Review of Cammasan Chinese Fusion Restaurants

Lovely food 4*

This restaurant is a small two tier one near the river in Kingston. It has the same kind of canteen layout as Wagamama's - rectangular wooden tables at which up to ten people can opposite each other - but without the feeling of being rushed in and out on a conveyor belt. The people serving you are really sweet and friendly. The plates are funky square ones, on which your food is often divided out, like the Indian version of a Thali. All in all, a delicious Asian-fusion option and good to go to with a large group of friends.

Review of Ha Ha Bar

Nice Location 3*

OK we all know what to expect with Haha, it being a chain and all, but the location of this particular one, right on the Thames in Kingston makes it a cool venue. Sofas, space and river views. The food is really nice too, with choices for all palates and a few veggie options.

Review of La Fiesta

Friendly and Popular 4*

This is one of about 10 cafes on Castle Street - I think they are all owned by two separate families! New ones open all the time, I reckon they'll end up taking over all the shops :) But this is a great one, selling wraps and sandwiches, the falafel is good and they sell all sorts of usual meditarrean type mixes. They are very friendly and efficient and the testament to their food is obvious from the permanent lunch time queue snaking out of the door.

Review of Clocks Fine Quality Sandwiches

delicious 4*

I really like the random name of this sandwich bar. It is tiny, little more than a booth, decorated old-fashioned style with lots of clocks (surprisingly enough) on the walls. Since the pedestrianisation of Castle Street they now have a few tables and chairs outside now in the street, which is lined with a number of other cafes doing the same - it gives a really nice feel. Their sandwiches are generously filled and abosultely delicious - especially the turkey, stuffing and cranberry one.

Review of Crispy Duck

Good Chinese food 3*

Better than Wong Kei's for service as it is smaller and the people more relaxed. They do a great dish of Bean Curd with Aubergine in Black Bean Sauce. mmmm However, next time I go I will be inspecting their menu for Shark Fin Soup as this MUST be taken off ALL Chinese menus before these animals are completely destroyed.

Cheap and not Cheerful 2*

I have given this two stars though I've been to this restaurant the most out of all the Chinese ones in Soho. Because of, you got it, the service which some people I am aware would be appalled at. They bark at you and practically throw your food at you, they even got T-Shirts printed to endorse their style of service, saying 'Upstairs' on one side and ' Downstairs' on the other. (I think you can purchase said shirts.) They know they're onto a winner and probably laugh at us, coming there to be abused...and with all those floors they must be raking it in!!! Good sweet and sour chicken though and my friends used to swear by the barbequed pork. However, next time I go I will be inspecting their menu for Shark Fin Soup as this MUST be taken off ALL Chinese menus before these animals are completely destroyed.

Review of Tinseltown

That's Hollywood, Kid! 4*

Hilarious place, really surreally kitsch. Framed prints of film stars line the walls and you eat your food in booths. It is a pretty dingy venue, you sit either in the dark or under a really concentrated bright spotlight. Contrary to some of the above reviews I have never seen it lively but we kept going back there when living in the area just for the draw of being able to order a meal at stupid o'clock. And, yes the milkshakes are a winner, who wouldn't want a mars bar flavoured drink? The people are horrendously moody but that adds to the experience. Go there!!

Posh Nosh on the River! Great for a Date... 3*

This is a lovely restaurant, especially in the Summer, with outdoor tables right on the River in Kingston. Here is somewhere to go to treat yourself - or a date! - to a good bottle of wine and typical French cuisine.

Review of Tate Modern

09 Apr 08, 20:56

An impressive structure 5*

I have been to the Tate Modern about ten times and still have not seen it in its entirety. It is incredibly vast, well laid out and home to the best of modern works. The installations in the Turbine Hall on the ground floor are my favourite - they get more and more adventurous, I particularly enjoyed the re-creation of the Sun and the atmosphere it projected (everyone lying down in quiet appreciation as if it were the real thing come down to visit us). The earthquake crack was very well done too, I thought it was funny that people were falling down it and getting upset - it is indicative of people's lack of common sense. I hope it doesn't prevent them from further building of installations you can get close to. The stylish chutes, too, were visually interesting interactive artworks. More of those, please. Although there is so much more to sample, video, audio and digital pieces, if you only see the Turbine Hall and whatever current delight resides, you've won. (It is free entry after all.)

Review of Gabys Deli

09 Apr 08, 20:18

Amaaaazing! 4*

Gaby's is wonderful, its my place of choice to get take away lunch. My favourite dishes are each only 3.50 and fill you up a treat...the falafel in pitta is delicious and the '5 salads' are pretty healthy, a genius invention whereby you choose a large spoonful of 5 different foods like lentils, green salad, aubergines, spinach and chick peas...there are so many to choose from. They occasionally give you an extra falafel ball in your packet. And they are always smiling...can't big them up enough.
