Review of Earth Cafe

Earth Cafe 5*

Just under a buddhist centre tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the high street is a lovely, serene cafe. Their food is veggie and vegan friendly. The shots of wheatgrass are worth a try for those who are health consious. They have daily specials and little bars of Green & Blacks chocolate to tempt you at the till! If you hunt in the back of the cafe there is a small nook called the'Poetry Corner' where you can write some sonnets or pick up a book to read while to wait. A must go place for veggie's or vegans

Review of Hanaan

no go area 1*

I went to this restaurant with my boyfriend and his Father. I wanted to go somewhere nice where and respectable where I could get to know my boyfriends family and make a good impression. The waiter who took our drinks orders and stood quite impossingly at the end of our table. After her left our food took over an hour to arrive and it was nothing in write home about. The waiters had an arguement in their own language at our table and hit each other and made us all feel very uncomfortable. I've never eaten a curry so fast in all my life! We left quickly and I won't be repeating that experience any time soon.

Review of Sangam

currys alright 3*

Sangam sits on the start of the curry mile. Nothing much to write home about in the restaurant side of things, yet funnily enough they do do quite a good veggie kebab in the takeaway section and they have a late license for alcohol. Brilliant!

Review of Dimitri's

Squid in a bowl?!?!?! 4*

I love Demetri's mixed up menu. It isn't for someone who likes only what they know. I would recommend sharing the fish platter with 4 people. They have such seafood wonders as white bait, scallops and the afore mentioned baby squid in a bowl of tomato salsa sauce! Great food, great drinks!

Review of Battered Cod

Chippy Tea 3*

The Battered Cod in Withington is a pure chippy delight. Most chip shop are a bit greasy, a bit podgy around the middle... but Battered Cod have a range of'healthier' options such as breaded and fillets with no coating. They also cook all their chips fresh which means that they have to use less oil so they don't stick around in the heater for ages. Lovely for a quicky on the way home!

Review of Fudge Kitchen

Fudging Great 3*

The Fudge Kitchen on High St is one of my favourite sweet shops and every time I travel up to Edinburgh I make sure to make a visit there especially. I adore the real cherry fudge and you can't go wrong with a bit of vanilla fudge. Also a wonderful present to take back home as a visiting gift.

Review of Forest Cafe

Hippy Heaven 5*

Forest Cafe is a non-profit cafebar/art gallery/performance space. They have a free community library with a host of books and independant zines which they have subsribed to. They encourage people to take books and to also exchange, or leave one of their own. They also have a range of FREE workshops which are open to any member of the public. They have a FREE film night. Are you seeing a pattern here?! Most of the things on offer and available here are FREE! It is a moral and ethically ethos that they hope will expand to people and help them to share and prosper. A wonderful niche cafe and it is a shame there aren't more of them.

Review of Chocolate Soup

Choco-go-go 4*

Chocolate Soup cafe sits on the Hunters Square slightly off the Royal Mile in the Old Town. It has a great selection of hot beverages. I adore the hot chocolate from here. It's light and frothy and almost makes you fall into a sleepy coma!

Review of Always Sunday

lovely jubbly 4*

Always Sunday is a relaxing little cafe bar on the Royal Mile next to St Giles Catherdral. They have a great selection of Fairtrade teas and smoothies for those of us who are a bit health conscious. I adore their homemade cakes, especially the carrot cake! Definately worth a visit to while away some time reading a book or people watching.

Review of American Apparel

American Apparel 4*

American Graffiti sits on Hilton Street. It is a delightful dressing up box for a grown up. Full of bright, colourful, glamourous and gregarious fabrics. A great place to come to for a fancy dress outfit or if you're feeling a bit fruity. I love the anchor earrings and the feather boas in every colour imaginable!
