Review of 6 St Chad's Place

Lovely places in King's Cross no. 3
"Lovely places" and "King's Cross" is surely an oxymoron? Not so, because tucked behind the Big Chill House is this cavernous bar that used to be an old mechanics workshop.
The dust and grime have long gone and in its place a fab bar for birthday drinks, cocktails and tapas.
It's got lots of lovely exposed bricks and old tiles, plus big wooden beams. Seating-wise there are a few comfy sofas and trestle tables with chairs. Plus you can hire out the space for a special occasion.
A definite find!

Review of Sugar Reef

The 80s called and they want their cocktails back
Now, here was me thinking that Vodka Revolution was the only place in Soho that still served pitchers of sugary sweet cocktails like Woo Woos and Sex on the Beach. Oh how I was wrong.
Sugar Reef serves them up for £16 a pitcher and transports your beverage memory back 1988. Right down to the crushed ice.
This is a typical big bar, similar to The Loop, The Langley, Tiger Tiger etc. It's generic - from the decor to the menu, but the service is ok. It probably gets a few hen parties on a Friday and Saturday night taking advantage of happy hour and the big sharing platters of food on the menu.

Review of The Phoenix

Mediocre
Tucked just behind BHS on Oxford Street this is indeed the only pub on Cavendish Square. I wouldn't normally drink there as there are far better pubs just the other side of Regents Street (The Yorkshire Grey and The Crown & Sceptre to name but two). It's not the fastest place to be served - definitely not enough staff. And when my gin and tonic arrived it came without lime / lemon and a distinct absence of ice! The beer drinkers are much better served here.
That being said it is a comfy pub with benches and big tables. If you have to eat there, the nachos are the best bet.

Review of Bar Red

Good Cosmopolitan
I rediscovered Bar Red 18 months ago as a friend had her 30th birthday there. And I can't remember why I stopped drinking there. The staff are friendly, attentive, make a mean cocktails (much better for a Cosmopolitan than Revolution) and the atmosphere is chilled out and grown up. Since rediscovering it, I have been there in summer (outdoor tables very busy during the week, frequented by the beautiful people that work at BBH and M&C Saatchi) and in winter (more spacious and less competitive!). If you're meeting friends on the west side of Soho, I would definitely recommend it.
Just make sure you apply lipstick before you pitch up!

Review of Revolution Bar

Hardly revolutionary
Revolution is fine for a quick drink after work but it wouldn't be my first choice. It's spacious with low tables, sofas and a long bar so is a good place to start an evening, especially if in a group.
But remove the red lighting and you could be in any chain of pubs / bars in Soho. Aside from the generic atmosphere, the cocktails are a bit dated too - hands up who drinks Woo Woos? Yeah, I thought not.
Maybe in another ten years it will be "vintage" and people will flock there...
