What a great shop, ive had to hire two dinner jacket suits from here over the last few yrs and they have really served me very well. So much choice, the ladies here really want to help and the hire cost is fantastic value! The stock is always in great condition and you do end up looking fantastic once fitted out!!

Not for me 
Def not for me im afraid. Too many times there are so many idiots in here creating nonsense for the publice and it gets too much of a headache to even be in here! Its lovely when it rains ofcourse but even the stores in here arnt really what you would call exciting! The security guards need to remember what their jobs are too! Shake it up lads!!

I very much agree with the two review`s above but unfortunately the place is up for let, its still trading but they are letting the stock dwindle! You can get any genra you wish from here and for me is a real music shop, the guys here know there stuff and the service is very high quality! They have a shop in exeter too but they are only serving from one of their two floors! Such a shame

nice head office 
One of the oldest and best equiped agencies in the town but i have to say they are one of the least professional of them all! their head office is very grand but their office is down at the bottom end of the town near blue arrow! They have a pretty big office, nice enough staff who do seem interested but not as sharp as i would like!

Right down at the bottom end of the town, the shop is pretty big and has a very nice front end! They do try and keep you top the type of industry your in but dont really give you enough lead time for a new position! With the refurbishment nearly done i think it will keep this agency pretty near the top for positioning you into a new career.

I have never been a fan of this jewellers, they tend to cater for the the more tacky part of the industry and the prices really dont reflect that! The displays are tacky and the staff really dont have the experience that you need to be able to sell jewellery propoerly! Its in the shopping centre so the only benefit is that you dont get wet when shopping

situated in an old warehouse, this gym is pretty old now but has kept up with the times! They have a huge amount of room here and carry out lots of dance lessons etc! the equipment is upto date and john who runs it makes sure the staff are upto the job! Very easy to park as its right by a major car park!!

a pretty old cinema that lies right in the middle of the town, its been re-furbished and really does cater for the new releases now! They do get very busy with all the new releases so its wise to get online and pre-book some tickets as not to get dissapointed!!

this is a pretty good leisure centre with some good alterations, they have also managed to get the tarka tennis centre just a few hundred yards away which increases the options for you! The centre has a good gym and a pretty good swiming pool! Not too bad for this growing town!

as i run a company car i have to go to this place and i have to say they treat me really well. they get the tyres checked and replace them within 2 hrs on the day i need, the place is pretty big and the staff really know there stuff! I would def recommend this place to anyone with most car problems!!

i have never eaten here but have just dealt with the guys for business and found them really really nice people. The food is very fresh and the location is very handy for the fall out of two main pubs in the centre of town! The kebab stake im sure gets a good bashing most eve`sof the week

has changedc his location which in my mind was a mistake but im sure he had his reasons. The main stockist for yamaha and has a lovely stock of used bikes too. There are some lovely selections of off road bikes too as that is Alex`s specialality and can provide you with all the clothes you could ever want/need.

Its nice to see the above but i have to say the opposite was there for me! The place looks drab from the outside and it took over 5 min of waiting in the shop to get anyone to even bother coming to chat to us! It left a very bad taste with me so i walked over the road to bairstow and dealt with Marco!! sorry

i really like this pub, it has a lovely little terrace outside at the front and a really cosy little bar inside!! Its great on a sunday for example as they do show some footie and its not right in the centre of town so the people you get here are much nicer people!!

A very appealing shop from the outside, they have two really big leather setee`s in the window and the glass is full length so you can see how relaxing it is in there from the outside!! The facilities are first class and the staff seem very qualified, i bought a voucher for nik at xmas, guess who was popular!!

had a tanning session from here when it was owned by a friend of mine, its now got new owners, they have switched the receotion to the other side of the shop, the tanning boxes are still downstairs and the nail bar is all upstairs now, they still have their huge plasma screen up for when your having your nails done ladies!!

very cool ladies fashion shop, i managed to get Nik a really cool pair of o`neil flip flops from here and they happened to be in a sale, they are pretty expensive normally but you can get most of the proper labels from here though! Looks lovely from the outside and inside its lovely and clean and well presented!!

Head massage
one of the better hairdressers in town for both guys and girls! the price does reflect that mind! I have my hair shaved off so not great value for me but if youd like to have the pampering youd go a long way to better sarah hodge for that! Massage of the hands and head plus the amazing cuppa from the lovely machine!!

i always pass this pub most days and there are always at least 6 people on the doorstep smoking and it doesnt look great! The inside looks very uninviting plus they only really cater for the real heavy pub goer! Not impressed so wont be going in at all!!

this is a fabulous huge shop on the corner of the high st and boutport st. They really know how to dispaly and sell you the sweets of your dreams and past! they will pour them out for you and weigh them, then put them in one of those great little paper bags for you! the jars are all up on high shelves just as they should be!! Bon BON heaven!!

the place is open all day and i often walk past and you get the regular drinkers in the pub below, you can go upstairs where they have a large restaurant with very plush settings! the food is very nice but a little too posh to be honest! this station is on the site of the vauxhall and volvo dealerships so the forecourt can get very very busy! The cost of the fuel is pretty good compared to the rest but still not as cheap as the supermarkets! They also dont supply throwaway gloves so you can avoid getting diesel on your hands, thats imperative to me in my job!

fantastic results
what a great company esp for the businesses that are around the roundswell area! Tidy gardens will come and cut the grass etc and then smallridge will come and get the beds etc looking fabulous for whichever time of year! They really do give there advice in a very creative way! Fantastic results

in the 70`s
the doors are alwya open at this entrance which makes it pretty welcoming! Banburys have 3 entrances and this one in boutport st takes you straight into the furniture dept, there are very few people in here to help and the feeling you have in here is way back in the 70`s, its a very choicey store but a little old fashioned to be honest!

fantastic parking and boy what choice you can get from rosebys.The curtains and the fabrics they have here are probably the biggest in the town, they have two full floors of stock and the choice i would say is possibly a little too much! The measuring / fitting service could be better but the prices make it worth looking in depth

its a little cheaper than the national equivalent but comes with a personallity. You can tell your going to get the service you know you want and the advice that you will need when your looking at the cooking products! Ive bought quite a few kitchen items from here and often bought more than i needed, lovely place!

The national farmers union isnt just for farmers, even though i really thought they were years ago! This office is brilliant as they are so keen to help but not sell you anything! They have a huge following and totally respected! Very friendly and so nice to visit!

I had an occasion to use this business many years ago and never wanted to use it again, it was full of very unsavoury characters who were desperate to cash their cheques no matter what the situation! When the new bridge was being built here in barnstaple all the labourers were having to use the shop to get their cash! Not open now

This is a pretty big bank but big doesnt always mean better! They refuse to open for a few hrs on saturday when the others seem to and the help once your in is limited to only a couple of ladies who always seem to be very busy! The queue in this branch does seem to be huge compared to other banks!

Such a shame
Why is when you have found such a great shop it decides to remove itself from the high st!! Some fantstic interactive toys to play with and the learning equipment was fantastic here. The staff were exceptional too, i hope they all managed to get re-housed in great jobs!!

Very fashionable and very unique is how i would describe the shoes from dinky! If your after some shoes fro a special occasion or want to stand out a little then you must pay this shop a visit! the service is excellent and the prices are not too bad bearing in mind the individual choice you can get here! Nikki ended up getting two pairs of wonderful shoes here and she swears by them!!

If you cant afford to buy from clarkes and you want a standard pair of shoes, mens or womans then Stead & Simpsons has to be the shop to be in! im so happy to say that ive never had the need to visit this jobcentre as a client, but i have had to visit to talk business with them and im so glad i managed to get them to come to me the second meet! Its got some very strange people who seem to hang around the place for a long time, the staff are so over worked and the outside of the premesis is a meeting place for the hoody brigade!

I was never really a book worm, but i got bought a great book for my birthday last year and am hooked now! Because i can now read several books a week its a great opportunity to get some great second hand books from tarka, they have anything you caould wish for here and the stock changes nearly every other day! because this place is outside the centre of town you have to make the effort to go here. As per the above review, they have an attitude that will put them out of business very soon. icalled themfrom work one week in feb because our printer had gone wrong, they wanted us to deliver the items we wanted printing to them and it would`nt be able to be done for 3 days! Im sorry but that doesnt sound like a company that wants to do business!

Its a great skill to know how to finish that great picture of your off, these guys will advice really well on size/shape etc of frame and make taking that picture all the more worth it! The prices are fab bearing in mind the advice is priceless in this frame shop, used them many times now!!

Great service here
I managed to get these guys to buy my old 35mm camera so i could get into the digital age! A localy based camera shop that will do all it can to compete with the internet and the currys of the world! Great knowledge by the guys here and they have also really helped in transfering film from an old video tape to a dvd! Fantastic service

Small, grim and a bit of a dungeon! the old fashioned style newsagents that still caters for the old man with a shower mack on!! The papers,sweets etc are ok if you know what you need, you can get in and out pretty quick as its not always that busy! The hygeine in here is obviously not priority!!

Lessons available
A fantastic shop to get some sheet music esp if your learning to play an instrument! the sheet music/ song sheets etc are at the back of the shop with all the guitars/drums/flutes/clarinets etc are at the front and in the window to draw all us budding players in! They supply the schools in the town so are able to be very competative price wise, plus the sone of the owner now offers lessons at some great prices!

The boy in you
What a delight to see this kind of model shop survive the credit crunch! The boy has never left me and nor has it for most guys and girls!! the models range from the balser wood, metal, petrol and macano models! they will allow you to have a play in the shop plus will order stock in from brochures they have from all over europe! Fantastic for pressies and a little getting back to the boy in you!!

I AGREE. This phone shop is exactly as it was portrayed on the tv recently. The shop is very unwelcoming from the outside with big windows with supposed big deals to be had, they have some girlie staff trying to drag you in the shop and then if you do give in , the sharp suites are there waiting for you! It doesnt come across as genuine at all and if you do purchase make sure you check it all at least 4 times before leaving the store!!

Not alot of stock
the smallest of the mobile shops in the high st and probably the best in many ways! the manageress was great with me and my 11 yr old daughter, she adviced on a few phones and gave good reasons why, mind you, laura nearly got her way! The store doesnt carry huge stock on site so we didnt manage to buy on that occasion fron here! Good service though!

A traditional gentlemans shop/oufitters that just seems to have survived the time zone! Its got that musty smell of some of the clothing and probably the clients!! The need is there
I can understand the need for shops like Govers but there is very little in here i can stomach to wear! there is no fashion at all in here but then thats the whole point! Im not a snob(much), but its so cool to know earls is here, i love to buy shirts and shoes for work here as i know they will last the course! the prices you dont even look at but at least you know the next guy in the st will have the same gear on! A good giggle is exactly what we did when we had a look at this catalogue. Its a bit like some of the avon stuff you get through your door but the prices a little better! I know you do get what you pay for but you can find things in here you may not get anywhere else! Pretty individual to be honest!

Bad quality
A fantastic range of lingerie but i have to say the quality isnt great. Bought some lovely stuff as a prezzie at xmas, it fell apart after one wash. Its a very good price and it all looks fantastic but ni have to say there are places you can buy better in the town, sorry, not impressed!

very helpful
A really helpful guy runs this store, the leather products he sells are very good but not the cheapest! He has the chamois leathers hanging from the front door and masses of lovely jackets inside! I was looking to get Nik a pair of leather trousers for xmas last year, he couldnt get any but did help me locate some! The stock is beautiful but you need to time it right when he has some reductions

state of mind
Yes, this shop does smell nice when you go in and yes, i was convinced that this typ of remedy would work, but not for me! I have had eczema since being a boy and never really found a cure so i thought id try the chinnese cure. This store was recommended, its lovely in there and the staff are fantastic but i still believe its all a state of mind.

Apple a day
One of the more humerous businesses on the row! The fruit and veg seller that should be on only fools and horses, he whistles at the ladies and chucks the guys he knows an apple to start the day off! I love buying from this guy, it can cheer up the whole day!!

Own smell
another butchers row business that is surrounded buy items to eat! this flower shop really is so very popular mainly because its independant and will do you a deal if your up for that! the smell holds its own once your near, it is tiny inside but the lady owner does encourage selling even if your out on the pavement!!

only down the row from passmores but this is a good thing! Butchers row has about 4 fish mongers all together and they all have their fav fish to sell! This is brill as the choice is awsome. S&P is great for the prawns and cockles, these are so lovely i really cant pass without buying some no matter what time of day!!

I love a bit of fishing but dont get alot of chance to, when i can though this is the angling shop for me!! the rods and bait choice is superb and they will always keep you upto date with the new products. I really dont regard myself as experienced at all and are still happy to help me even if they know they have already done it for me! Great deals, much inline with the internet

Great girlie shop
A god send as far as buying for my partner and daughter, they are girlie girls and they love Kim`s little shop. Its a real girlie gifty shop which keeps there attention for many an hour! Its one of those shops that the girls say they want to have a look but you know they will buy several items!! Bit like me in a sports shop i suppose!

all you need under one roof
Being a guy i dont make dresses etc but my partner does, this fabric shop is just full of all the fabrics etc you could ever want! They have the accessories to which make it the ideal one stop shop. The only thing is they wont make up curtains etc, in my case merlin fabrics did that for me even with fabric from here, the dress making advice that Nik got from the lady who owns the shop was invaluable too!

independant electrical
Only one of two independant electrical retailers in the town that are left now, this one and rodds electrical! The sony centre closed up two yrs ago and Bernard smith is really the only place you can get good quality sont gear! the guys in here are very knowledgable and the costs are pretty gd compared to comet etc! I love this independant shop, really recommended

fantastic service from this lady, the second of the major dry cleaners in the town, its very very popular, the cost is a little more but hey, you do get what you pay for esp in this case! I have to say the 3 times she has done my suites the quality has been superb, will always use this cleaners!

Very unimpressed
I have to say for a national company this business in barnstaple is appalling! The service you get once you walk into the showroom is very unprofessional and the girl lloks as though she is a prisoner in the showroom. They only want to speak with you if you want to order there and then, im not impressed with this office at all.

The old fashioned barbers shop, there are two of these in the town and ever so popular! If you like to have your hair shaved off then get in here. Only £5 will get you a proper job, this is only for the guys amongst you really, only bad thing is that he shuts on a friday at 1pm!

Great sports shop
I really like this sports shop, its not a national and the two guys in here are real sports enthusiasts! I have had my squash racket re strung here twice now and it doesnt cost alot at all. The Just off the norm sports get a real good exposure and its brilliant to see. I would so prefer it if the sporst shops in town had more in stock like these guys! The only thing they dont have are the football shirts in!

Union jack
A fantastic place for the everything you may need for the outdoor purchase! Its got loads of seconhand stuff like an army surplas shop and the selection is just out of this world! I managed to get a huge union jack from here and found out that it was from an old scout group, the best flags you can wish to get! Great shop!!

Wrong hanger
Yes, topshop is topshop but there are some shops worst than others!This one seems stuck in the 90`s to be honest, i bought a pair of jeans from here but i really should have tried them on, they had the wrong hanger on them so hence the wrong size, not very good to be honest! Im not a fan of this shop to be honest!

Lack of room
A really lovely selection of food and some pies to die for! Like alot of the loevly food shops in town they suffer from lack of room but they seem to get away with it with the way they turn away the client as soon as they have bought! Get there before lunch and you`ll get a great choice!

like many high streets in the land at the moment, there are lots of hospice shops, this one though is very good and the ladys eho work here are very keen on making the dispalys really easy to get too! The stock is very good quality and ive managed to buy some great stuff lately!

Like tina has said, this is the only real quality clarkes shop in the twon and if you have kiddies the best place to get them thier shoes! the refurb will make it better but the ticket system can confuse people, esp if you dont get your self a ticket as soon as you get in! Really lovely shoes though!!

the jewellery here is very individual and priced really well for barnstaple. The only negative really is that it does get so crammed in here if there is more than two customers in the shop at the same time! The lead time for getting stuff made for you is very good too!

Such a shame
As paul says above, a real delight to see an unusuall shop locally because of the imports we`ve been having lately but it s gone now, a real shame! The stock was very interesting and the taste was so very different to what we`re used to here normally, perhaps they will open again soon somewhere else!!

A real drinkers paradise, the only specialist off license in the town and gets very good business from that! The choice could be alot better but the space he has here is very limited! The deals are very competative but he has to be very carefull when trying to compete with the supermarkets sometimes! Its just nice to buy from a loca guy and not a conglomerate!

this north devon coastline is covered in surf shops selling a whole lot of rubbish but this one really does sell a good mixture of affordable and quality! I bought about 5 t shirts and long sleeve skate board tops for both of my kids and they love them! Really great place to visit but watch your pocket, you`ll keep spending

Butchers row, what a place. The businesses here are really great with all the local produce on show! This fish shop is all on show and you can tell the produce has just been caught and you can guarantee its been caught off our coast! The smell down butchers row goes from the bakers smell to the fishy smell, heaven for the barnstaple housewife!!

Not irish enough for me
Supposed to be a traditional irish pub but i have to say i was dissapointed. The place gets pretty rowdy in the busy eve`s and they dont have any irish music to speak of to listen too! Bouncers grace the pavements which i dont like so it wont be getting me back im afraid!
