Review of The Cavern Club

25 Apr 08, 15:03

beatles fan 3*

The Cavern in Liverpool is of course home to The Beatles. It is situated on Matthew Street in Liverpool City Centre.

It is world famous and many visitors flock to the venue from every part of the globe. Each time I have been there are visitors from Japan, France, Spain and many more all taking as many photographs as they can!

Its dark inside and there are a lot of stairs to get inside, all spiralling downwards, as after all it is underground! There is memorabilia all over the place and you will see live music every day and night. Its a great atmosphere, especially when you hear a band playing The Beatles music, its quite surreal standing in The Cavern dancing away to Beatles tunes! Makes you feel like you are right back there with them.

The toilets arent the best and are a bit grotty so its not somewhere you will dress smartly for. Drinks are cheap. It does get very busy when certain bands perform so you may have a wait at the bar.

All in all its a great place for a few drinks and to see a bit of music history.

Review of Trader Jacks

25 Apr 08, 15:00

jacks 3*

Trader Jacks has been located in central Middlesbrough for a few years now. This bar is ideally central and always seems to get good custom. During the day the popular bar seems to be full of shoppers have a bit of lunch or workers have some food on their lunch hour. They offer good quality by offering 2-1 meals on certain dishes. The only own fall hear is that when it is really busy you might be waiting up to 40 minutes for your meal, by then you might need to leave and go back to work. On an evening and weekend Trader Jacks is quite busy, they play a good variety of music it is quite a spacious pub, however sometime you do get pushed around a little if it is to busy. They have a massive bar that faces the front and back of the bar so there is plenty of space to get served. The pub itself is quite modern looking with large LCD TV’s and a couple of booths that you can eat/drink in for privacy. Prices are quite reasonable so it’s a decent little place

Review of The Europa

25 Apr 08, 15:00

Europa! 3*

Middlesbrough is synonymously linked with one particular type of food – Parmos. Since I have left Middlesbrough I seriously do miss them. The Europa Restaurant is known in the local area for their value for money and offering the best Parmos in town. The Europa is located on Borough Road; they offer a variety of home cooked meals which are always popular. On a weekend the atmosphere in this restaurant is extremely lively, most of the people here have been out drinking all day/night and now fancy something nice to eat. In saying that that atmosphere is not a bad one it may be rowdy but it is not offensive by any means. If you are ever in Middlesbrough then you have to try this restaurant

Review of Hogshead Pub Company

25 Apr 08, 14:57

hog rost? 3*

The Hogshead is located on Corporation Road right in the centre on Middlesbrough, if you have trouble finding it look for the Centre north East building and its fairly close. The pub is normally always busy primarily due to its location, it is not a modern an chic club like a lot in Middlesbrough these days, it is a traditional pub that serves typical pub lunches. I have eaten here several times as I use to work in the vicinity, they are ideal if you are on a lunch break as most of the food arrives in about 20 minuets. They offer a good range of specials at reasonable prices. On an evening I haven’t actually went here drinking, it strikes me more of an older generation place, the décor is quite nice but again not really aimed at the younger generation, it is wooden throughout and quite a dark pub. Great place to stop and have a pint and a burger during the day

Review of The Purple Onion

25 Apr 08, 14:56

the onion 3*

The Purple Onion restaurant is located on Corporation Road. The restaurant holds about 70-80 people I imagine and has a very chilled out and relaxed vibe to it. The tables themselves are candle lit and very romantic, but this is also the ideal location for catching up with friends and just having a laugh. The food in this place is amazing, they offer a wide variety of food and have a daily specials board with some great offers. The last time I went we book in advance because we had a part of eight, we were seated straight away and drinks followed pretty rapidly, it was extremely busy as it was a Friday night and we had to wait a little while for our food but we were in not rush and were not made to feel rushed by the staff. This is a great location is you want to have a nice meal before a night round Middlesbrough

Review of The Hairy Lemon

25 Apr 08, 14:51

love the lemon 3*

The Hairy Lemon is located right in the centre of Middlesbrough, I have always noticed the bar and though it to be a bit peculiar due to its name. I started working in close proximity of the bar so I and a friend quite often went over there for our lunch. The menu was typical of a small bar offering various burgers, pasta and a few traditional dishes. The reason we went her was due to the speed of the service. The food and drinks always came relatively quick, there was normally not a great deal of people there but many of those who were out to lunch were doing so from work. The décor to be honest is a bit out dated and is very dark and dingy. Being in such a prime location this facility could offer a lot more if it was revamped. In saying that I have gone here for a few drinks on an evening and business seems to be quite steady anyway. It is reasonably priced and has a juke box so the music is selected by the people. Staff was always friendly and polite and willing to talk.

Review of Star & Garter

25 Apr 08, 14:49

the star 3*

The Star and Garter was one of my favourite little pubs when I was a t University in Middlesbrough, like a lot of other establishments is located in the heart of the university. The pub itself looks very much like a standard local pub that has the same drinkers every day. Its location means that as well as havening locals it also has a massive student base. They offer a wide range of food and very good prices. On a Sunday the offer a carvery where there is such a good selection that you can’t help leaving absolute full. I would recommend getting there early as it is very popular and sometime you might have a bit of difficulty getting a table. The carvery is very reasonably priced and I’m not sure it is aimed at students but it certainly pulls them in.

Review of The Purple Turtle

23 Apr 08, 12:13

Skanky but we love it ! 3*

This littlee den is topp to toe with what at first seem like weirdos. In actual fact this is the place where all the students come to gather after a busy day of lectures. The majority of people are rockers and goths with the occassional towny getting his D n B on down stairs in the bassment. Always open late and the atmosphere is very friendly.

Get ya piercings in and let the let Turtle bring you outta ya shell..
