Review of Mem and Laz
27 Jul 07, 08:52
Nice middle eastern restaurant
Mem laz is a small restaurant just off Upper Street that is packed with tables and a million different trinkets, which creates a cosy and interesting ambience. The food is middle eastern - I'd guess at Turkish but I'm not quite sure - it serves halloumi, moussaka and falafels etc. It's all reasonably priced, especially the lunch deal, and is very good food. Service is always friendly and the house white always goes down well.

Review of Cafe Kick
22 May 07, 21:40
Atmospheric European bar
Cafe Kick is located bang in the centre of Exmouth market, a semi-pedestrianised street of bars and restaurants that lies somewhere between Angel and Holborn. Cafe Kick, like the rest of the street, has a European feel. The walls are covered with memoribilia, the bar is crammed with a million different bottles and the foosball tables add a unique touch (although at £2 a pop the prices are definitely more London than European). The cocktails are great. A really fun bar to spend the evening in. And if you're even vaguely sa competitive as me you'll be glued to the foosball table all night.

Review of Bullet Bar
19 May 07, 23:52
Average bar
Bullet is a distinctly average bar that tries to be cool, but in my opinion fails. I've only been once, so I can't speak for the music in general, but the night I was there the DJ was playing very boring RnB. The clientele are a bit tacky and the decor pretty much matches the clientele. There's nothing wrong with Bullet as such, it's just not my kind of place.

Review of All Bar One
18 May 07, 17:39
Nice enough bar
All Bar One is a large chain of wine bars that sell food. I've never really got it: they all seem quite boring to me. Don't get me wrong, there's nothing wrong with them, just nothing very interesting.

Review of Cargo
11 May 07, 11:55
Ultra cool club
Cargo is an uber cool club right in the middle of trendy Shoreditch. Cargo attracts many big names in dance music, and so is incredibly popular. It's slightly off-puttingly trendy , there are only so many mullets I can see in one night. However, it is definitely a cool place to go. Entry is always costly, as you'd expect.

Review of The Long Acre
08 May 07, 11:28
Terrible service in an average bar
A few friends and I popped into the Long Acre for lunch, and were shocked at how awful the service was. We waited 15 minutes before reminding the waiter that we wanted to order food, and when our lunch finally arrived one dish was cold. The rest were distinctly average. When we came to pay, we were given a bill with extra drinks on it that we had not ordered. The barman changed the bill to the correct one, and we then waited 10 minutes while he figured out how to use the credit card machine ("new technology," he claimed). When he finally worked out how to do it, he gave back the credit card with a receipt, and yup you guessed it, it was wrong again. He refunded us the difference after another 10 minute wait. When we were finally leaving we spoke to the manager, politely saying that we wanted another receipt. He told us not to pick an argument, began to shout and rounded it off with "get out!". So my advice is to avoid the Long Acre at all costs.

Review of Barfly @ The Monarch
07 May 07, 19:10
Gig venue
Barfly is very famous as an alternative live music venue. Upstairs has seen thousands of up and coming bands play, and a fair few that have made it too. Regular club nights are popular and always fun.

Review of The Bedroom Bar
05 May 07, 21:06
Great dance club
Bedroom is a cool club in Shoreditch. There is a main bar and dancing area, and also a big chill out room that has, yup you guessed it, lots of beds in it. I went to Bedroom recently for a tech-house night, and had a fantastic time. Also, it only cost £3 to get in which is a lot cheaper than other clubs.

Review of Pitcher and Piano
04 May 07, 11:49
Chain bar
Angel's Pitcher and Piano is a nicely done out bar that's good for a quiet drink during the week, and gets very busy at the weekend. Personally I find it an average place to go on a Friday/Saturday night, and drinks are pretty expensive.
