16:21

cool work local 3*

The Fence is probably one of my favourite pubs in Farringdon. It’s got quite a big outdoor space that fills up quickly in summer so be there early, especially on a Friday afternoon. I like the stylish interior with nice sofas and big armchairs. They’ve got great food, probably better then the usual pub food you get in other places.

Review of The Blue Room

16 Apr 08, 16:11

rollerblading for beginners 3*

The Blue Room by Marble Arch is perfect for hiring rollerblades for the day. The staff is really friendly and will help you to pick the right size and rollerblade type for you. Hyde Park is just around the corner and perfect for practising if you are a first-time skater. The skates you can hire aren’t the latest models and some of them look a bit worn out. But the wheels are in good condition and will be fine if you are a beginner and just want to try it out. They’ve also got a great choice of new rollerblades and skateboards for those who want to buy their own pair.

Review of Smoke Bar Diner

11 Apr 08, 08:29

nice local bar in Tooting 3*

As Tooting is better known for its curry places and random pubs it’s difficult to find a nice local bar. The Smoke Bar is great for going out for drinks if you live in the area and don’t want to head to Clapham or even central London. They’ve got the usual choice of beers and wines but also great cocktails. It never really gets busy during the week but fills up quickly on the weekend.

Review of Lamb and Flag

11 Apr 08, 08:26

nice work local 3*

The Lamb and Flag is a little traditional pub between Covent Garden and Leicester Square. I guess it’s one of the very random pubs in this area that is not part of a chain or a busy touristy place. It’s especially nice in summer where you can stand outside the pub and sip your G&T. The inside is pretty old fashioned and the last redecoration was probably at least 10 years ago. Nevertheless it’s a little charming traditional pub in central London always worth a visit in summer, especially if you work in the area.

Review of Ruby Lounge

11 Apr 08, 08:24

nice bar to kick off a night out 3*

This little bar is on Caledonian Road close to Kings Cross station. It’s got a cool layout with a round bar in the middle. The usually play loud electro music in the evening which probably isn’t everybody’s cup of tea. They’ve got great cocktails served by friendly staff that will even invite you to have a tequila shot on the house. Great place to kick off a big night out.
