Review of Jingles Restaurant
10 Apr 08, 15:34
What a shame
Have been to Jingles several times and each time it seems to go down in standards... The food is OK, but thats about the best you can say ...OK. The portions are massive and they would do bettter reducing the quantity of food and speeding up the delivery.
On my last visit we were in a party of 15 and despite ordering a week in advance it still took an hour to get the starter, and no one wanted to take drink orders or make sure we were happy. I would have had a desert but as it took nearly 3 hours from entering the restaurent to finishing the main course my enthusiams had diminished.
IT could be so good but they need to sort out the basics... :(

Review of Abbey Lawn Hotel
10 Apr 08, 15:23
A deserted oasis
The Abbey Lawn hotel is a 3 star coaching hotel with a gym, 2 pools, sauna and steam room. you can join the health club as a non resident and have access from 6am, til 9pm.
Its great all the CV machines have individual TV screens and you can watch freeview TV programs to make the hours stomping off the pounds go by a bit easier.
There has been a recnt refit and the number of machines has been greatly increased. The club has a fitness instructor on hand and the thing i like best is that it a non competitive atmoshere. The age range of the users goes right up to the 70+ and there are very few muscle heads pumping several tonnnes of iron to put you off. Changing rtooms are small and more than 3 in the male changing makes it quite cramped but the main beauty of this place is that for most of the day it is deserted !!
The outdoor pool is unheated so only for the brave, but in the summer its a real sun trap and a great place to chill out.

Review of Angels Tea Rooms
09 Apr 08, 18:42
confusingly good
Now lets not get this wrong...this place is great...seriously. The food is all organic, the menu is varied and of the highest quality. The staff are charming and welcoming and you will not have a bad dining experience here at all
The confusion is more about what the Angels thinks it is. is it a charming tea rooms or is it a serious restaurent? if they could answer that they could go someway to sorting out their pricing.
I dont mind paying for quaility food but some of the prices here are seriously over the top for a Tea room. £8 for a jacket potato is a bit steep even if you get salad and garnish along with your topping of choice.
I have no heistaion in recomending this Angels and i fyou visit you will love the food and the Angel rich atmosphere but remember wher eyou are when you are looking at the prices.

Review of Linny Inn

A hidden Gem
I was really in 2 minds about reviewing this place....cos if too many people know about it the wait to get a sunday lunch booking will get even longer. There is no question that this place is also a passion for its owners and every time I go I get a genuinley warm perosnal welcome. The decor is just what you want from a village pub and the food is unpretentious and simply delicious. There are 2 restaurent options with differing menus. The bar menue and the Hayloft restaurent. either will not disappoint, The Sunday roast is not a stodgy pile a of food as it is in so many pubs but a cooked to order selection of seasonal vegitables and local meat that is just wonderful... please go and enjoy but dont tell too many people.

Review of The Ness house Hotel
09 Apr 08, 17:54
What a shame
The Ness is situated at the mouth of the river Teign and has one of the most stunning views you could want while you eat, and in fact I have been there several times and generally enjoyed my visits, but the last time I stopped by was late sunday lunchtime and all we wanted was a couple of drinks, but we were flattly told they would not serve us. there was room in the bar and we had a table but were quite rudely told that there was no room. I am affraid it totally let the place down and I am dissapointed that I have recomended it to others in the past,.

Review of Electrowise
09 Apr 08, 17:37
Data Saviours
Recently I droped a screw into my compuetr and as luck would have it it destroyed my hard disk which was crammed with vital mission critical data. (aint it always teh way) Electrowise were able to recover all the data and copy it onto a new hard disk and at what I consider a very reasonable price. It was not an advertised service so I am guessing they went the extra mile for me. A reasonable selection of hardware available from stock when you need computer bits. thanks guys

Review of Willow Tree

Top Carvery
I agree with Rob..you cant beat this one for value for money. There are more and more carvery's around Torbay and they vary greatly in quality and value for money but for £3.50 you have to ask why they bother offering an alternative menu. In fact the only down side with the whole place is that so many peole know about it and there can sometimes be a queue! but when 2 people can get a great dinner and drinks for under a tenner you have to agree its worth the wait!

Review of Rumble Tums
08 Apr 08, 16:55
The unsung knights of the layby
The Burger van is something that should be shouted about! why are there no good burger van guides? after all there is never a shortage of white van men (and women) who are looking for a cheeky tea and a burger or 2. Rumble tums provides all the usual fare for the man on the go with a nice selection of sauces to drip on your freshly laundered clothes . I would prefer tea in a polystyrene rather than plastic cup as it stays warm longer, but the proprietor is friendly and cooks food to order so you dont get a sweaty old burger thats been soaking up fat all day.
sometimes he seems to run out of food very early in the day but on the whole a recomendable pit stop and there is even a food hygene certificate on show!!

Review of The Drum
08 Apr 08, 15:18
Limited choice for a veggie
This place is situated a mile from the beach in Torquay but you could be in the middle of sherwood forrest. The Drum is situated on the edge of Cockington country park which means you can walk up a good appetite. The thatched building is charming and welcoming and the open fires are fantastic in winter. There is huge amounts of outside eating and drinking area, but if you are a vegitarian then your choices are limted. The food is genrally good but the Sunday roast can get a bit tired towards the end of the day!

These have to be the best chips in the UK!! Georgie and the team are always friendly and the food is always excellent. The fish is fresh from Brixham and you really cant stop raving about the chips. You will not be disappointed
