Review of Bar Pravda
14 Apr 08, 19:44
Pravda, Birmingham
A nice, little bar attached to the Hyatt Hotel on Broad Street in Birmingham used mainly by hotel residents but also open to the public. It's a great place to meet people before going to the ICC or Symphony Hall. Due to this it can get very busy before performances and can empty quickly. It's quite small but the association with the Hotel guarantees great food although expect Hotel prices on drinks.

Bank Restaurant
Great food and although quite expensive this is certainly the place to go to impress. Tables need to be booked in advance but the food is well worth it. Located just off Brindley Place in the heart of the city this is one the best restaurants in town.

Review of The Panama Bar
12 Apr 08, 16:06
Panama Bar
Great wine bar just on the way from Broad Street to the Mailbox which is next to the canalside. Good service and nicely furnished giving it a modern wine bar feel. There is usually a DJ at weekends and is a popular place away from Broad Street if you fancy a few drinks and a dance too.

Review of River Island Clothing Co
12 Apr 08, 15:46
River Island, Bullring
Whether you want a classic look or something a little new or different then the River Island store has everything you could want. Great for Suits, shirts and trousers as well as ties for work or functions. Plenty of accessories too as well as the latest fashions on the High Street.

Review of Freespirit
12 Apr 08, 15:41
Freespirit, Corporation Street
A great selection of beach, surf and skate wear for kids and adults with top brand names. A really cool two level store with waterfall and the odd bargains in the sales too. Expect names like Billabong, Plain Lazy. And a reasonable selection of shoes and beach footwear too.

Review of Cult Clothing
12 Apr 08, 15:38
Cult Clothing Birmingham
A great selection of fashionable clothes for men and women. The upstairs area has a lot of brand named T-Shirts and Jeans for Men and is definetly a good place to find some trendy new clothes. The prices are somewhat high but it's somewhere a little less mainstream than your usual chain stores.

Review of Revolution Bar
12 Apr 08, 14:12
Revolution, Broad Steet
A very stylish venue at the top end of Broad Street with every possible Vodka you could imagine and a few high strength ones too if you are brave ! The music is usually very dance/r'n'b orientated in the evenings and it does fill up quite quickly at the weekends. There is a dance floor at the back and upstairs there is a separate bar with comfy sofas and seats which can also be hired out with a projector screen there too.

Review of St Pauls Cars

St.Paul's Taxis Birmingham
This is usually my first choice for booking a taxi in Birmingham. They are extremely reliable, arrive in minutes or on time if you have booked in advance and are a reasonable price. I have never had a problem with them and cannot recommend them highly enough.

Review of Bar Risa
12 Apr 08, 11:43
Risa, Broad Street
This is a good place of you have a group of people with varying tastes in music and you can't agree on a place to go. It's got several bars and different styles of music so there's enough to please everyone but it does get very busy towards the end of the night. You also get the use of the main dance floor area after the Jongleurs comedy club closes and there's a chill out area too so it's a good settlement to a place to please everyone.

Review of The Glee Club
12 Apr 08, 11:39
Glee Club, Birmingham
The Glee Club in the Arcadian is quite a small, intimate venue but with the calibre of Nationally known comedians it's a jewel in the crown for Birmingham. You will probably have to book early to avoid disappointment and get a good seat though. The bar area is quite small when it comes to getting your drinks during a break in performance but if you want to see some of today's best comedians locally then this is a place you need to come.

Review of Jongleurs
12 Apr 08, 11:37
Jongleurs, Broad Street
Part of the Risa building this is a great place to see rising comedy stars and big name comedians doing their UK Tours. You can have a meal and order drinks between performances and it's a good sized room. You also get free entry to the club afterwards when the comedy finishes so this is a great way to finish off the night and get some good laughs, a nice meal and a chance to dance.

Review of Grosvenor Casino
12 Apr 08, 11:34
Grosvenor Casino, Broad Street
The great thing is that you can be a member within minutes and if there's a group of you this is somewhere different to spend an hour or two just watching the activities or trying your luck at blackjack, poker or a shot at roulette. It's a fair sized casino and quite roomy with a pletharo of activities. It's not somewhere you would want to spend all day but is a good break from the usual bars and clubs on Broad Street.

Review of Thai Edge
12 Apr 08, 11:07
Thai Edge, Brindley Place
A really nice restaurant for Thai food just off Broad Street in Brindley Place. The staff wear traditional clothing and are very pleasant. The food is delicious and the surrondings are really warm and inviting. If you have never tried Thai food before or if you want something a little different this is somewhere you should visit.

Review of Richer Sounds
12 Apr 08, 11:02
Richer Sounds, Birmingham
A great place for cheap, good quality branded named electricals. If you are a Hi-fi fanatic or buying a new piece of kit this should be on your list of places to visit. There's some great offers in their catalogue but because of the discounts sometimes the item you want has sold out or is on order. That aside this still has to be worth checking out.

Review of Nostalgia & Comics
12 Apr 08, 11:00
Nostalgia & Comics, Birmingham
One of the best places to go for comic book fans or those into cult TV or sci-fi memorabilia. This has been a well known place for American imports for a couple of decades and is still a good place to go for that extra gift or something a little different from the norm.

Review of Old Orleans
12 Apr 08, 10:38
Old Orleans, Broad Street
Great food and a friendly atmosphere in this Broad Street location. It's something a little different and with a good sized seating area outdoors is nice for catching a few rays in the summer. Very close to a lots of City Centre hotels and bars so if you are a visitor to the city then it makes a good choice to visit here.

Review of The Brasshouse
12 Apr 08, 10:36
Brasshouse Birmingham
Just on the corner of Broad Street and somewhere in between traditional pub and modern bar this a nice place to go for a quiet drink. The restaurant area also has a Carvary on Sundays which is always difficult to find in other city centre locations.

Review of The Jamhouse
12 Apr 08, 10:31
Jamhouse Birmingham
If you fancy a change to the usual haunts in Birmingham or want to see some good live music then you can't go wrong with the Jam House. Located in St Paul's Square in the Jewellery Quarter this is a great place to go with friends. There's a downstairs bar plus a main level with ample dancefloor and separate bar and a higher level which can be used for private functions. There's also a DJ playing some great dance and pop tunes so a guaranteed good night out is to be had.

Review of The Actress & Bishop
12 Apr 08, 10:29
Actress and Bishop, Birmingham
A great pub with a lively atmosphere, good, well priced drinks in an emerging part of Birmingham for entertainment. Just off St. Paul's Square in the Jewellery Quarter this a good place for lunch time drink or in the evening for live music, entertainment and quizzes.

Review of Spar
12 Apr 08, 10:25
Spar, Brindley Place
Quite a good selection of groceries and drinks and especially sandwiches and baguettes for lunctimes. There is also a nice salad bar and hot food selection of chicken and savoury items so if you don't fancy eating out at lunchtime or want to pop out for a minute before returning to the office this is a good alternative to other sandwich shops or delis.

Review of Sainsbury's Local
12 Apr 08, 10:21
Sainsburys, Broad Street
A very useful location for Sainsburys and although not as big as the Tesco store at the end of Broad Street this has been recently re-done and has a good selection. The staff are friendly and there is usually quite a few to combat any queues. Great for stocking up if you live or work near Broad Street.

Review of Sainsbury's
12 Apr 08, 10:18
Sainsburys, Martineau Place
A medium sized store not far from the main shopping areas of The Bullring and Corporation Street and New Street. They don't have the largest selection compared to the bigger stores but do have a fair range of choice for city dwellers. It's also close to many bus stops on Corporation Street so quite useful as a stop off point for supplies or a dinner on the way home from town.

Review of Debenhams
12 Apr 08, 09:47
Debenhams Bullring
A large split level department store in the Bullring. More reasonable prices then Selfridges but probably not quite as classy. If you are after some good homeware or are kitting out your first home then this is a good starting point.

Review of Animal
12 Apr 08, 09:45
Animal Birmingham
Located in the walkway between the Bullring and New Street Station there's a fair choice of clothing under the Animal brand. There's quite a few items on sale and this is somewhere people sometimes miss when taking a trip to the Bullring so if you are a fan of Animal Clothing then don't forget to pass by on your next visit.

Review of Gap
12 Apr 08, 09:41
Gap, Martineau Place
A two level store with a good sized Kids section too. Your typical Gap products but the staff are very friendly and helpful, there's some good clothing here and probably the best soundtrack for shopping around with some great tunes in store!

Review of Schuh
12 Apr 08, 09:35
Schuh, Bullring
A fair sized store in Birmingham's Bullring with a good selection of shoes. Not the cheapest place and there doesn't seem to be many offers but it's reasonably busy and well staffed so if you have your eye on a particular pair of shoes then you should have no trouble finding the size you want and be served quickly.

Review of Sunglass Hut International
12 Apr 08, 09:31
Sunglass Hut, Bullring
Quite a small store but a fair range of Sunglasses. The price tag is quite high so if you are not after named goods then you could probably find better prices elsewhere but the staff are friendly and helpful so if you are after a nice pair of sunglasses for your summer holiday then do stop by.

Review of Billabong
12 Apr 08, 09:29
Billabong, Bullring
Quite a small store but for fans of the brand this is worth a visit. There are occasional end of line sales but expect the usual price tags associated with the brand. There is a smaller kids section as well but generally could do with a larger location.

Review of The Entertainer
12 Apr 08, 09:27
The Entertainer, Bullring
With the loss of Toys R Us in Birmingham this is a slightly inferior alternative with not as much stock but if you are looking for a popular item or just want somewhere to pick up a present or gift for a child then this is a good starting point if you are in the City Centre.

Review of HMV
12 Apr 08, 09:24
HMV Pallasades
One of the biggest and most well know record stores in Birmingham split onto several levels with everything from games, albums, books and classical. One of the biggest selections of items and a good ordering service if something you want is not in stock. There's usually marked down stock or a Sale going on so you should be able to get your collection up to scratch in no time.

Review of Selfridges
12 Apr 08, 09:22
Selfridges Birmingham
A fantastic shopping experience with an amazing food hall on the lower level with foods from around the world. The clothing is pricey but there a lot of top names. There is a great electrical section for all the gadget freaks too. There's a sushi bar, Krispy Kremes donuts and just about everything else you could imagine for fashion, jewellery and perfumes. No wonder people come from miles around to come here.

Review of Borders Books
12 Apr 08, 09:18
Borders Birmingham
A welcome addition to Birmingham's Bullring and for anyone who has visited the American branches, expect a very similar relaxed feel. There is a Starbucks coffee shop attached too. Although prices are a little higher on books than elsewhere you will find plenty of choice and a wide range of international titles especially in the magazine and music sections.

Review of Currys Digital
12 Apr 08, 09:16
Currys Digital
One of the biggest and best Currys Electrical Stores right in the heart of Birmingham on two levels of The Bullring. Possibly every electrical gadget you could want and although customer service isn't always the best, and there is a reliance on selling after sales cover as extra, if you know what you want and it's at a price you are happy to pay then most things are in stock for you to take home straight away.

Review of Costa
12 Apr 08, 07:42
Costa Brindley Place
Right in the middle of Brindley Place and with views back to the fountains this is a great place to meet up for a lunch or work coffee and maybe a sandwich. The prices are as you would expect but the location is definetly in favour for this Costa, especially in the summer months.

Review of Starbucks

Review of Odeon Cinema
12 Apr 08, 07:32
Odean Birmingham
Quite an old cinema that doesn't really stand up to today's standards. The screens are smaller than some of the multiplexes and not all seating is great. Also a big hang out for kids and consequent noise and disturbance. Not my first choice at all.

Review of UGC Broad Street

Cineworld Broad Street
Now part of the cineworld group, this 9 screen modern cinema is one of my favourites to catch the latest flicks. Good seating, big screens and great sound. The prices can vary through the week but there are discounts for weekends and early showings which can beat that Friday night rush.

Review of Walkabout Inn
12 Apr 08, 07:27
Walkabout Birmingham
Although in keeping with the Austalian theme of this chain bar, this particuar location does seem to have it's own character and with sofas, a balcony over looking the canal and a lower level dance floor and bar this is a good place to find yourself at the weekends. Also a great location to watch sporting events on the big screen and with live cover bands at the weekend playing great indie/pop songs you are certain of a good time.

Review of All Bar One
12 Apr 08, 07:16
All Bar One Brindley Place
A great pre-club bar or meeting place near to Broad Street. It tends to be busy with city types during the day and early evening but becomes less so as the night goes on. Great for social gatherings or even just for a meal with friends with a good selection of food and imported beers and wines.

Review of National Sea Life Centre

Sea Life Centre Birmingham
Billed as the biggest one in the UK this is well worth a visit if you are close to Birmingham. With different themes and ever changing sea life there's always something new to see. Flapper Birmingham
Many a local band have played here and gone on to great things. It's a good student pub and prelude to a night at Snobs, but has quiz nights and being by the canalside is great for a drink outside. There's a separate live venue downstairs, usually a DJ upstairs and also a jukebox with all the indie classics.

Overlooking the main interchange of the Birmingham Canal in the city this is a great pre-drinks pub for anyone visiting the NIA opposite or the ICC. Just a short walk from the Sea life centre and Brindley Place it's also good for families in the daytime. Review of Tesco Metro
11 Apr 08, 20:31
Tesco New Street
Conviently located on New Street and by the side entrance of the train station this should be a great store. Unfortunatly the due level means sometimes it is very difficult to find items. Also after 6pm it gets very busy with people shopping after work which seems to take the staff by surprise. Although it is open till late much of the stock is gone by this time, especially fruit and salad is of very limited choice at the best of times. There is also a habit of giving you far too many bags for the items you have and the queues can get quite long.

Review of The Living Room
11 Apr 08, 20:01
Living Room Broad Street
Sometimes you can have a great night in here with live music from singers and pianists and a huge selection of cocktails. Othertimes, especially if you are in a group, it can be difficult to get entry (especially for males) and there is a strict door policy on trainers or t-shirts even with smart jackets. Early evenings are best and the bar staff are friendly and great to watch in action.

A great place for a bit of fun, cheesy tunes, and a good laugh. Reasonable prices on drinks, some great 80s music and a crowd that doesn't take itself too seriously. ONeills
Always a favourite themed bar. O'Neills is what you would expect from any of these bars in the country. A smaller venue than the Broad Street one, but still worth the craic !

Review of Legs 11

Legs 11
One of the first strip clubs in Birmingham, this is still a favourite for stag nights but with the likes of the newer Spearmint Rhino clubs this isn't always the first choice of location especially if Broad Street is your main choice for a night out.

Review of Barracuda

Barracuda
Just off New Street and near the Arcadian this is a good place for a weekend evening. It's got two bars with a large dancefloor area and has a good atmosphere. The music ranges from pop to r'n'b but seems to do well and attract a large crowd.

Review of All Bar One

All Bar One
Much like the All Bar One in Brindley Price this has a good selection of food and different beers and ales. It is generally frequented by business style types in the daytime and evening due to it's location.

Review of Red

Red
Quite a small bar hidden just off New Street. Like the name it does have a lot of Red Decor and quite pricey drinks but has nice food and is worth a look.

Review of Lloyds Bar

LLoyds Bar
A good bar to start your evening or to meet up but does start to get queues quite quickly, especially ono Friday or Saturday nights. Fairly good prices on food with special meal deals and drinks offers too. There's also a dancefloor and two levels for when it gets too busy.

Review of Arca Bar

Arca Bar
Like many of the bars in the Arcadian this place gets very very busy at the weekends but in the daytime or early evening it's a great place to get a bite to eat or meet up with friends in a trendy bar in the city.

Review of Club Hidden

Hidden
Just next to the Arcadian Centre this is a good place to go if you are into your dance music and want to be seen in Brum. Not the best place if you want to stay together as a group as it gets busy and is easy to get lost, but for die hard clubbers it is one of those places to go to.

Review of The Medicine Bar

Medicine Bar
Quite a cool, trendy place in the old custard factory in Digbeth. As well as the bar area there is a room for live music and generally has a good atmosphere away from the usual Broad Street scene.

Review of Nightingale Club

Good for TV Talent Contestants
Just to add to the previous review that you do tend to get some of the new talent from TV Shows such as Pop Idol and X-Factor appearing as well as other guest apperances at the weekend

Review of Bar Academy
11 Apr 08, 16:25
Bar Academy
Next to the main Carling Academy this is a much smaller venue to it's neighbour but has some good local bands and emerging national talent. If you want to see some good live music in the city then it's worth looking at.

Review of Indi Bar & Lounge
11 Apr 08, 16:22
Indi Bar
A cool and trendy bar in Birmingham's bustling Arcadian Centre. Great for summer afternoons. The drinks can be a little pricey and the place gets very noisy and busy at the weekends but a good place to be seen and hang out with friends.

Review of The Works
11 Apr 08, 16:17
Works Birmingham
A large nightclub, situated at the far end of Broad Street. A good mix of music and lots of people but it does suffer from being at the end of Broad Street where many bars are now closed so it may be a little further to get to, or may not be your first choice if you are heading elsewhere in the city.

Review of Yard Of Ale
11 Apr 08, 16:15
Yard of Ale
Just on New Street this is pub you might normally miss if you are shopping or heading to other more common places in Birmingham for a night out. It's a small pub but with friendly staff and is more of a local feel than some of the chain pubs. It seems to be the place where people will stop off rather than a place to end up but still good and a bit of a hidden gem.

Review of Oceana Nightclub
11 Apr 08, 16:12
Oceana, Birmingham
A Modern refurbishment to a club that has seen many changes over the years. Not far from New Street Station and the Arcadian, Oceana like it's counterparts across the country has rooms for everyone, from Cheesy Pop, to Upfront Dance and varying styles in between. Definetly worth a look if you are with a large group of people and can't decide on one place to go.

Review of The Birmingham Academy
11 Apr 08, 16:10
Carling Academy Birmingham
A reasonably sized venue for quite big name and up and coming acts yet to fill out stadiums. It's located fairly close to New Street, Moor Street and Snow Hill Stations. Tickets do get sold fairly quickly and the place gets packed but it's definetly somehwhere to check out to see your favourite group before they make it too big !

Review of Square Peg

Square Peg
Located at the top of Corporation Street this is a good pub for meeting friends or a drink after work but does get busier in the evenings. Also quite an older crowd but not too noisy and generally a good atmosphere.
