Review of Upper Norwood Public Library
04 Aug 07, 19:33
Endangered species
One of the few "independent" public libraries left in London, the Upper Norwood library has been threatened with closure in recent years, because of a row over funding. Croydon and Lambeth councils both jointly provide money to keep it going, but they keep arguing over who should contribute more. Politics aside, this library, as it should, has a very local feel to it. Local "souvenirs" are sold here and the requisite children's singalongs happen weekly. The books are wide-ranging and good quality and relatively up-to-date and there's also a great selection of DVDs and CDs to borrow. The staff are very friendly and always willing to help you find that elusive book - what more could want from a local library?
