Review of Parveen Tandoori Restaurant

Good but not great
I visited the Parveen Tandoori, mainly based on these reviews and recommendations. My thinking was that there was a great curry house in Angel that I haven't been to yet, so the only thing to do would be to go round and check it out. Which is exactly what I did.
Getting sat outside when it was getting cold wasn't the perfect start, but the free poppadoms soon quietened my moaning. They were crisp, nicely cooked and tasted good, and the accompanying sauces were tasty too.
After picking my choice of curry (chicken Sag), rice (pilau) and beer (Tiger), we waited at our now rather chilly outside table. When the food eventually came, it was good, not great, but still good. It tasted fine - the curry was flavourful but the rice was slightly dry. However the portions was slightly smaller than I expected, which didn't quite satisfy my hunger, so maybe it would be worth getting side dishes.
The Parveen is a good Indian, but it's definitely not the best. There are a couple of curry houses nearby which are just as good and if not better.

Review of Gulsham Tandoori

Go somewhere else
I got told this place was quite nice, how wrong they were. If you like your food served by waiters who snatch menus from you, serve food with dirty hands or are just generally unpleasant, then this is the place for you. It's almost like they don't want your return custom.
To be fair to them, the food is pretty cheap and it's generally nice, in a tastes-like-a-microwaved-curry kind of way, which is why it's escaped from a one star review, but it was very close run thing. If you want a nice curry, there's plenty of places near by which are miles better.

Review of The Angel Curry Centre

Currytastic! Highly Recommended!
I like curry. You only have to look at me to know that. I also like trying out curry houses, and the Angel Curry Center is the one I keep going back to again and again. Let's not pretend the food is nouveau Indian cuisine or anything. It's not. It is, however, a great British curry, which would easily beat anything on Brick Lane. The staff are frighteningly nice - usually they give me free poppadoms with my takeaway, sometimes free poppadoms and drinks while I wait for my takeaway. The price is very reasonable too, usually can get 2 meals with sides for about £16, which is an absolute bargain once you realise how good the food actually is. If you're eating in the restaurant, then it's a good idea to go and bring some alcohol drinks along as they don't sell them, but there's plenty of off-licenses on Chapel Market, so that's not a worry. If you want a curry tonight, do yourself a favour. Go here.
