Review of Box Bar

Box Bar 3*

They sometimes have bands in at the weekend and they used to have salsa dancing on a Thursday in the middle of the bar, which was really funny to watch. Like being in a posh working man's club in Wigan

Review of Brigde Bar

Cheesy but a laugh 2*

This place is home to some of the rudest most petty bouncers I've ever come across.

It's like going back in time 20 years. If you're a man you're not getting in unless you're wearing a collar and have black shoes on.

That's their basis of working out if you're a trouble maker!

You could a nice friendly person wearing a jumper and a new band new pair of smart trainers but you won't get in. But the scum in the line behind you wearing a cheap polo shirt and a pair of Clarkes will get in.

Little Hitlers all of them.

Once you get past the idiots on the door the place is alright. Although if you pay by card it still comes up as Langtrys on your bank statement which is a wierd throwback to this place's last incarnation.

Review of O'Neill's Irish Bar

15 Apr 08, 11:54

Used to be better 3*

This place used to have some great live Irish music on a Thursday, but then the morons who bought the converted flats above it complained that it was too noisy and the council banned the music.

If I was to buy a flat directly above a pub which had signs all over it saying LIVE MUSIC ON A THURSDAY, I wouldn't be surprised to hear live music on a Thursday.

Still it's nice enough. They play a lot of the sports although annoyingly won't put the commentary on a lot of the time. And karioke on a Thursday's worth a laugh!

Review of Miso Noodle Bar

15 Apr 08, 11:55

Entirely as expected 3*

Noodles in a bar. Basically it does what it says on the tin.

You get massive portions though so you don't need to order more than one dish. Gets busy at weekends.

Review of George Inn

15 Apr 08, 11:57

Nice friendly local 3*

This place has gotten a lot better since the smoking ban. It used to be a really smoggy bar, now it's a lot more enjoyable.

There's a good garden too right on the High Street.

Not really the sort of place I'd want to eat, but a good antidote to the other swanky-ish bars in Beckenham

Review of Hogshead

Now a Slug and Lettuce 4*

This place got a makeover last year and is now a Slug and Lettuce. There's a good menu and it's pretty quiet during the week.

Gets busy on the weekends as people start here and then move up to Bridge Bar at 10ish

I seem to remember it closes quite early on a weekend though

Review of Goose Public House

15 Apr 08, 12:01

Really cheap and cheerful 2*

You can get a round of drinks here and get change from a fiver. But it's a bit nasty.

They've just had a bit of a re-fit but it's hard to see what's changed.

Just like any other Goose around the country, only really good if you're a few days away from pay day and broke

Review of Curry Cottage

Tasty 4*

Good food and pretty cheap too.

Seems to be open all the time and gets packed on the weekends. They have electronic candles too which was a first for me.

Review of La Rascasse

15 Apr 08, 12:06

A bit pretentious 3*

I've never tried the French resturant attached to this bar, but it's always busy.. although the prices are a bit steep for me.

The bar is really small and so gets really busy most nights. There's a garden tent bit out the back which hilariously contains a VIP section, which is just a few seats with a velvet rope around them.

Review of Friends Of Mine

Ladies who lunch 3*

Just re-opened after a fire a couple of years ago, this place seems to be a favourite with Crystal Palace players and their ladies.

Swanky looking place with bottled beer only

Rammed on a Friday/Saturday night.
