Review of Laureate Restaurant

So good it has TWO menu's 4*

Popped in here on a Thursday night (to avoid trick or treaters at Halloween) around 6.30pm and by 7pm it was full and people were waiting for tables (which seemed to turned fairly quickly).

Don't be confused by the two menus' like I initially was. The larger one is full of things you would have probably heard of (the 'English menu' if you will) and the smaller things you may not have (the 'Chinese menu' - though it has English translations).

I had my starter from one and my main course from the other and both were fresh, tasty and certainly of a higher quality than other China Town restaurants.

The restaurant is a bit cramped if you get a table in the middle - indeed I saw one couple had to split up and walk around the outside of two other tables to sit down but I think they just got unlucky as my place was fine.

Well worth a visit.

Review of Mr Jerk

Would be a 'Jerk' to miss this! 4*

OK stupid puns aside I went here on a rainy Thursday afternoon and was well and truley ready to hit the streets afterwards after eating large portions (both for starter and main) of spicey and tender meat cooked only as West Indians seem able.

Needing a Jerk chicken fix I went for wings to start , and anyone who can make chicken wings taste good deserve a medal. The meat could be pulled off with your fingers and the zing from the seasoning lasted well past my first beer.

Main course of curry mutton with rice and peas was similarly cooked to perfection and if required I could have cut through the meat with a spoon. The only thing wrong with this was that it wasn't the traditional goat.

The menu is fairly tiny but missing none of the dishes you would want from such a restaurant and the prices for the amount and quality of food is good - £20 for two courses and two beers.

Service is extremely laid back and equally as friendly.

A good place for after a long days work.

Great pub with great prices 5*

This is an awesome pub which get rather full on a Thursdays for some bizarre reason.

It could be the atmosphere, could be the location but personally it's the prices :>

Good Sam's Smith beer (no Fosters rubbish ) with no rubbish in it - v nice indeed :>

Review of Wild Honey

New restaurant with a good old tastes 5*

I guess Mayfair restaurants all get tarnished with the same brush but when a place puts a cheese board at center stage then you really must be proud of the stuff you are doing rather than relying on reputation.

All dishes I had were of an excellent quality with enough flavor combinations to excite and interest - pig's head for instance sounds revolting but in reality was a terrine style block of tender meat, great stuff!

I've already mentioned the cheese board and I must say that with the desserts being rather iffy you're much better off going for a few more options from there opposed to going for sugar. (I had both but still - that's why I go to these places!!)

The drink menu is cool, one nice touch is the option to have a small carafe of wine so that you can try more than one and also, I guess save on those pennies. Also allows for more room for cocktails and champagne :>

Review of Masala Zone

Disappointing - many better options availiable in the area 2*

Now while I can't actually remember how I got here (it was after a fairly heavy drinking session) I can remember how excited I was to be going; and also how disappointed I was by what I ate.

I felt that portions were pretty small and tasted fairly average. People say that the prices are good but I can't really agree for the quality of taste on display.

You can get this food at any other Indian Restaurant in the area for a similar price and be fed better. Be adventurous and do that - stay away the the sparkling lights!!

Review of Hummus Bros

Tasty tasty veg (with meat) 4*

I always liked the idea of this place but was never sure if I'd like the reality (would chickpeas be too bland to base a meal around!?!?!) - having now been I can happily say that the reality is indeed good!

A big bowl of humus with meat in the middle is a tasty and filling meal; I've seen people complain about prices but it all seemed good to me. I was also really impressed with the pitta breads (totally unlike any pitta I have had before) and salads (fresh, crispy and delicious).

A very cool place for lunch and certainly somewhere to go when you are fancying a change from your standard lunch fair.
