Nice food...nice garden 
If you're looking for somewhere in the Hassocks area for a nice lunchtime snack or pub meal, you could do a lot worse than The Friars Oak.
I've always had good meals there, I think the value is good...and there is a lovely outside area to sit out if (and when) we have good weather.

Nice food but pricey 
I never used to like this place but met up with friends there recently and changed my mind.
It has a really nice atmosphere in there, the staff were nice and friendly and the food was great.
My one reservation is that I think it is quite pricey for what you get...but I suppose that is partially due to the fact that you're right bang in the centre of Brighton.

Top dog! 
Handsome Hounds is THE place to take your dog to make them look even more beautiful than normal.
My dog absolutely loves going there for his monthly trim.
Sharon, the owner, is fantastic and always does an amazing job. People often stop me when I'm walking Alfie to ask where he is groomed.
Although there are many other dog groomers nearer to where I live, it is most definitely worth the drive to go to Handsome Hounds.
The other bonus is they are very reasonable too.

Lovely fish and chips
Tim Ley does chinese and fish & chips.
I haven't tried their chinese but can recommend their fish and chips.
Their batter is always nice, but not too thick. Good chips too.
However, a little tip for you...they are always really, really busy so ring up and order your food first so that way you can just turn up and collect it at the appropriate time rather than having to hang around waiting for it.

Fancy a fry-up??? No a grill-up?
This is making me hungry just thinking about going for a breakfast at the Southern Grill.
Their breakfasts are so lovely because they are grilled and not fried.
Not only are their cooked breakfasts great, but you can get all sorts of other food as well.
The staff are lovely and their service is always really quick.
Got to go...breakfast is calling!!!

Absolutely fabulous
This chinese in the middle of Burgess Hill used to be a bingo hall...but has been transformed brilliantly.
If it's just the two of you, you can sit in one of their cozy booths or a bigger group can have one of their nice large round tables.
The staff are absolutely wonderful and can't do enough for you.
And now to the food. Wow, wow, wow!! I have eaten there nearly every week for the last year and have never had a bad meal. The food is always really tasty and plentiful.
You must try The Emperor. You won't be disappointed.

Review of Sussex At Hove

Friendly local
If you're looking for a good pub in the Hove area for a drink, bite to eat and watch the footie....can I recommend The Sussex.
It's worth a visit just to meet the landlord, Chas, who is quite a character (and loves his brandy!)
The Sussex also has a lovely patio garden, which is a proper sun-trap.
The food is typical pub food, edible but not fine cuisine.
There's always a really nice atmosphere in The Sussex with the regulars always making you feel at home.

Clean up your act
If you're in the Hove area and need your car cleaned, get down to Hove Hand Car Wash.
It's easy to find, right next to Hove railway station.
They're always busy but that's because Carl and the rest of the lads always do such a great job.
They will clean, dry and hoover your car in the space of around 5 minutes and all for a £5.
Great value and saves me doing it on a Sunday morning!!

My favourite Indian
This Indian may not look much from the outside but don't let that put you off.
Like most Indian restaurants the interior could probably do with a make-over but it's not about that, it's about the food...and that is great.
If you can't find what you're looking for on the menu you can ask the staff and they will get the chef to make something up for you.
The staff are always lovely and it's good value too.
Give it a try.

Nice pub
Particularly in the summer, this is a lovely place to go to and sit outside and have a drink and a bite to eat.
The food wasnt great for a while but is now back to its best.
If you live in Burgess Hill, it's a nice place to cycle to going up Gatehouse Lane.
