Review of The Comedy Store

One of the greatest... 4*

This is a renowned comedy venue for big names in the business. Portraits of famous faces line the walls by the bar. After a long gap I visited again recently and was not disappointed, all the comics were good which is a hard thing to achieve with in any line-up. It is a huge place, with benches to the side (where we sat), and chairs at round tables on the main floor. The drinks are reasonably priced, you can get lager by the jug which is really handy for grabbing rounds in the breaks.

Review of All Bar One

Very central and bustling 3*

This is a really popular and crowded branch of the chain as it's situated right on Leicester Square, but if you do manage to get a seat outside in the summer, it's a nice place to hang out and soak up the atmosphere. The food is good, as at most All Bar Ones, and the tapas are a decent size. Go as early as you can to get a seat, either inside or out!

Review of Haagen Dazs

Good social venue 3*

This Haagen Daz Café is right on Leicester Square so it’s a great location and a good place to meet friends if you are out at one of the cinemas for a film, and don’t want to necessarily drink beforehand. The prices are pretty steep but no more than you’d expect from the brand, they do lovely hot chocolate and milkshake blends. The venue is spacious with views of the square, it’s a nice place to hang out. You can get take-outs too, the queues for this can be long in the summer.

Review of Waxys Little Sister

Characterful little place 4*

This is a really great, tiny pub tucked away on a corner. The staff are friendly and it has a good atmosphere. My favourite feature is the small drinks pulley lift that is used to transport upstairs orders of more than two drinks, or stout pints that take longer to pull. You go downstairs to order and pay, then return upstairs and wait for the lift to deliver your drinks! Fun factor 10. Being quite small you feel it when it is busy so my advice is to head there as early in the afternoon as possible (or straight after work) to get a seat on one of the couches upstairs.

Review of Waxy O'Connor's

Treemendous 4*

Yes! The tree in the middle of the pub, scaling each floor and spreading its branches akimbo is quite something to see. The layout of the pub is sprawling and unique, there is nowhere quite like it in Soho. I don't mind the tenuous Irish connotations. They serve great Guinness, and that's enough for me...what do you want, Irish dancers kicking away like in the Irish pubs in the US? They wouldn't have the room to do it around the tree in this place anyway :)

Review of The Comedy Pub

Nice pub! 3*

This is a fine pub - and I am not a Sporrts fan, so offer you a non-sports related review. The food is good, offering many dishes as 2-for-1 so it is a good place to have lunch with a mate. When you go upstairs you have the offer of watching whatever match they are showing on the many screens, or you can have a game of pool of darts. The choice is yours! I like the old design of the building, with openable windows and classic booths.

Review of Crispy Duck

Good Chinese food 3*

Better than Wong Kei's for service as it is smaller and the people more relaxed. They do a great dish of Bean Curd with Aubergine in Black Bean Sauce. mmmm However, next time I go I will be inspecting their menu for Shark Fin Soup as this MUST be taken off ALL Chinese menus before these animals are completely destroyed.

Review of Wong Kei

Cheap and not Cheerful 2*

I have given this two stars though I've been to this restaurant the most out of all the Chinese ones in Soho. Because of, you got it, the service which some people I am aware would be appalled at. They bark at you and practically throw your food at you, they even got T-Shirts printed to endorse their style of service, saying 'Upstairs' on one side and ' Downstairs' on the other. (I think you can purchase said shirts.) They know they're onto a winner and probably laugh at us, coming there to be abused...and with all those floors they must be raking it in!!! Good sweet and sour chicken though and my friends used to swear by the barbequed pork. However, next time I go I will be inspecting their menu for Shark Fin Soup as this MUST be taken off ALL Chinese menus before these animals are completely destroyed.
