Review of Tesco Stores

Save yourself 2*

You might think that it's a good idea to come here after a long journey, after all it's on the way back into Brighton and Hove, quite why Tesco decided or were allowed to put a little store amongst a residential area is beyond me.....well they did and it's not one of their finest. It's small and pokey and is likely to leave you angry, not least because you can't even park outside. Inside it is too small to be able to walk around. Go to the bigger one round the corner, failing that, have a takeaway.

Review of Waitrose

Good selection, high prices 3*

I'm not a Waitrose shopper normally but that's only because I find it too expensive. I don't doubt that the food is good quality but I can't bring myself to pay over the odds for something I can get a lot cheaper somewhere else.

This one is always well stocked and it's in a convenient location. It has the self-shop thing which is sometimes quicker.

Review of Taj

Great selection 3*

If you think you're a budding chef then Taj is great, you can look round for ages at the different ingredients you might want to put into your next creation.

It sells fruit and veg, sometimes the size of the veg is impressive. As well as the usual stuff you might find in a supermarket, it has an amazing selection of World Foods, particularly Middle Eastern so if you like spices then this is the place to go.

They also sell the Nargila or Hookah pipe which is synonymous with the Middle East, it's flavoured tobacco without the tar....a great thing for after dinner.

The deli section is well stocked with loads of choice of ready to eat foods. Great place and definitely somewhere to stop off and look around

A decent little shop 4*

For it's size, this place really isn't bad. It's got a few parking spaces outside next to the free cash machine and it's near the train station if you want something for the journey.

The stock levels could be a bit better but as the previous reviewer mentioned, it is rather small. It has the self service tills as well so you don't normally have to wait to be served.

It's ok 3*

First the good points...it has everything you need, it sometimes has better offers than it's bigger but worse off store on Church Road, it has the convenient self service tills and there is a cash point outside.

Now the bad points....you don't get reception on Orange inside, there is a blower at the door that can ruin your hairdo, the trolley man is odorous, it's in Portslade, the layout is a bit odd with less aisle space and a lot of everyday stuff lined up along the back wall

Overall, it's a decent Tesco

A supermarket 3*

This is the big Tesco in Hove, the biggest supermarket in the area and it's not bad. It usually has well stocked shelves unlike some of the other smaller Tesco stores in the area, the trolleys are usually there if you want them and the self service checkout is a nice option if you're in a hurry, unless a mother decides it would be fun to let her 4 year old scan the entire shopping list contents for a week.

The only annoying thing about this store is the car park barrier system. In over a year, not once have i got my car park ticket stamped or paid for parking. Regardless of how long you are in there, you won't be charged...sometimes the exit barriers are even open so you don't need to put the ticket in. Sometimes though the exit barriers are open but you are still forced to stop on entry and take a ticket. This causes traffic problems and at busy times can stretch onto the main road.

Review of Asda Stores

No Vegetarian food in Brighton?? 1*

I was in the Marina so decided to do my shop at Asda instead of the convenient Tesco. Everything was going well until I went to get some frozen vegetarian food. After walking round the frozen section 3 times we decided to ask the manager who was close by. He also walked round a few times not knowing where it was, he then spoke to a colleague who told us sheepishly that there was in fact no vegetarian frozen food on the shelves. For Brighton this is pretty poor and I won't be shopping there again
