Review of Nell Gwynne

The Nell Gwynne 4*

A lovely little pub off The Strand. Has a great atmosphere and jukebox. Quite small so gets very crowded but good if you get a table.

Review of Point 101

Point 101 1*

A last resort bar to have a drink if you are in the area and have no where else to go. Loud, expensive, slow service and only larger on tap downstairs. Can be OK if you get a booth upstairs away from one of the cranked up speakers. It's good if you like overpriced cocktails, don't want talk to more than one person's ear at a time and want to drink quickly because there's nothing else to do. It's the kind of place they give you change on a small metal plate at the bar expecting a tip. I don't understand this anywhere - tips are fine for table service but don't ask me for money when I have moved to the bar and ordered after waiting for the staff to be bothered to notice me. Could be a good place if you're a teenager (physical or mental) on the pull or acting like an idiot- other than that avoid if possible.

Review of Chiquito

Chiquito 3*

A large Mexican bar and restaurant on the eastern side of Leicester Square. As you could imagine lots of tourists due to the location but it is OK if you fancy Mexican. Lively atmosphere with families, groups and couples enjoying the food and drink - some more than others. Last time we where here we where next to a group worse for drink and the language was not that polite. It's not a posh place and the price for the area isn't high so its not such a surprise and all day drinking trip might end up here. It is usually busy but they give you a buzzer to take to the bar which goes off when a table is free. I like this, it is an efficient touch and makes waiting stress free. The usual selection of Mexican food is fine, nothing amazing but very nice. The mixed platter is an economical starter and has a nice range of nibbles including chicken wings, corn on the cob and the like.

Review of Bear and Staff Pub

03 May 07, 09:01

The Bear and Staff 3*

A good pub to meet before moving on to a show or cinema in the West end as it is very near the tube. The beer is not bad and a few choices of ales and bitters. Slightly small and smoky, but for one or two not bad. Not that touristy considering the area. Not sure I would want to spend all night here but overall not bad.
