Review of El Macho Mexican Grill Restaurant

Tequila!
I love this place: tucked away in a terrace between the Phil and the Everyman it's great for a bit of pre or post show Mexican and they do some good lunchtime deals as well.

Review of Lime Street Station

All change
If you take a main line train into Liverpool then this is where you end up. They've updated a lot of the passenger facilities over the last decade or so. Don't know why, but it always reminds me of London Paddington.

Review of Liverpool Central Station

Mind the gap
Lime Street Station's the main one for the city, this is one of the stops on Liverpool's little branch line and underground system. Handy when it's raining, but no better or worse than anywhere else you have to wait for public transport.

Review of Liverpool Central Library

Shhh! Quiet please!
This is such a fantastic building. When I first walked into that big round reading room it was a bit of a step back in time. It does look like something out of an old movie: worth a look even if you don't need to borrow any books!

Review of Liverpool Empire Theatre

Applause
This is where all the big shows play when they come to Liverpool. It's one of those 'proper' theatres with the big stage and hundreds of seats. Maybe a little old fashioned in both form and content, but it's meant to be!

Review of Picture House At Fact

That's a fact!
This is the place you go to see those films that they don't show at the Odeon on London Road. If it's foreign, if it's got subtitles, if it's in period costume then it's here!

Review of Odeon Cinema

Sticky carpets
I have a lot of affection for this place, but despite that I must say that is starting to look a little bit tatty in places these days. There's a number of screens offering you plenty of choice from the latest blockbusters and seeing them on the big screen is still much better than waiting for the DVD.

Review of Walker Art Gallery
18 Apr 08, 11:08
Impressive
The Walker Art Gallery's housed in a truly awesome building that tells you so much about Liverpool as a city. There are some big names here and famous pieces like And When Did You Last See Your Father? but it's the medieval pieces and the Pre-Raphaelites that always amaze me.

Review of Empire Theatre

A little old fashioned...
But this is the place in Liverpool where you get to see the big shows! It's a truly beautiful building, both inside and out which harks back to a forgotten golden age when you had those huge stage stars touring the country in varierty shows. The current line up still harks back to those days sometimes...

Review of Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

Classic!
They manage to get some truly great acts at the Phil, and it's not just classical music: I've seen bands and comedians and movies there too.

Review of The Everyman Theatre
18 Apr 08, 10:57
Encore!
World famous and quite rightly so! It's an intimate theatre, so much so that sometimes you end up feeling like you're in the show. You can see new pieces here and some interesting takes on the classics: the bar downstairs may not be for the claustrophobic but is always exciting.

Review of Costa

Costa Lot
It's big and spacious but it really is a bit expensive for what you're getting which is just a glorified cup of hot water basically. There are plenty of other places to go to nearby but you'll end up in this one because you're safe with what you know...

Review of Wetherspoons
18 Apr 08, 10:24
Bit of a last resort...
Like with all Wetherspoons pubs you should know what you're getting and this one is no better or worse than any of the others: there are plenty of far more interesting pubs nearby and I'd always pick one of those first. It's a pub for people who don't really like pubs and would rather have cheap than cheerful.

Review of Britannia Adelphi Hotel
18 Apr 08, 10:20
Wholly unpleasant experience
It had long been a dream of mine to stay at The Adelphi: booked in for three nights and it was a huge mistake. It was noisey, the room was cold and draughty, the paper was peeling from the walls no hot water, and worst of all I woke one morning to find that some ladies of the night had pushed a flyers advertising their services under the door...
