Review of Suits You
14 May 08, 11:43
Poor selection
I was looking for a suit for everyday use but I didn't want to spend a fortune. Combine that with me being tall and broad, the selection was not good at all. I was given the choice of 2 suits of which neither were suitable.
I didn't find the staff that helpful, as soon as I told them how much I wanted to pay, it seemed like they lost interest. I was much happier at Moss Bros

Review of Martins

The only one around sadly
This newsagent is so incredibly overpriced it is ridiculous. It benefits from being one of the only newsagents in the area which is why they charge what they want. The drinks and food are over priced and everything else they sell tends to be a lot more expensive than you can normally find it.
The shop is always stuffy and the staff are ignorant, barely mustering a hello or thank you half the time. Even worse, some of them have a tendancy to follow you round the store with their eyes which makes me feel uneasy.
If they had competition in the area then it might force them to drop their prices.

Review of Fitness First

Horrible atmosphere
I am quite fussy about gyms because I'm not particularly confident when I am in there, so I want somewhere where I feel I can get on with what I am doing, probably wrong, but without thinking people are watching and sniggering. Sadly here I felt uneasy, to the extent that I was paying for it but not using it.
The equipment is ok but as it's in the city centre there isn't really enough to cope with the amount of members, so it's often busy and you will have to wait for the machine you want. The staff were all quite friendly with the big body builder types and that kind of relationship makes me feel like I'm not as welcome as the one's who drink the protein shakes and pump iron every day of their lives. They do offer free cold drinks and hot drinks for members so that is good but it's not enticing enough to make me want to go back there.

Review of Odeon Cinema

Get down to the Marina
I'm not entirely sure why you would choose to come here over the cinema in Brighton Marina. At this one, parking is awkward and expensive, the cinema is so old and run down it is embarassing, the seats are uncomfortable and there is more legroom on a 1p Ryanair flight to Salzburg, it's not an enjoyable experience.
Whereas the marina has free parking, it's having a refurb now (May 08) and there's loads of room, give the Odeon a miss or risk not enjoying that film you were excited about.

Awful experience
My friend had given me a voucher to use here after he had a really bad experience. The voucher was by way of an apology to them from the management, an attempt to make up for it, well it didn't.
The food wasn't very good at all, there was one waiter working who couldn't cope with the 2 tables he had to look after and we felt extremely forgotten. Well this place WAS forgettable however, I will say that I have heard it has new management since then and they are making an effort, which they should because in terms of location looking out to sea, it doesn't get much better.

Review of The Brighton Charter Hotel

A disgrace to the city
In this brilliant city there are some really great places, then there are some who just let the place down through their unprofessionalism and this is one of them.
Thankfully I have never actually stayed here, although at one point i needed to and they were atrocious.
I had a large booking for 8 people at a weekend, I booked the rooms on the phone directly and was given confirmation details. 2 days, yes 2 days before the weekend when 7 friends were coming to stay in Brighton, I received a phone call to say that the person on the phone had double booked the room and they were cancelling the booking...that was it, not a sorry, nothing to suggest ways to accomodate 8 people at 2 days notice, just that they were cancelling the booking.
I tried for weeks afterwards to discuss the matter in an attempt to get compensation but letters and emails were ignored and i decided not to waste any more time on these people who tarnish the name of the great city.
Do yourself a favour, if this is the only hotel left, bring a tent and go on the beach rather than stay here

Review of Steamer Inn

The most repulsive food
That's not an exaggeration either, the food here is terrible and it feeds off the fact that it is on the esplanade and in a fantastic location in Shanklin...there are so many better places to eat though.
We came here on the first day of our holiday as it was in one of the brochures as a good place to eat. I will take the blame for eating the Triple Burger, 3 burgers with cheese, pineapple and onions....I know it's a piggy thing to order and you expect it to be big...well it was, the only problem was that it was SO unbelievably greasy. They said that the burgers were griddled but I'm sorry, you don't get that much grease from griddling meat. Everything just oozed fat and was sliding about everywhere.
When we told the loud manager who was shouting around the place like some sort of wannabe stand up comedian, he just said, "of course it's greasy it's a burger" which surprisingly wasn't the response I wanted.
Don't be fooled by the look of this place in magazines, it's shocking

Review of Bowlplex

Hard to get wrong but they do
I came here for my birthday recently and wanted it to be a great night, we'd arranged it in advance...2 games of bowling, food and drinks with a waiter on hand to serve us.
We got there and had to move lanes numerous times because at first they didn't have them altogether like we'd asked for, then when we did eventually get them, the lanes kept breaking. it took some people 2 hours to play one game of bowling.
The food is very basic, we expected that but it took ages for us to order the food, it then took even longer to get it. There were 20 of us and they brought the food out 4 at a time as if they only had 4 microwaves to cook it in. The staff were completely inept and didn't seem to know what was going on. We eventually spoke to a manager who only managed to appease us with some free drinks.
You'll be pleased to know I still had a good birthday

Review of Mishon Mackay
18 Apr 08, 11:13
Made me feel unwelcome
In the summer of 2007 I was looking to buy my first property. As with a lot of first time buyers, I struggled to get a deposit together to get on the ladder. When I did, I was excited about house hunting. I didn't have a big budget but I knew from looking in newspapers and on websites that with my money, I could get something half decent.
I went round every estate agents in Brighton and Hove and was treated with respect by them all except Mishon Mackay. I was sat down by a gentleman, I wish I could remember his name but sadly not. He asked me what I was looking for, that all went well. Then he asked me my budget, I told him. At which point he got out of his chair, put out his hand to shake mine and said that I there was nothing of that price range available and I should keep calling to check if anything new came on the market. He didn't even take my details, evidentally my money wasn't worth much there. So I never called back, they could have had my dream house but i refuse to be treated like a pauper by an estate agent. There are plenty of better ones out there, you don't need these big boys

Review of Sukhothai

Horrible experience
Do yourself a favour if you thought you wanted to come here, don't bother.
There were 3 of us looking for somewhere to eat and we thought we would give this place a go. We walked in and no word of a lie, were stood at the front door for 5 minutes without even being acknowledged. The staff were ignorant to us even being there. Eventually we sat ourselves down and then had to wait for the menus to arrive.
The food, when it eventually came, was definitely not worth the long wait, it was terrible and summed up the entire experience for me

Review of Wagamama
15 Apr 08, 22:12
Absolutely awful
I had a 2 for 1 voucher for Wagamama so I thought it was worth checking out. I had heard good things and was surprised not to have been before, but this was my first and now last time, I was severely disappointed.
We were seated quickly and the order was taken promptly, the food even arrived quickly, they tell you that it doesn't always come together because of the way it is cooked, that's fine...then the problems started though. Being an authentic 'asian' restaurant, you are only given chopsticks. Because we are in the UK, some of us need a knife and fork as well, we waited to ask the waitress for a knife and fork, and waited and waited and eventually my girlfriend had to get up and go to the bar, only to be told that there are no knives in the building so we made do with a fork and spoon???
Then after the meal we sat for 10 minutes with dirty plates in front of us and had to ask for them to be cleared at which point we also requested the bill. The bill came quickly but when i put my card down to pay with, it took a long time again to be dealt with.
Overall I was severely let down by this place, the food was average in the end, too watery, the service was appalling and it did nothing to entice me back. There are plenty of other Chinese/Japanese/Thai options in Brighton and Hove, don't bother with this one

Review of Asda Stores
11 Apr 08, 10:45
No Vegetarian food in Brighton??
I was in the Marina so decided to do my shop at Asda instead of the convenient Tesco. Everything was going well until I went to get some frozen vegetarian food. After walking round the frozen section 3 times we decided to ask the manager who was close by. He also walked round a few times not knowing where it was, he then spoke to a colleague who told us sheepishly that there was in fact no vegetarian frozen food on the shelves. For Brighton this is pretty poor and I won't be shopping there again
