Review of The Frog in the Bedford

So much potential... 2*

This pub lies dead opposite the Wilton Arms, which is the pub I used to live and work in...

I used to go to this pub when the Wilton got too much, or for a little change of scenery...

This place has so much potential but doesn't seem to be fulfilling it. The inside is very light and airy for a London pub and has a lot of space...It always seems to be pretty dead though, perhaps because of the location which is a good fifteen minutes away from Fulham Broadway but that would not explain why the Wilton is usually quite busy.

The staff are always polite and talkative and usually Australian! and the drinks are reasonable - as it's competition is just across the road...

The locals frequent both pubs and usually alternate with a couple of drinks in both, this is not explained why, but they're usually up to no good so maybe it's something devious...

Go to this pub if you want dodgy deals and a feeling of being watched...

Review of Lloyds No 1

27 Jul 07, 00:34

Great to chill with your mates 3*

Sometimes it's hard to have a good night out with your mates in your local pub - locals can be graveyards at times, plus it can all get a bit samey...

However, Lloyds Bar in fulham Broadway is one of those between pub and club places with enough atmosphere and good music to keep the night alive...

I partularly had some really good nights going down there with my Aussie mates with a pocketful of pound coins and a pitcher of some cheap cocktail playing on the quiz machines all night, they can be hilarious!

Just what they've done about the smoking ban (seeing as it's situated in an indoor complex) is unknown, but hopefully it's just as busy as it used to be

Plus there's always a plethora of young, polite and extremly sexy girls that drink there...if the quiz machine gets a little too frustrating!

drinks are typical London prices but the cocktail pitchers are reasonable (because they contain little alcohol probably!) and there is your typical run of the mill 'wetherspoons' food available till 10....

Review of Fez

03 Jul 07, 11:13

Example Morocco in Fulham 4*

Fez is a Moroccan and Lebanese restaurant on Fulham Palace Road, Fulham/Hammersmith - just round the corner from Hammersmith Apollo...

The meal choices can be limited, but as this is a Moroccan restaurant it's traditional Moroccan and Lebenese meals - lots of rice and cous-cous with dabblings of chicken. The food is nothing out of the ordinary but beats sitting at home and cooking and for a reasonable price you can get a big meal.

the unique factor of this dining experience is on your desert menu...

Price at around £7 - £8 you can order a 'shisha' which is the traditional smoking pipe of the middle Eastern countries - resembling a rather large and intricate 'bong' this shisha pipe is stood next to where you want to retire to (usually the bottom of the restaurant with big fluffy cushions and ornate curtains) they come in a variety of flavours such as strawberry, mint and coffee (there are others but I have never tried them) and consists of you sucking on the foil covered cable which leads to the bubbling, gurgling shisha pipe. This is an original experience of another country's customs.

Although it certainly looks like some kind of drug, and people have commented on a relaxed and 'stoned' state of mind, this is all psychological as the 'shisha' is more of an appetiser or dessert (hence why it is on the dessert menu) than anything else...a perfect way to end your meal and relax with friends.

Review of The Slug And Lettuce

03 Jul 07, 10:45

Pub Chain with character 4*

This is a typical big chain pub - large spaces, cheap bearely edible food and the cheapest drinks around that slowly put the local pubs out of business

This particular slug and lettuce in Fulham Broadway is also the HQ of all the Australian and Kiwi travellers of London it seems. This does however make for a great atmosphere when any kind of sporting event is taking place especially rugby!

If you want to watch the football or rugby match in the pub and you're around Fulham Broadway, i'd suggest going here - it's loud brash and very 'antiquitanirian' - is that a word?! I mean Australian orientated but you can't help but get sucked into it all and can increase the excitment of the game tenfold!

Review of The Cabin

03 Jul 07, 10:33

Bar and Grill... 3*

The Cabin Bar and Grill to give it it's full name is a restaurant on Dawes Road, Fulham...

The prices can be typically London, however, if you dine before 7pm there are great discounts which make this place an enjoyable dining experience.

The menu is moslty seafood but there are general dishes like burgers and steaks - not forgetting the delicious ribs on tuesdays!

The staff are polite and helpful and talkative.

After your meals you can sample some finely made cocktails at the bar, a delicious way to end your evening

Review of Wilton Arms

03 Jul 07, 10:26

The Peter Shilton 3*

As London expands and becomes more 21st Century It can be harder and harder to find a traditional London boozer!

Well look no further than The Wilton Arms on Dawes Road, Fulham. This is certainly no wine bar and is a typical working mans pub. During the day it is frequented mostly by the pensioners and unemployed as a refuge to rest in between their trips to the bookmakers - but there are certainly a few characters to be found then! come the evening it starts to pick up and the night can come alive with Pool competions and Darts Leagues etc. The weekend is packed as everyone puts on their gladrags and heads out for a weekend full of karaoke headed by the governor doing his usual George Michael impression (which, to be fair, are actually rather good!)

The drinks are typically London prices but are all premium brands, no food is served in this pub but you can get a bag of crips or pork scratchings. Plus if you're peckish a person will come through with some steaks or salmon sooner or later...

If you want to mix with good honest working people (and a few dishonest ones!), ex-gangsters, current gangsters and cheeky cockneys then this is the pub for you. come with an open mind and a polite nature and you'll have a ball...

Review of Little Bay

03 Jul 07, 10:04

The best Restaurant in London? 5*

Whenever I go out to eat I judge by three factors:

1. Quality of food 2. Reasonable Prices 3. Originality

Little Bay on Wandsworth Bridge Road (Fulham) ticks all the boxes and then some!

The decour is unique and rustic which leaves you with an impression of what a little opium grotto would have been like in the early nineteenth century - not your run of the mill restaurant look in any way. Another original feature is the feeling of privacy you can find in such a small and cramped space, there are hovels and balconies that you don't see until your third or fourth visit... Every meal I have eaten there has been fantastic and faultless be it the tangy and sweet red pepper terrine for staters or a nice big juicy steak and real chips (served on a wooden plate) The staff are polite, helpful and welcoming and actually look like they are enjoying their work - almost all staff are from another country (kind of inevitable in London) but rather improves the experience by giving a sample of their foreign charm and eccentricity! I remember one occasion having my order taken by an Italian chap who let out a large "MMMmmmm" or "Gooood choice!" after every part of my order - hilarious! And you cannot overlook the prices: £2.95 for a starter (and £1.95 before 6pm) and around £6 - £8 for a main (with steaks being a little more obviously) again, cheaper still before 6pm.

I recommend the Barberry Duck - gorgeous!

check out the website for a full menu list but be aware that there are specials also available on the big blackboard that covers one of the walls (If you can read the handwriting!)
